I would imagine if there were many more taxis then the drivers would all be tied to the fast charge points which is why the SCP's should be installed at taxi ranks to even encourage taxi drivers to change to EV and they could plug in while they wait for customers. 6.5-7 Kw is plenty over the course of a day.

I expect the main reason for taxi drivers not changing is because they just take the fuel costs from the fares anyway and are not bothered , I bet that taxi driver in Gorey doesn't pass on any savings to his customers as I expect all taxi drivers would do.

That is a bizarre logic...

What a taxi driver takes in fares is his income - the less cost needs to be covered, the more take-home money. They do care about the cost of fuel - but as many others are not yet convinced.

I know of a guy who supplied a manufactured product part to a MNC.
He found a way to make it for about a third of the previous cost.

Taxi Fares are set by the regulator, the driver has to charge the set rate. Makes driving an EV Taxi a sensible option

This guy's a legend:D . Don't get me wrong - he's still what you say he is BrianD3 but that article - what can you possibly say by way of response! I know it was 2011 and demand on said FCP wouldn't have been what it is today - but he made no effort to disguise the fact that he was (and still is) blatantly abusing the system.

I'd be mad as hell if he affected my ability to charge - so I can understand totally the frustration there must be locally for EV drivers. I've already gotten pretty 'thick' with some bumbling thoughtless fools - but without knowing the guy - I'd assume he's pretty brazen. i doubt a dressing down would bother the likes of him and even if it did, the â‚¬300 yoyo a week he's saving will insulate him from any barracking he gets.

If you're in the area locally - and are directly affected by this lad, ye need to organise and do something (I'd offer to help with that but I'm over 300KM away). I can't say for sure what but where there's a will there's a way. It's precarious territory in terms of what's right n wrong but what would happen for example if he kept returning to an uncharged taxi over a sustained period? I'd imagine such circumstances could arise without a breach of the law? That's a question by the way - so do your own due diligence.

Edit - just to add, if his savings are as he suggested, he's got a €20K head start on anyone else in the Taxi game there - if he's been at this crack since Dec. 2011.

I'm not from the area, but I've always encouraged those who are to disconnect him whenever possible. Even if you dont need to charge, even if you're just passing in an ICE or on foot!

just to clarify, the The Regulator set the Maximum fare. A taxi driver can offer reduced fares if he wants, but he would be mad to do so imo.

And the savings on fuel are offset by the fact that it is much less convenient to charge than refuel and you would be unable to accept a lot of long distance fares. I wouldn't use a Leaf as a taxi if my dinner relied on it. At a push, I would consider the Ioniq, but would want more range to be comfortable.

Taxi picks someone at the airport:
- Where are we going?
- I need to get to some got-forgotten-place 120km from here please.
- Certainly, we just need to swap cars on our way... (and do some grocery shopping)...

Alternatively:
- No problem, we will just do a small detour to get to FCP and relax there for 15 mins.

How many taxi rides would be over 100km? At a guess maybe 1%

Any pre-booked can be handled by ICE and if someone gets into your taxi and asks to be taken over 100km away, politely ask them to get into the next taxi at the rank

Leaf is ideal as a taxi imho

sadly he is a wan&er, Ive had personal runs in with him when he disconnected me, when he thought I wasn't around, sadly penalties will be the only thing that controls these people, cause that as all they react to .

I'd like to also more people use PlugShare with its "Social" aspect available... e.g. writing a comment for how long you going to stay so when you approach FCP you actually know if there is someone and how long they'll stay there. So some sort of "campaign" to promote it is nice touch

It's an emergency stop charging button. It's not an emergency, there's a building on fire button. No need for external monitoring.
It reboots the system and during that reboot the car is technically not charging so it can be unplugged.

Surely it can't be (much) more than the current model? I mean, if it's €35k after grants, that'd be bring it very close to a Tesla, and €10k more than an Ioniq!
