When's the last time someone suggested that about a terrorist attack? I genuinely have no recollection of it ever being raised about Paris, London, Nice, Berlin etc.

Yes, they are. Do you not remember last summer, at the height of the fight in the Middle East, when ISIS were still holding a lot more territory and had the freedom still to focus intently on Europe and radicalising weak-minded idiots. Do you not remember what it was like to wake up what felt like every other morning to another attack? It feels like this is constant now, but it's not - at least, it is not in Europe. That is no comfort to those mourning today, but it is true.

I don't say there will not be another attack. Sadly, I suspect there will be more that get through the security net. But a combination of a Europe-wide intense focus on the ideologues and radicalisers and the dramatic loss of ISIS territory and fighters is damaging them and forcing their focus on survival in the Middle East. It's been listed on various reports on twitter over the last 24 hours. And used by posters trying to defend the indefensible.
Majority of these reports won't use the words Islam or Muslim.

A lot less dangerous than they were in the 70s, when the number of attacks and deaths in European cities from terrorist attacks stood at multiples of what they are now.

But more dangerous than the 00s, when terrorist attacks and deaths in Europe were at their lowest ever.

This is true, how easy would it be to go to a Constituency clinic with a knife and a camera and make a video.

The faith also commands them to strike terror into the hearts of the disbelievers and random acts like this are edgier than targeted ones.

Understandably a terrifying one though, and there is every reason for people to be furious and horrified. No excuse for some of the sickening bullsh*t aimed at blaming the innocent, mind. For say, car accidents, they are rarely intentional and there is no ideology behind cars to murder for terror and domination. This is a very human evil and while it will be eradicated - and sadly, almost certainly will another ideology rise for those who can only express themselves through violence to latch onto - but while we are aware that there are a set group of people (by which I mean fundamentalists, not a fifth of the world bloody population) that want to murder, maim and terrorise, their attacks will gain attention. In a way, it may be counter-productive, it gives them the fuel they feed off, but it is how humans react and how they always have reacted.
