I'm not sure what your point is, but mine is that I don't care if the club do their due diligence and aren't held to ransom for players like Persic or Dier, regardless of how much fans want them to throw money around like confetti.

I want even less for the club to throw hundreds of millions at this years next big thing.

And I could give less of a **** for how City are behaving and most certainly don't consider them a good business model to follow.

It's quite simple, every time the club bends over and takes it over a transfer from the selling club gouging us the worse it gets for us the next time. The reason city are 'doing what is needed' is because their transfer business the last few years has led them to this point. They just spent 50m on a full back Ffs. Long term that's not sustainable so you reach the point you're willing to go to and draw a line in the sand.

I'm happy with our line. We paid up for Lukaku and pogba as well as others. We're prepared to spend big on special players, but why would we pay 60m for this winger that looks average enough.

Mbappe isn't worth more than Sanchez in terms of value to us. Hilarious if someone pays 160 for him. You should be getting a top if not thee top player in the world for that.

My point is who we're these alternative players we could've gotten instead of di maria,pogba or lukaku, you said there were loads of alternatives.. so who were they???

And I do agree with you re we shouldn't be held to ransom and throw money at every problem but sometimes you've got to spend a little too .. and I'm saying that as a boring accountant..

It absolutely is.

Walker is 27, homegrown and signed a longer term deal. He will likely play for City for the next 6 seasons.....making the transfer fee about 8 million per year.

It's really no different than spending 90 million for Pogba. Some people lost their mind at that figure but he is 24. Thats probably 8+ years.

These are long term deals. With the amount of money clubs make, it's absolutely sustainable. Look at the years Real got out of Ronaldo. That was 70 million well spent, no?

Yeah, no official statement on the mcfc site, but a load if stories saying they have, which I will go with.

With the way fees have gone, breaking records is almost meaningless. City just broke the record for a defender twice in a week or so. That's just the level of money needed for players these days.

You need to know the context before moaning. ManUtd don't have the backing of sugar daddy, whatever we pay it's from limited budget however big it is. PSG and City are backed by Middle east owners who spend all the state money on the club.

ManUtd can do what any self funded club can do but can't do everything that clubs like PSG and City can.

Already signed the best striker available on the market along with a young, promising CB.

Relax, another 6 weeks left in the window.
What's great is that media haven't a notion. Personally I believe the Club have improved how the handle the media and the specific dealings in the market.

Barca havnt really though for the last number of years with the exception of Suarez, who was their highest priced player before him, Neymar I think.

Aside from being bank rolled by the Spanish government Madrid generally recoup alot of their outlay for players that they want shut of so their net prolly isn't all that mad.

They are incomparable really to the likes of City or PSG.

Sometimes I find this opinion bizarre. Reading back through previous posts it would sound like we don't spend much money at all.

From 2010-2016 we were ranked 3rd in total spend in the transfer market. City being top.
Now for the last 5 seasons we are second in the league for spending just behind city. (not including this window)

1 Manchester City - £645,350,000
2 Manchester United - £571,800,000

For me, and it's been this way for the past number of seasons, getting money, or approval to spend money is not the problem. It's getting it to all click on the pitch which has been the struggle. I think a lot have the opinion of we should throw money into buying new players, we have been though, I think we don't need to buy just to keep up with City, rather to suit our team.

End of the day, as we have seen, you can buy all the talented expensive players in the world making the team on paper look good but making it work on the pitch is a different story altogether.

EDIT: also think we overspend on players but seems to be the sign of the times for most clubs now

Right think at this point maybe the easiest solution to please everyone is we sign Jan Kirchoff and Sebastien Larsson. Everyone wins. We get a DM and a Winger for free. We are suddenly on a supremely tight budget so we better stick to the free market.

Any fcuking club we go near will instantly increase thier asking price to a level that is "too expensive". Apparently we need to "keep our pants on" so best not to pay any fee. This model worked for Arsenal the last decade or so.

Mentioning Di Maria is just a hilarious out of touch post and in a way so is Pogba even. Each year the prices bloat more and more and more. Last year was it 11 PL teams broke their own Transfer Record? (Some like Bournemouth multiple times). Even this window Huddersfield broke their own transfer record 3 times in 48 hours. The market is bloating for everyone. Theres no point trying to claim its a victim mentality only affecting United. Look at that Keita fella valued nearly at Pogba's price this window with much less of a CV. You just need to keep up with the market.

Well Barca spent over a 100 million sterling last summer. The summer before that about 50 million and the one before that 150 or so including Suarez. The one before that? Neymar for reportedly about 80 million.

And arent Neymar and Messi on something nuts like 300 grand a week sterling?

Barca spend big. They always have.

I never said there were loads of alternatives to Di Maria, Pogba or Lukaku, you misread my post and said that yourself. I said there were alternatives to good but not great players like Persic and Dier, you know, the players we are linked with now and people are complaining about not buying right now. Why would I even be talking about Di Maria?

Though if I felt like arguing the point I would note that there is always an alternative out there, for any player, It would be rather simplistic to think that there wasn't.

Van gaal bid 80m on muller that was confirmed.

We have tried to bring ronaldo back on more that one occasion.

Bale and everyone else will come next season if we can win the league dominantly and get to the champions league semis at least if not win it, show that the team is once again a force to be reckoned with for years to come. Jose is rebuilding the team in his own mould now it will take time and manoeuvrings throwing money at shiny players is the wrong way to go about it. Plus for Bale at least for one more season it's better to serve in heaven than reign in hell.
