I'm confused as well now....are you saying that Vodafone won't be able to provide a service in my area if we have FTTH?
knipex wrote: » If its the openeir FTTH network then no they wont. If is the SIRO FTTH network then the will. Vodafone will not resell the openeir FTTH product.

chewed wrote: » I'm so p1ssed off now with Vodafone. I was specifically told in the shop when I took out the 4G contract that I could switch over to a FTTH deal once it was rolled out in my area! So now I'm stuck with paying €60 a month for 150GB limit when all my neighbours are signing up for unlimited fibre! ARRRRRRRRRRGHHHHHH

Gonzo wrote: » 1100 euros to break a contract? that is insane. There must be a mistake?
daraghwal wrote: » I would be going back to the shop and demanding they cancel the contract. See what they will do for you. It's worth a try especially when they promised the FTTH falsely. If there's no plans for SIRO in your area then if I were you I'd be straight down to the shop to see what they would do about it. What's the worst that could happen? See what they say if you refuse to pay for the service anymore. They might have a bit more sympathy for you in the shop than the people in vodafone support and they might have a way to cancel the contract for you.
chewed wrote: » it was a 24 month contract. €60 per month. That was according to their chat help guy, but I'll need to look into it. Seems a lot alright.
Gonzo wrote: » Imagine charge 100 euros to break a contract, doesn't seem so bad compared to Vodafone. How many months more are you left on the contract? I dunno which is worse, paying that 1100 back or waiting nearly 2 more years while FTTH is already readily available to you.
chewed wrote: » I know! it's a tough one. I really do feel duped into that contract, especially when I specifically mentioned eFibre being rolled out in my area. The guy in the shop just said it would be no problem to move my account over. He never mentioned Siro to me. If I'd known at the time I would not have taken out this contract. My speeds are actually OK, but having the 150GB limit is the killer! I have about 19 months left on it.

A new exchange went live in our local village, unfortunately we're too far away (3km) to utilise this. There were blue lines (one from this exchange, and one from another) that run either end of our road. Problem is that both stop at least 800 metres on both sides. Are we screwed in terms of FTTH, is there any way to petition this being extended?
Gonzo wrote: » Unfortunately no, the only thing you can do is wait for NBP or hope that Imagine can fill in the gap in the meantime.

Bear in mind, this was an Eir sales guy talking - they've supposedly nothing to do with OpenEir
Gonzo wrote: » I'd say he is spoofing, I don't think the public can help change Open Eir's rollout plans. If it was true it could take many houses to make a case for it.
long_b wrote: » Yeah, plus they'd be taking them out of the NBP?
Gonzo wrote: » yeah it would have to be, right now I'd say whatever is there is locked tight. but what happens if a new house is built in the middle of an FTTH rollout area, I presume they could get FTTH with the cable running past the front door?

Imagine my suprise when I saw my house went from amber to light blue on the NBP map! So I was giving it maybe until the end of the year when they could connect me. They are currently less than 1km away - laying, joining and running along poles. Have been around the area for a few months now. Anyway, this evening I had a visit from an eir sales rep. Telling me less than 6 weeks for a FTTH connection. Going from 2-5Mbps for the last 10 years to a potential 1,000Mbps. I think I'll go with the 150Mbps for now and see how it goes. I want broadband only (no eir Vision or phone). €55 per month on 18 month contract for 150Mbps.Any reason not to sign up with door to door rep? €55 per month sound ok? Is he feeding me BS about 6 week connection time? It's not excactly outside my house yet, but very close. He is giving the same story to the neighbours.
long_b wrote: » What's your exchange? 55 is the standard fee for broadband only. If you had an active phone line with Eir there's a nice all in deal for 63 I think, only for existing customers though
