In saying that Conor can't stay champion forever if he isn't defending the belt. Aldo fought the No. 1 contender in Frankie and won easily..... Aldo is the deserving champ at this moment in time.

Aldo is the legitimate champion currently but that 13 second loss hangs around the division like a smelly fart. Ok, Conor can still say "I beat Max too" which is fair but enough time has passed on that one. OR.... failing that.... Aldo needs to stop playing it so safe in all his fights. 7 Decision wins in his last 10 victories. If he wants people to forget about the Conor defeat he needs to start finishing fights. A highlight KO of Holloway or some slick submission and fans will begin to move on. Recency bias is a real thing. If he starches Max with an uppercut and lays him out, people will get excited about Aldo and 145lbs again.

It's all just a show apart from the fights themselves so I get why he's determined to do something that's bigger than the UFC. I know he's not the double champion because the champion is whoever the UFC says is the champion But he's the lineal double champ and while he has never defended a belt Aldo has never won the UFC belt he was handed it by default twice
EagererBeaver wrote: » That's utterly daft saying he's the lineal champion. He clearly had no intention of ever fighting at 145 again. Is Rocky Marciano the lineal heavyweight champion? By your logic, Mayweather is the lineal champion in about five different weight classes. If Aldo never won the belt, and was therefore illegitimate, what does that do to your logic for McGregor being a double champion given it was Aldo he beat for it?!
Tigger wrote: » Aldo was lineal champion that's why they gave him the UFC belt the first time. The rest shows you don't understand what a lineal champion is.

Well technically he is. A lineal title can't be stripped. If he never fights again, then the title lineage will be retrospectively restarted with Aldo from UFC200. But until that happens, it's Conor. Also, depending on when you track it from. Conor held the lineal title before he beat Aldo.

Aldo defeated frankie for the interim belt I thought ? Then Aldo got the belt by default ...
Many methods had Holloway as the lineal champion iirc and others had Aldo Conor is the lineal fw champion as he defeated them both
Mellor wrote: » Whether he walks out with two belts or not has no bearing on the achievement for me. If he really wants it, well then he physically owns two belts. The belt Aldo won at UFC 200 is the title no, he wasn't given a new belt when Conor was stripped. I agree about Max v Aldo being the first fight that has really meant anything. It was Dustin Poirier I think. The Shooto lineal belt end up with him. But there is some confusion over the weight limits of a patch in the middle.

Frank shamrock at light heavy - inactive Both retired as champs The rest is litttered with inactivity / leaving divison
