(like all items) it's personnal preference. The hot choc in goyas is very big BUT very expensive and too thin for me. I like thick, Italian style. G hotel used to have great one but changed.
The small place (next to Crepe shop, 2 doors down fron Eason) does lovely hot choc. Well worry a try and cheap

    Looking for opinions on...

    The best butchers
    The best greengrocer
    The best general supermarket
    The best fishmongers
    The best bar food
    The best value early bird

Really sick of the fruit and veg selections in eg. Dunnes with all its chlorine bagged salad leaves etc. Is there any really good greengrocer in Galway with interesting stuff like eg. the Steve's leaves they do in Sheridans, or moderately priced good quality herbs...with a selection extending past parsley and basil!

  • Registered Users Posts: 152 ✭✭Cathal01

I'll give a recommendation for bar food:

Bar No. 8 @ The Docks.
Their new 25 mile menu idea is great (everything sourced within 25 miles). I got a mezze platter(bread, hummus, salads etc) and chips in there and both were amazing. Menu isn't your normal soup, garlic mushrooms etc. I'm really impressed to see somewhere doing something different and it wasn't very expensive either. Also got two small truffles of some sort which had a lot of alcohol in them but were delish...And I have to say they have the best chips in Galway.

A lot will depend on what you are looking for

The best butchers - Feericks in Newcastle
The best greengrocer - Terryland F&V
The best general supermarket - Meh, Tesco, Dunnes, etc, not much diff
The best fishmongers - The one in the GC isnt bad, alternatively there's 2 in Ballybane ind est and theres always Galway seafood down by the docks
The best bar food - depends what you want, mc Swiggans isnt bad
The best value early bird - no clue, I work evenings so I never get to have early birds

My family has been using Collerans Butchers for years. Also try Ernie Deacy's on Sea Road for fruit and veg.
