The code is just a python script, which is compiled and run on the fly. If you have installed this new version, go to the directory rteplayer above and delete everything there except the plugin.py file and the rteplayer.png file. Reboot and run. It will create the plugin.pyo and the _init_.pyo file. See if that solves it.
