About 100 “concerned citizens”, including high-profile personalities, have gathered in Dublin on Thursday night to take over Apollo House, a Nama property, in order to accommodate the homeless

So is that happening then ? Am out of the country so haven't been following the news back home.I work in the homeless sector also. How long do they intend to keep this going for ? Intentions are good but seems like a recipe for a disaster without qualified people staffing it. Is it purely volunteer driven? Wouldn't be surprised if it all if it descends into chaos.

I agree. Some will not be allowed into the accommodation as a result of past indiscretions whilst they were in the system also. It's fair to say that some of these people aren't exactly angels, contrary to the image that is being portrayed by some.

It's unusual for someone to be excluded indefinitely.

It would be important to be aware there are different types of emergency accommodation. Some types suit some individuals others don't.

There are TEA which are temporary emergency accommodation which generally might suit someone with no addiction or behaviour issues right up to ONO which suits rough sleepers and few varieties in between such as cold weather initiative, assertive engagement and short term accommodation.

I have my doubts that homelessness is the primary concern of many of the celebs who are championing this cause. Time will provide us with the answer to that question. Certain celebs are more than happy to show their faces at this time of year, for one off events or campaigns and you won't see them again, until the media starts talking about this issue or Christmas rolls around again.

Extremes of violence , inappropriate behaviour.It would be unusual or very rare for someone to be excluded from every single type of accommodation in the city..in fact off hand I can't think of anyone.

However some may not meet certain criteria.

Such a pisser that people can't just get behind something good. Sure this isn't perfect but if we all engaged and rather than spend as much time ranting about it here and maybe email or call our td and at least try be proactive about getting this government and the people that make up our government even aware of the fact we're not havin it anymore it would get things moving.

Not sure we achieve anything whinging about those trying to do something from the comfort and warmth of our houses. Let's whinge to the right people and see if we can help.

Ah yes, legal bills left right and centre, and inevitable injunctions and evictions from buildings that were never suitable to begin with, are uninsured, and in many cases lack basic services. That oughtta solve the problem.

€100k raised for legal costs? I'd doff my hat if that's correct, at least it would spare the taxpayer. A massive waste as the injunctions seem almost inevitable. You sure it's specifically for legal costs and not to help the homeless themselves?

NAMA lawyers kicked off the legals it was reported that way. Is a bit confusing if it's actually in Receivership.

Oh I assumed they'd be wherever the tv cameras are, thanks for confirming that. Very easy when the proceedings are not addressed towards them, the title being "Coyle and Anor v Persons Unknown Occupying Premises at Apollo" acc to the Court lists. But it doesn't prevent them clarifying that they will be indemnifying the taxpayer in respect of costs in the event that the outcome is as expected.

Stop harping on about legal costs you soulless grinch. Doubt you live near Dublin and see the extent of the homeless crisis on a daily basis? We waste enough tax money unnecessarily and this is once cause I'm happy to see it wasted on.

But you can believe that the guitar strummers and magic fairies will whisk the homeless off to magic land where the homeless problem can be solved without consequence by simply shoving them into empty buildings and free gigs and smiles for the camera by celebs.

And others can deal in the reality that will unfold in the High Court today. And point out that the issue deserves to be treated a bit more coherently than dumping them in buildings due to be demolished.

The occupation of Apollo House is illegal - end of. Shouldn't have be done in the first place.

It's easy for people to champion this when it's not in their area. Boyd Barrett was on radio this morning supporting it - wouldn't be so supportive if the building was in the middle of Dun Laoighre.

I'm fed up of people breaking the law.
