Official Conor McGregor thread (part 3) *Updated Warning in 1st Post Re:Boxing match

The last thread was nearing the 10k post limit so here's part 3.

The same rules as the last thread apply here. People seem to have strong opinions either way when it comes to McGregor and threads here tend to get a bit heated from time to time. Please keep it civil and discuss all things Conor in a mature way.

Any name-calling, trolling, baiting, or being a general ass-hat will earn you a ban from the thread and possibly the forum.
If you have an issue with a post, please use the report post function.

Any off topic posts will be deleted.
Any "Do you even train Bro?" or "I'm an mma fan longer than you" type posts are not permitted either. They only make you look like a fool and as a result, everyone hates you. Yes everyone.

Lads consider this the one and only warning - big fight with a lot of hype around it. It brings new fans to the forum as well as the regulars so try and get along. Any trolling or nonsense and people will find themselves on a break from the forum and that applies to everyone.

Wow. Very powerful stuff. I know you've been told this before, but you are a rare talent in terms of writing. I'm very poor at reading articles, they often just don't hold my interest and feel forced. Your articles are the complete opposite, they're superb and keep my interest totally.

I can't recommend 'doing' enough, I watched rugby for years but nothing compares to playing it, being involved, working for a spot in the starting 15, making new friends and relationships along the way. It's a beautiful thing, people think MMA and Rugby and football are all physical sports, exercise for the body... couldn't disagree more. It's your brain and mental well being that's being trained. I didn't praise of vilify either but it's the reality of the ufc nowadays. It's the way it has gone. Not for the purists. Conor has definitely changed the game completely.

It's in UFC's interest for him to hold the belts.

People seem to get their panties in a bunch by UFC's 'interpretations' and Dana's lies... but as much as the sport inside the octagon is real, UFC is not. It's not a proper, legit sport. Why? Because it was born in an era of capitalism and self interest. If I'm the owner of UFC I'm going to go down the route of making money, and not what's morally correct, because I'm not bound to a sporting tradition because my sport is a new age sport.

That's why McGregor got to fight for the 155 belt after the Diaz saga. That's why McGregor will probably get to keep both belts whilst wars wage for interim belts until next year. Why? Because that's what makes money. End of.

Not saying you directly. I just noticed on other mma forums the same guys that trashed Rickson for the "he has aura" excuse to duck fighting Sakuraba and anyone else legit are the same ones that are praising Conor with "Its not a money fight" to duck defending his titles.

I wasn't a fan of the second Diaz fight but I get it. I get why he did it and I get why he is getting special treatment . As for why would the fighters hang around, well it's simple really. To get paid. At the end of the day Aldo is interim champ. There's nothing stopping him defending that belt. It's not like the division can't book fights without McGregor.

I don't think he's ducking to be honest. He has made tonnes more money doing what he has done than if he had given Aldo an immediate rematch.

How are they going to "get paid"?? Holding the belt gives you leverage come negotiation time, it's an achievement and I'm sure a source of huge pride to be number one in your division. They can fight alright, but what's their end goal?? There's no title to fight for, the interim means nothing.

The Interim Championship is only defended when the actual Champion is out injured. Conor is not injured. He just refuses to defend his title. Why should he do Conor's job for him? He's still won't get his rematch with Conor. So why should he do the UFC and Conor favours? If demands a title fight at 145 he should look in Conor's direction first.

Precisely.. how can a champion of 2 weight classes take this amount of time off. Absolutely ridiculous. If he wasn't a champion then fine but it's his duty to defend, which doesn't seem to be a priority. Is this the longest a non-injured, active champion has gone without defending a belt in recent UFC history?

Where's Gamebred when you need him. Haha. Too many posts to respond to. In my view I'd rather he dropped the belt. I don't agree with a champ being active outside his division indefinitely. It doesn't upset me though. Conor has done things in MMA that may not ever be done again. At least it's exciting. I'm not particularly upset for Aldo either.

McGregor decimated Aldo within 13 seconds after spending 12 months campaigning for the fight. Aldo doesn't have the chin to withstand McGregor. Not sure why people want to see it again and the PPV wouldn't sell well.

McGregor has been very clear about his motives. He said he is going to be a simultaneous 2 weight champion, that he is here for big money and big fights.

He has delivered on all his promises. I disagree with all this pontificating about McGregor not being a true champion.

I hope he spends the next few months doing cardio and putting on some weight and takes on Woodley on his return.

McGregor can fight whoever he wants. But he can have no complaints when he's stripped of the 145 belt.

That is not a valid reason to deny Aldo his rematch. He was undefeated for over 10 years. Undefeated in 18 fights. 10 of those being title fights. He's more than earned a rematch.

Conor is a Paper Champ until he actually defends them.

This " new age" isn't all that new. Pro Wrestling started out legit until promoters realized they could make more money by staging the fights. Fans shouldn't be celebrating the "big money" era just yet. There are too many parallels between MMA and Pro wrestling to ignore.

You can't be the champion of a division you refuse to fight in. It's that simple.

Yes he is. Temper Tantrums won't change the reality of the situation. He'll truly be a Paper Champion if Aldo actually has to defend the Interim title. Many fans will start seeing Aldo as the true Champ while Conor is the one with the phony belt.
