Yes folks I have my doubts.

Carlow, one of the thirty-two counties on this island yet my only proof of their existence is on a map.

Where do all the Carlow people go??

I have never been to the county and as a young adult attending college I have met people from all different parts of the country- except Carlow. Whats going on?

I know most of the GAA colours of a county except Carlow. Why?

The fact has dawned on me I know nothing about Carlow. I have never heard of any tourist attraction, towns or anything that I can recall about Carlow. Is there something going on there thats ye would prefer we didn't find out....If not, ye must have one of the worst tourist boards in the country with zero P.R. that I can remember.

If you do exist Carlow, where have you been???
Come on join the rest of the 31 counties.

Don't be the forgotten county of Ireland!

So does anybody feel the same or do you disagree??

Is Carlow the 'forgotten county'? 52 votes

Carlow is just something parents make up to scare their kids, like the boogerman or Michael Jackson.

Ah Carlow is grand! Has the same trackie wearing scobies driving their muppet mobiles as every other rural town! Leave it alone :)

(I actually quite like Carlow tbh)

I presumed it was just some kind of budget Car Dealership to be honest.

It doesn't exist, anyone who says they live or lived there are employed by the government to do so as part of a grand plan to extort more money from the EU by claiming that we have more counties than the 24 we actually do - Leitrim falls into the same category.

Carlow is a system. That system is our enemy. But when you're inside, you look around, what do you see? Businessmen, teachers, lawyers, carpenters. The very minds of the people we are trying to save. But until we do, these people are still a part of that system and that makes them our enemy. You have to understand, most of these people are not ready to be unplugged. And many of them are so inured, so hopelessly dependent on the system, that they will fight to protect it.

Went to college there, good nitelife scraggs used to be good not sure it still is and get some good bands playing in The Tower. without the college it would be one horse town.

Carlow is a great town. Great night life during college times. As for tourist attractions, they have such things as the Brownshill Dolmen (the biggest in Europe), Kathryn Thomas is from Carlow and is always plugging it. As far as I know Caroline Morahan is from there as well.

In fairness, the Brownshill dolmen is way oversold. It's a couple of big rocks in the middle of a field. You walk around it, that's it. Bit like the Holy stone of Clonrickert.

Famous people from Carlow include engineer William Dargan, regarded as the father of Irish Railways, songwriter Ritchie Kavanagh and Michael Flatley's mother. Not realy sure if that last one counts but I will put it in anyway. Or the one before that either. Come to think of it forget I mentioned any of them

I amtrusting your facts are true but do you not think its ironic, Kathryn Thomas is a tourist destination show presenter yet her native county(if it exists!) is unknown amongst many!!

Ah now, that would be an ecumenical matter!

She done a whole show on the fact that she is from Carlow. She makes it public knowledge. I am surprised that you didnt know that. I have done a poll in the office here and majority of the people knew she was from Carlow. The office isnt in Carlow by the way

Out of interest, population wise where does Carlow feature?

Maybe a low population has led me to not meet any Carlow natives- mind you I have met plenty from Leitrim.

Carlow, Shall I compare thee to a summer's day...............

Its kind of weird alright, it is the forgotten county. I guess theres just not much goin on in it that it should warrant much national debate.

When you start mentionin Kathryn Thomas as your claim to fame you know your in trouble!

I agree that once you leave the county you dont meet an overabundance of Carlow people on your travels. Im from Carlow county, when I went to college I think I met only 1 student who was from Carlow. Maybe they ALL go to Carlow IT!

Population of County Carlow from the last cnesus is 52500. As for the town istself I am not sure I would hazard a guess at around 25000-30000

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 841 ✭✭✭toe_knee

Dont forget it hosted a number of World Ploughing Cahmpionships and the U21 World Snooker Championships as well

Nah the town is more like 15000, I'll try to dig out some figures...

Ok population for Carlow town and "environs" was 21000 in 2008:

Them figures mean nothing to me without knowing all the other counties in Ireland population.

I.E. Is it the fourth smallest, third biggest, etc.
