He didn't deserve a red but he did deserve at least a black if not more for stuff that happened right under Coldrick's nose. I was very disappointed in the football game last night. It was disgusting to watch and the only thought I had coming out was Mayo didn't look like they wanted to play football. They looked like they just wanted to punch, pull and antagonise Dublin. Most of it was so expertly done that you can't help but wonder is that what they are actually being taught to do in training. I thought the hurlers were fantastic though and deserved at least a draw. If Maguire had been in goal and a different referee (Johnny Ryan never gives us anything) I think it would have been a completely different game. With that said in the last 10 minutes when it counted Waterford won every puck out and 50/50 ball to see out the game. That's 2 good performances in a row, even if Ger Cunningham won't admit it. I think we can definitely take Clare and possibly sneak it against Kilkenny to stay up. With the Cuala lads back we could push for another Leinster title or All-Ireland semi-final. I'm willing to give Ger the year to see if he can keep the consistency going and help us build.

This Dublin and Mayo supporters get on fine. Possibly better than most. The regular goodwill challenge games between the two county boards over the years point to that, along with some genuine goodwill between some of the posters here. It's good to focus on the positives in our sport.
MayoAreMagic wrote: » What are you talking about? A) Im from mayo. B)sorry but you are supposed to be a mod yet you are clearly commenting in the poster there and not the post, and incorrectly at that... Re mayo and dublin fans getting along. Listen, who are you trying to kid? Go over onto the hill 16 facebook page, or indeed any comment section from the mayo-dublin game and you will see what they think of each other. A lot more than 'just a few idiots'.
PARlance wrote: » That's because you're judging it from looking online... it's generally where the idiots hang out (not so much on here but still a fair few). Our own "banter" page can be an embarrassment a lot of the time. Plenty of goodwill between the 2 counties in real life. At the same time, it would be nice if we gave them a few real reasons to create a bit of an edge.
MayoAreMagic wrote: » No im not. Ive attended 90% of the games between the two teams over the last 10 years. Its not just online. At yesterdays game i heard everything and anything mayo related being lambasted from lots of different dublin fans, and with such ferocity, while getting no response from opposing mayo fans. Be it enda kenny (?), inbreds, thick ignorant culchies, and more nasty personalised type stuff that i couldnt post. This was from start to finish... It doesnt make me angry, it more makes me sad, even confused as to why this attitude is so prevalent. There just seems to be a distinct lack of respect, sportsmanship and decency there.
blanch152 wrote: » I don't think there is a lack of sportsmanship and decency among Dublin supporters. When they travel they bring more colour than most and more fun and money. A lack of respect for Mayo could be explained by Mayo's recent run against Dublin, with no wins in 11 games, there may well be a certain arrogance among some Dublin supporters when we play Mayo. Not my way of shouting at games but it is understandable given the Mayo record.
MayoAreMagic wrote: » , yet it continued from start to finish. It got me wondering - replace the word mayo with black and how would that sound.
MayoAreMagic wrote: » Im not talking about a lack of respect for the football team, Im talking about a lack of respect for the people in general. Im fully aware people get wound up at matches, but this wasnt that - the game was a dead rubber before halftime. Like the type of insults that were flying at the most run of the mill foul out on the field, was actually unbelievable - right up to the last few minutes. In a dead rubber game, clearly there is something else going on when that is the case. The football seemed to be an excuse to hurl abuse at people they didn't like - and that is who the insults were aimed at, not the players but the entire population. No abuse was coming back their way, yet it continued from start to finish. It got me wondering - replace the word mayo with black and how would that sound. This isn't the first time and it wont be the last. So Im trying to have an adult conversation about it. Now Im not saying mayo fans are saints by any means. But to me, they generally seem to be acting in a reactionary manner. The booing of rock's free for example; clearly a reaction to every C O'C free being booed.
Tombo2001 wrote: » I'm a neutral - from neither county; and was at the game. Think you are being a bit over the top here. In your own words, you are trying to have an adult conversation here, so be an adult about it and see it for what it is; a bit of craic. Do you really think that any of the Dublin fans in the hill wouldn't be quite happy to sit down and have a pint with a Mayo fan after the game. There is no real malice in it. Not sure what you mean by a dead rubber game - a dead rubber is a game that counts for nothing; I doubt very much that Mayo management see the league as a nothing competition. The game could potentially have swung back to Mayo up until the 50th minute or so. You mighnt like the booing from the hill - however you could say that at least it means that Mayo is respected enough as an opponent that they get a reaction. Would it be worse if beating Mayo was something that the Dubs take for granted?
MayoAreMagic wrote: » You aren't listening to what I am saying. Any foul were awarded - 'you pack of dirty fn inbred cs'. Any foul that went against mayo - good man deano/mick/etc etc, show them useless fn scumbag kn***ers'. Any mayo wide, big cheer followed by similar tirade, etc etc. From start to finish, game long since decided. Not just one or two, maybe 20 different sources. Mothers and kids sitting there listening to it. There was an old lad over from me who was visibly insulted and afraid. That isn't a bit of craic, it is disgusting and makes me feel ashamed. Im not trying to start a big long argument here. Im just calling it how it was. How anyone could be trying to class that stuff as a bit of craic I will never know.

The team that won Feile hurling in 2007 are all 24 later this year. 11 of the starting 15 in the Senior Champ Final came from the juvenile section of the club, and all were 1993 boys or younger. There are a few lads in the years above and below those teams who have represented the club at inter-county level. At juvenile level we have a lot of representation at county and development squads, but there is the odd gap. We've a couple of very good footballers in the minor panels this year. Hopefully as the years go on, we'll have a more consistent presence on the likes of the U21 panels in both codes.

My daughter and her friend were called "knackers" by a Mayo supporter who claimed to be a school teacher of all things! on Hill at 2013 final. In fairness the rest of people she was with were embarrassed by this. No one reacted abusively to her. Worst incidents I ever experienced were in 80s on the Hill but that was between rival gangs of Dubs. Was in Omagh in 2005 and had the car kicked and shaken when we were leaving! Not making excuses for it, but it is fantasy to imagine that there is any sort of serious tensions between GAA supporters beyond the normal back and forth you get even at club games.

She kept coughing on me too. ****ing tramp. Been waiting to get that rant out of my system.:pac:
