Never. I think teams have to counteract him in croke park instead of having Vaughan making someone. He just adds something to the team I can't put my finger. He loves croke park.

Great win. Savage. Especially as it lifts the pressure off the team. Kerry will still be favourites no matter what the yerras day.

One observation from me; was anyone concerned about cillian not kicking for points from 45's or frees? I thought that maybe it showed a lack of belief but he was still very good today.

So many positives in this game. Plan was to lock Ros into their own half and not give them space on their kick outs. Flawlessly implemented and led by Cillian and Aidan. The work rate in winning ball was superb and the ability to generate space and drive through it was a joy to watch.

Where was McManus, McInerney and Mullooly for Roscommon? Not sure if we will get that much room off Kerry. It will give us confidence no question. Higgins was just his zippy self and thrived on the ball and ability to run at them. O Shea quick pass back on the one two was sublime.

Dillon strived to unwin it for us and this noble servant has to have played his last game for Mayo. His retirement should no longer be adjourned. Time for the younger lads and the much needed game time to be provided - Regan, Boland can only thrive on this experience.

McStay was magnanimous in defeat and one thing is for certain this will certainly spur them on over the winter months which will make the Connacht championship 2018 a juicy prospect.

So which Mayo team will turn up agin Kerry?

Brilliant performance today lads. I'm from Galway and I reckon both Sam & Liam are crossing the Shannon this September!

I see Paddy Power currently have Mayo as the outsiders at 13/2. I think there's serious value in this, really think its Mayo's year this year. If ye bring the same intensity as ye did to the Rossies in the first half today then no team in the country will be able to handle it.

Do ye reckon I should lump on the 13/2 now before the price plummets after ye hammer Kerry in the semi final?

I thought Cooper was around 352. Not raining on your parade but Mikey Sheehy's record was long before the introduction of the qualifiers.

Where is the source for your stats by the way as I am genuinely interested. I saw a stat that said based on the scores Cillian had posted that he was responsible for just under 50% of Mayo's scores in all matches in the last 5 years and that the dependance on him was statistically enormous as a result.

Strived to unwin it for us? I think he has done enough for Mayo to forgive him a pot shot... unless I'm missing him trying to kick 23 points for the Rossies.

People were complaining that Andy and Alan were kept in the squad when Rochford took over. Andy has made those people look silly. Dillon doesn't bring a whole pile of value on the pitch these days but I'm sure he adds a lot outside of it. Plenty of young lads there that can learn from him.

Edit: Just finished watching it again and that comment is even more ridiculous. He came on in 64th minute, giving him 10 mins. 7 possessions, 1 shot, 5 successful hand passes, 1 kicked pass. He didn't lose the ball once apart from kicking the snap shot into the keepers hands. He retained the ball well and played a part in creating 2 chances on goal.

i thought cillian had a great game off the ball but he really is slow and ponderous on it at times this year. I have a feeling hel step it up for the semi though

haha I wouldn't be parting with any cash just yet, one swallow does not a summer make. It was a great performance but you never know which Mayo team will turn up against Kerry.

Take 2 was just as enjoyable.

Fantastic pressure from the off. An unreal effort and a performance that was needed. Absolutely relentless for 77 minutes. No point in getting carried away but no point not enjoying the moment either.

Barely any real negatives to talk about. Andy got a few nice scores and the goal must have been sweet, was making his runs as usual but he didn't quite stick it to them if that makes any sense. I think we see the best of him on slower pitches when a heavier ground acts as his equaliser. He just seems to find it hard to get that yard of space that he so brilliantly finds for himself elsewhere. He needs to get his shots of a little faster too imo. That's about as negative as I can get. I wouldn't dream of dropping him but I am a little fearful that Kerry might do a job on him.

Hard to pick out the highlights. The pure intensity of the team has to be the main one. Constant pressure on the ball. Cillian intercepting a ball in the corner back position during the 2nd half, Diarmuid helping the FB line one minute and the FF the next. Vaughan running like only he (and MDMA) does. It's like their legs are too fast for their body and nearly leave it behind at times. Harrison throwing himself to block a ball in the 55th minute and storming up the field straight after. Brilliant running by the backs in general. Higgins probably my MOTM. All this with Keegan looking on.

Probably a quiet day from Durcan in fairness but we'll forgive him that. He's never shys from it when needed most.

Tom proves just how much he has been missed. He is a great outlet for a kickout. When he isn't winning it, he's making sure it's not being won cleanly. Lots of dog work from Seamie. Both give Aidan a platform. It probably goes to show just how good he has been this year that I'm not going to bother highlighting his performance.

