There has been a movement towards returning the Islamic faith back to what Mohamed preached and cutting out other influences and moderations, that has been building for near 90 years and is coming in to its own now.

Islam in Europe is increasingly dominated by purists who are firm in their commitment to Islam as it was taught and practiced by Mohamed.

Especially so in much of Europe.

Sweden takes in hundreds of thousands of Muslims, AFAIK never been involved in the bombing of Muslim countries, go out of their way to cover up crimes by Muslims & they still have a terrorist attack. Goes to show every country in the west is a target.

Sweden doesn't prosecute returning ISIS fighters. It doesn't ban them or strip them of citizenship. It has a programme to try and placate them by offering them improved benefits and housing upon their return.

IN general countries do not prosecute citizens that commit crimes elsewhere ( with the exception of sex crimes in very specific situations ) , they certainly do not strip them of citizenship ( I dont even see how you would do that anyway , to a native born citizen )

Swedes were falling over themselves to take Donald Trump's comments about "last night in Sweden" deliberately out of context. Trying to paint it as a non existant terror attack when what he was referring to was a documentary he had watched the previous night.

Cultish behaviour is a big draw to people who have mental problems.

Whether or not those who are terrorists are mentally ill (I don't understand how you could carry out an attack like this and not have some form of mental illness) isn't all that important in and of itself.

If population A's mentally unstable people kill a fraction as many as population B's mentally unstable people, then it's reasonable to ask questions of the whole culture underpinning population B and why it leads to more violent mentally ill people.

Or, if there are more mentally ill people in population B than population A, there too, questions need to be asked.

However, if you're trying to come up with solutions to the terrorism problem, while not throwing the foundations of your society in the bin, it's worth taking these issues into consideration.
Also, different solutions aren't mutually exclusive.

The West could stop bombing the **** out of the Middle East and we could look at our immigration system.

We could make more of an effort to integrate Muslim communities and more effectively deport, arrest, etc those who pose a genuine threat.

With this spate of vehicle attacks, the most remarkable thing is that such attacks have been so rare down through history.
We've always had 1+ tonne hurtling death machines in close proximity to large groups of people and have trusted to human nature to keep everyone safe and somehow it's generally worked.
I don't know what's changed or why the penny has dropped now.

Autonomous vehicles will help, but perhaps we'll need to look at more pedestrianisation, more barriers between footpaths and roads, reinforcing the fronts of certain buildings to withstand direct impacts and so on.
Bearing in mind recent accidental fatalities, such as this one in Glasgow in 2014, there may already be reason enough to do it without terrorism so you'd be killing two birds with one stone.

No the problem is Liberals who are willing to jump through hoops to appease Muslims to the detriment of everybody else living in the country, which causes hostility. I have no problem anyone coming to Ireland but I think they should be willing to fit in. The problem here is that in any society the majority of the population will not be marching off to war. Yet it does tend to be the actions of that minority that play a formative role in the image of a nation. We have the same problem amongst islamic societies, only a small number of people will go beheading or throw gays from tall buildings, yet if the remainder can do no more than go "well they were kinda asking for it", then it doesnt really matter how peaceful they are. Put another way, would anyone have gone "the us is doing nothing wrong most of its people oppose the iraq war" even when a country was being invaded?

Why do you think its OK to go live in a country & never learn the language? Well any immigrant who wants to come to Ireland should be made take English lessons, it shows they want to come here & will be a benefit to the country. If they dont want to learn, then they can go elsewhere

That stamping out would be a declaration of war on Islam, even mainstream Mosques would have preaching and content sold that would justify any other centre being closed down for incitement to violence.

If this thread isn't for speculation and discussion of this specific event, what is it for? I uploaded a pic my friend took of the scene and of a suspect getting arrested, intending people to comment on it. What is the problem? What's the difference between me passing around the image and Daily Mail posting the same thing a few minutes later?

We have four types immigrants

(a) EU nationals, we cannot force anyone to learn anything , we can certainly offer support etc, but we cant force it

(b) Legal Immigrants from outside the EU. This is actually a very small number

(c) Illegal immigrants , again a small number

(d) Asylum seekers, being processed to legal stay or deportation

Illegals are deported.

The rest will assimilate over time as their kids go to school

Remember teaching them english just not let them assimilate , the westminster driver spoke the mother tongue .

The language issue is irrelevant

The "ISlam Threat " will recede when the wests violent involvement in the ME ends
