Lillie Bordello's in Dublin are starting a Movie Thursday beginning May 28th with Grease. There's no link to it on their website but if you check out their Facebook page or give them a ring, they have all the details.

The Terminator, June 23rd in the IFI.

Three coming up in the IFI that might be of interest are

Once upon a time in America starting the 5th of June

Jodorowsky's Dune on Fri the 19th of June

    and finally

The Long Good Friday which can only be booked from the 15th of June.

Having seen all three and owing two on DVD, I'd recommend all of them. However if push came to shove I'd (personally) go; Once upon a time, then Long good Friday, but Jodorowsky's Dune is an experience, particularly if like me you are a fan of frank Herbert and Lynch's Dune.

The Third Man is on in the Lighthouse today, any ideas of source, don't want to pay €9 (or anything) for DVD projection?

DCP from the recent 4k restoration, I assume.

The Third Man is on a re-release in the UK and Ireland at the moment, so anywhere showing it has a proper digital print.

Erm... as opposed to putting on a season of films that few people want to watch? Isn't the Light House a business? The purpose of businesses is to make a profit, or "cashing in", as you put it.

I didn't get that either. I'd also want to go see some of these old movies on the big screen in decent quality.

Of course they are, I just think it's not very imaginative of a cinema to put on a load of '80s kids movies as if it's some kind of amazingly original thing to do. That they're being called 'old' movies is a narrow view of cinema, but maybe that's because I grew up with these films, and love them, so now I feel old too.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22,651 ✭✭✭✭beauf

These movies were made decades ago.

I dunno what else you'd call them.

I think its a great idea. Showing themed movies of interest to different groups.

The only problem I have is getting the free time to see them.

What are screenings like in the sugar club? Is it a cinema type vibe or is it shown in a pub/club type atmosphere with it being more background noise??

I always had this idea that it was like this place I used to go to in oz where its on the pub wall and not really expected to be viewed normally