Doc, sorry for doubting you. McLoughs is too valuable not to be helping out going forward.

Great to see Nally come on and take 2 great points. Didn't quite click for Loftus but it's great to have a viable inside forward to bring on.

Roscommon were poor but from we didn't give them any other option.

Tactically it has been great to see the pressure we're putting on kick outs. That just wasn't there last year. They were on a fairly gruelling fitness regime during the league, doing extra sessions straight after Club and County games. I think it was recognised that you can't be giving up kick outs like we did against Dublin and fitness levels reflect that.

I was also happy to see, what looked like a tactic for Kerry, being worked on. We seemed to be getting 2 back to protect the FB line from high balls in the 2nd half. Roscommon didn't offer much so maybe that won't be as easy done vs Kerry.

Even if we stumbled across the line today, I wouldn't have been afraid of having a crack at Kerry... today just means that I won't be doubting my sanity as much. Can not wait for it... what'll we do with a weekend off!

Great performance today

Just what was needed and what fans have been looking for for weeks now.

Reminded me so much of the 2013 Donegal game.

Hopefully they will have a good plan in place for Kerry, they are certainly beatable but Mayo really need to have their work done and produce a near flawless display to win it.

Good performance but we totally dominated the first 20 minutes and were only 4 points up,unclinical.

I hate when they drop it in to keepers hands Doherty and mcloughlin are very bad for it, against dubs and Kerry they can counterattack straight away. Ball needs to go dead.

The 6 of Higgins,Vaughan, Durcan,barrett ,Boyle,Keegan are vital for our he, their running from deep is the greatest facet to our team. One or two of the always has to be coming forward.

Coc , mora n and aos when together in ff line were isolated and weren't able to manufacture a score like that time Andy hit post
They need support at all times.

Tbh I don't think Dillon is a positive influence around dressing room. To win an AI you must be ruthless, that's what makes coc and Keegan ,Boyle fantastic . they will do anything to win and stop the opposition, Dillon doesn't have that ruthless streak, he's too soft IMO.

What was the story with nally throughout the year, was it an injury I herd? Excellent footballer and adds a physical presence .

Diarmuid o Connor looked a lot more lively today and not as lethargic as other days.

The big question for the next day is donaghy, a real conundrum.

James o donoghue looks ashadow of the player 3 years back in limerick which is a plus I suppose. Geney will b marked by the excellent Harrison and David Moran by Parsons .

Bear in mind that while Mayo won very well, Roscommon were very poor. Its easy to look like the best team in the world when your opposition is poor. @7/1 odds for winning same seems reasonable to bad value -we still need to beat Kerry -(i dont remember the last time we bet them in the championship). Kevin Mc Stay gave a brilliant account of himself in the post match interview IMO. Shane Nally had 2 great points -(would he have scored them against a tighter opposition? would a lot of our points have gone over against stronger opposition? Agree with other posters, Alan Dillons goose is cooked, and I would wager that evan regans is too! oh and Danny Kirby is sticking to form too, proving why he has to wait 62 mins for game time.

Last win in the All Ireland semi final of 1996,all said we have a terrible record against Kerry.

We are rightly so big underdogs going into this contest in spite of the best efforts of a few Kerry lads to already start to big us up.The mind games begin,everything will have to go right for us to pull through.

I think the high pressure running game could suit Mayo v Kerry because as we have seen Kerry have questions at the back.

The problem is keeping their forwards quiet. If they can nullify Donaghey they still have Ganey to deal with and possibly JOD depending on form.

TBF you have Stoner,they are vulnerable when you run at them.Our running game was superb yesterday.

Big concerns re the scoring power of their inside line,how we will nullify the inevitable aerial bombardment that the Donaghy factor will initiate and our ability to cut off the supply lines.

Seriously though before yday I said I didn't care how we won as long as we won . Scraping a one point win would have been enough.
I was wrong .
We needed that.
Team , management , supporters I think we all needed it .
The crowd (those that went ......) were uncharacteristicly muted at the start.

I think we all needed a confidence boost and a bit of belief back.
We have it.
We will beat Kerry

The necessary changes (in defence) were made and we saw the result. Much more solid at the back and Roscommon had no plan B to deal with that.

The O'Se's, Spillane, etc will be full of that for the next week and a half.

You would have to be pretty stupid to take 13/2. Mayo are 9/4 to beat Kerry, which means for 13/2 to work out they are being made even money to win the final. Even bringing draws into it you would be miles and miles better off backing them to qualify vs Kerry then putting the winnings on the final.
