I really want to but i work saturdays mornings and cant really afford to take 6 weeks off... So i'll probably end up just going to one. Either the track day(always wanted to try it) or the corkagh park road race. Any idea of the length of the road races?

Not a clue but I have just realised I never picked up my ID this year, must do that in the morning. Its a bit short notice so I may not make it out either, just wondering was anyone from this neck of the woods heading in.

I'll be heading out, hopefully to 5/6 of the events. I emailed ucd cycling club about the distances of the tt and road race. I'll post here when I find out.

There's a piece on Stickybottle about it.

Great to see the college seen beginning to take off a bit.

I am intrigued at what the level will be like, my first ever race if I get up (I am working quite late the night before).

I presume this is open to all third/fourth level students ie includes the ITs as well? Does anyone know?

Depends on who shows up. It would be very early in the season for some of the top guys.

Ian Richardson, the guy quoted in the piece, is a horse.

From the few replies to this thread I think most of us are going to be technically postgrads :P

I might just give this a lash; fitness is all over the shop though with the demands of a thesis putting any sort of consistent bike-time slightly down the pecking order of importance!

Haha, is that Niall?! I am going to ride it, just sandbagging! On top of that, I damaged a tendon in my foot running over Christmas. It's affecting the stabilising lateral leg muscles, so although I'm limping, my bike riding's ok, it's unaffected other than in big efforts.

I have my 2011 card but haven't got this years one (I am still a student, just never botheres) am I OK? if I have one by the next race or is it a case of no card, no participation? I have a letter from the registrars office if that will suffice :o

if you have your student card for the current term that would be preferable, but your previous term card (with your student number) and the letter from the registrar will be fine

There are some very strong people in the UCD club but I'm not sure that all (or many) of them are taking part. I'd imagine there will be quite a mix of abilities represented though so I'd say it'll be well worth doing. If the worst comes to the worst there is no shame in pulling out of the race part of the way through if you are knackered - everyone has a bad day, for one thing, and if you've given it your all there is nothing more you can do and you'll likely not feel as bad about dropping out as you might expect (I've found it only feels bad when I think I didn't really give it everything). Besides, sitting at the side of the road hugging your knees to your chest and rocking gently is a recognised part of the sport :)

You were pretty much there, so we calculated the time it would take to do the last 10metres

Thanks to everyone who came out today, considering the weather it was a great turnout, from all the buzz I was expecting more, but 23 competed so definitely happy with that. This is where I plug the sponsor cycleways, who sponsored today's prizes, and will be for the rest of the league.

That's what the lads were saying alright, 30km of laps around the new corkagh park track. Should be fun!
