    FYI More to follow.

The next installment of the Phoenix Rising events is looking to take place during spring 2009. The venue is still to be determined but what we can tell you is that the event will be concentrating on the all out war being fought between Azerbaijan and Armenian over the the Nagorna-Karabakh region. More information coming soon....

The unconfirmed venue is Sennybridge as far as I'm aware

I'll sort another info thread shortly. PM me whatever details you think are needed (for those who have been already)

Basics from last time in Sennybridge (may not apply in different weather conditions).

    - Place is a pain in the cacks to find in 10m visibility fog. Bring long-range PMR and scan for talkers, then ask.
    - Goretex. You're up high enough that it's probably going to be in cloud cover, which soaks you worse than rain.
    - You will be utterly useless without comms. Bring spares.
    - Nearest decent-sized town is Brecon. Epic chinese. On nom.
    - There was no power there last time, and buildings gave wind-chill cover, but not much else. Warm ****. Bedroll. Spare batteries.
    - Chipper van saved my life. Scalding hot cups of tea at 0230 ftw.
    - Don't do what I did and dehydrate yourself. Epic fail.

    Travel tips:

    - Best ferry is the seacat at 13:30 friday Dun Laoghaire->Holyhead, leisurely drive through wales, then the 14:30 slow boat from Fishguard-Rosslare on the sunday. It's about a 3 hour drive from holyhead, and less then 2 hours from Fishguard (note, figures above given for normal driving conditions, i.e. your granny isn't driving).
    - Stena Line.
    - You don't need to declare stuff to Stena in advance, just let the person know on the gate checking your ticket that you have firearms. Yes, I know they're not firearms, but explaining it takes longer, and all you want is for them to get harbour police. Harbour police will come have a look and wave you through after taking your names "in case the lads in wales give you hassle". Your man we talked to was sound enough.
    - Have your invite letter/ticket in case cops in wales want to see it.
    - It's not as mad of a drive as it looks on gmaps. Could probably even do it without stopping.

You don't need to be special forces or anything close to it, as we saw last time. We don't claim to be elite by any means but because we understood the concept of team work we put as the first team called up when command "needed a job done"! Go Alpha 4-1 !

The main thing you need is the correct kit, not AEG's etc, outdoor clothing, sleeping bag, good boots etc. Watch the treads on this event their will be a essential kit list posted (many times prob), and don't hesitate to ask questions on what you are bringing.

Well if thats the type of thing it is..... I should be ok, Was a scout for years. Sounds really good. Are they large events? In terms of area and people.

  • Registered Users Posts: 913 ✭✭✭fayer

    You will love this then.

Big numbers, well split up into small squads, large site alright, 20+ buildings some 4 story and very big.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,148 ✭✭✭✭Lemming

What's the fps by law over there?

Varies from site to site, but as a general rule of thumb *, 328fps + 10% deviancy

    * For the love of god please check with the site in question

    Motorola XTN446

Could not recommend them more, brilliant radio, great quality build and great sound quality out of them too.

They are bit difficult to find now, but decent ones can be got on ebay for about 120-150 per handset, just gotta make sure you get the good ones with charger and battery etc...

    http://shop.ebay.co.uk/items/_W0QQ_dmptZUKQ5fConsumerElectronicsQ5fSpecialistRadioEquipmentQ5fSM?_nkw=xtn446&_sacat=0&_fromfsb=&_trksid=m270.l1313&_odkw=xtn+446&_osacat=0

There is also the replacement for the XTN446, which is the XTNi and XTNiD (think the XTNiD has a display and the XTNi doesnt)

I've also got the motorola xtr446, which can be had off pixmania.ie, for 80 euro a pair. They also take takabout accessories, which are very easy to find.

does it come with a battery and charger? nice so that means i could fit a bowman headset to it as long as i get it in motorola 2 pin yea?

    Count me in

Dates are looking like 4-6th of april i think.

I got an email from ian just forget what it said :)

I should be there though. Was impressed with the site last time I went, and from the experienced players over there, said that event wasnt near the best, so there might be much more.

Also being that the roles a re kinda switching, with azerbajan becoming the attacking force and armenia defending, we will have a nice opportunity to experience a different aspect.

I'm starting to stockpile on red bull already

    This is gonna be epic.

These were the limits last time I went (PR1):

    350fps AEG's, Shotguns & Pistols
400fps Sniper Rifles (Bolt action or Single-shot AEG) with a minimum engagement range of 25 metres.
500fps Sniper Rifles (Bolt action only) with a minimum engagement range of 25 metres.
(Just plucked it from http://www.ta-events.co.uk/phoenixrising/rules/ )

Although you dont want to get caught with any higher then as Lemming stated in Ireland as it would be illegal.

Yep, battery, charging station for both, and actually a wee in-ear headset for each, too.

No, it's motorola one-pin headset, for talkabout I got this throat mic for it, select the 'M6' connector : http://www.gadgetinfinity.com/product.php?productid=16635&cat=0&page=1
