Annoying Gym Behaviour - Mk2(?)

Whatever happened to that old thread? I loved that thread.

Anyway, wanted it back because it's entertaining reading. I'm finding it hard to get the ball rolling because at 6.30am there's not much in the way of annoying behaviour in my gym. The usual plates not returned to racks or whatever. Or people splashing big gross wet footprints around the place after the shower.

What new horror stories have we for 2015?

I noticed something recently along these lines too. This guy came in set up the rack to do squats or bench (can't remember which). It didn't affect me as I was working away across from him but I'd say he was checking his phone for about 20 minutes (genuinely no exaggeration) before starting anything. There are people who would have been in and had their work at the rack done during that time. Complete lack of awareness of other gym-goers.

And while I'm at it - a golden oldie of a complaint...............why do people think that others should unrack their weights after them?

What type of showers does your gym have? Everyone I've been in has the ones that are on a timer of sorts.

Really? They've changed one of the branches over to timed showers but these ones remain normal ones

Firstly, you do not know the ability of the person who may use the rack after you. On a couple of occasions I have had to help women remove the 20Kg plates left behind by whoever used the equipment before them. Not everyone can lift heavy plates, particularly from higher bars.

Secondly, why should someone have to go to the trouble of stripping off the weights that you put on. The chances of someone using the exact same weights as you are pretty slim, so the vast majority of time you will be creating extra work for them. I am quite happy to load up the bar the way I want it. I shouldn't have to undo your work before I can start mine.

I've only really started lifting and the amount of times I've tried removing 20kg weights from the bar.

I'm not able to remove them and I very nearly hurt myself the last time.
I've had to ask a guy nearby to take them off. Even if they're lighter plates why should I remove them?
That's just a nuisance.

People need to be courteous and just leave the bar empty for the next person.

The amount of smelly people in my gym is atrocious.

Well, I don't know if it's them or their towel/clothes that they've re-used. Absolutely stinks of stale sweat.

Also you aren't sure if the person is finished or not, they maybe at the water fountain etc.,

It turns out one of my housemates frequently has to pass on a piece of equipment or ask for help because there are a pair of 25kg plates together and she just cannot get them to budge.

You interpreted incorrectly but on reading it back I did phrase it a little clumsily so that's understandable. On a related topic it's even worse when in the case of deadlifts where you see someone pile a huge amount of weight on bars and removing them is a pain in the hole for someone else.
