Cruiser restoration and wheelchair adaption

So here she is my next little project

she is a Richardson Roving Gem that I hope to convert to take the wheelchair, I'm going to need all the help I can get with this so feel free to offer what you have :rolleyes: I'm going to try and get her moved to Skerries and see if I can pick up a trailer to back her into a driveway as it's too tight to have a crane lift her in. So let me know what you think or any ideas you have. I must be mad

After a bit of a power wash

Inside all stripped out now I have a blank canvas.

This is what she looked like back in the 70's at least the new TV won't take up as much room:)

I also found the faint number F28 and that turns out to be one of the Beaver Fleet Boats http://www.broads.org.uk/wiki/index.php5?title=Boat_Details&BoatId=3501&BoatHistory=5259

It was a good thing I did this bit of sanding if I had of told Simey to do it could easily have been lost for ever

just goes to show next time your sanding an old boat keep an eye out for any letters or markings they could all tell a bit of a story about her.

Evening, I had planded on using window latches to lock in the back door but I noticed that some of the old window frame had a channel that was just the right size for the door to fit in so I cut off the channel I didn't need and fix it to the transom.

Seems to be a good fit and should keep out any unwanted water I will also put a seal along the bottom, I'm not sure what to do about the top bit I might just put it on a hinge or leave it off altogether.

Top and walkway sanded down and washed.

After two coats of primer.

After that my knees were killing me

so I had to find a little job I could standing up so I decided to see if the cleats could be straightened out and cleaned up as the chrome was in a bad way.

This is what I like to see none of that monkey metal.

Played around with the bit of black perspex it looks ok but I might round of the top corner also.

And last of all today I gave the whole of the boat it's first top coat just got finnished as the sun was setting.

She's looking seriously good fergal. It's always nice when you put your hand on something that will fit the bill perfectly on one of those "now how will I sort this" jobs.

Well done so far and I'm sure the finished product will do you proud, as usual.

Not alot to show this week been doing lots of little jobs that seem to take up a lot of time but not very intresting to post about

I put the rub rails on and finished the windows.

Still not sure if I will carry on with timber around the bow or put the black D moulding back on or maybe some fender rope, it looks like a small run around the bow but infact it's 20 foot from timber to timber.

Aiming for April, May but you never know with me if I'm landlocked for too long it might be sooner

A few more odd jobs this week, I made up a basic locking system to hold the bottom of the weed hatch in place, I epoxied a nut into the under side of the timber and then have another one on top to lock it. The corner is cut off so I can turn the timber and remove it. I think I will also sikaflex the bottom of the hatch in place just to be on the safe side it should be easy enough to brake the seal if ever needed.

Started putting 3mm flooring foam on the ceiling to add a bit of insulation .

I'm fitting a sterling quasi sine wave 1800w inverter http://marineparts.ie/electrical/inverters-chargers-and-shorepower/inverters/sterling-quasi-inverter-12v-1800w / just have to get a switch to swap over from mains to battery.

Not a bad price and it also comes with a remote. I have been moving the fridge about the boat trying to find the best place to put it

still not sure yet.

Put the black D moulding back on and filled the gap to the timber with a bit of the old rub rail it's not in the best of shape but will do the job

Although I cant afford a bow thruster at the moment I'm thinking I might fit the tube for one and leave an access hatch to it before I fit out the bedroom, are there any reasons to not doing this besides the drilling two large holes in the hull

I personally would be inclined to do any prep work for the possible future addition of bow thrusters. Even if you never fit them, no harm, but if you do, it will surely make the job a lot easier in the long run. Nothing worse than tearing your hard work apart, to do something that would have been so easy at the time.

Liking the rub rail on the bow also.

Christmas trees flying out the yard here and leaving behind some nice timber pallets for me to use

So I started framing up the inside, this will all be storage space.

Found a spot for the fridge

and also messed around with the sink it's just a stainless steal mixing bowl so I have to cut out a hole for the drain, it's also on rails like a computer table so it can slide in and out.

Not sure what to do about the seating one idea was something like this with the last bit hinged so it can be used as a lounger or dropped down so the door can be open fully.

I could also do the same on the other side but the gap between them is only a foot wide so might be a bit tight for a table.

It's all a bit box like at the moment so I might round the corners or something to stop it looking like a doctors bench

If there are any interior designers out there I'm open to suggestions.

I decided not to do the lift in the floor for the moment but it will still be there if needed down the line instead I have opened up the doorway so that now I can pick up the young lad and swing him around into the bed or put him down on the couch.

Yes the seating has all changed thanks to the donation of this bed settee

now I'm just going to cover the engine box and make the couch L shaped leaving a space for Kyle.

It's a bit tight but will do the job.

Slowly getting back into it

I covered the engine box in cream leatherette

And then cut some foam to extend the seat and give somewhere for the young lad to lay out.

Also got the new bow rail thanks to http://www.eweengineering.com/

Playing around with a few bits of mahogany, I'm sure some of you can guess what it will be

for those that can't tune in next week

I picked up this jump starter in Lidl http://www.lidl.ie/en/Offers.htm?action=showDetail&id=50229 it's very small but says it can start up to a 2 Lt petrol or 1600 diesel will also be handy for charging the ipad and phones.

Not much to show this week, wired in the nav lights, fitted the VHF antenna and installed a Blue sea power source selector this makes sure you don't have shore power and the inverter on at the same time.

and making the presses under the sink.

As for the scraps I was messing with over the xmas

I'm not sure if I will keep it on the boat but it's my mascot for now.

I drink red and port and like it nice and warm

there is also an air vent behind the fridge so it shouldn't be too bad.
