    Hi

I know what I should do. I just can't do it. I lost 4.5 the first week, was chuffed, really felt the benefit too. Then we had easter, and bank holiday weekends and and and. So I gained about 3 since......
I went back last week with full intentions of focusing and being determined, and then we had a long weekend, with ice creams, birthday cakes, dinners out, home made pastries.. and I've no doubt tonight when i stand on the scales I'll be up too.

I used to also do an enormous amount of excercise I'd walk and run and go to the gym for classes... I can't get off my fat arse to walk to the shops these days.

Work is busy, but I've no kids and I'm home by 6 most evenings - so no excuses......

I know what I should be doing and if I was responding to someone elses thread I could write the book for them.

What I need is any advise on HOW TO DO it............

    What motivates you...
What gets up 1hr early for that run
What makes you stop on the way home for the gym
What makes you not eat the dairy milk.....

You need to find what works for you. Nobody here has a magic formula to make the weight disappear without you having to do anything. It's simple - stick within your points, opt for the healthy and filling foods, drink lots of water and get some excercise in. Thats all there is to it.

When I started WW i wrote out a little list of why I want to lose weight. When I find myself struggling I read that list and I don't want the junk food because I want to see a loss on the scales, not a gain.

I understand your frustration but at the end of the day, nobody can lose weight for you. You have to do it for yourself.

    Hey all,
took a little break from all things electronic over the weekend and it felt great!
I was so relaxed and chilled going back to work yesterday. I done exactly what I wanted to do over the weekend - spent time with family, nice walks, relaxed.
Food wasn't as good as it could have been, but feck it, I hadn't had take away in about a month and won't be having it again for a long time.
WI today not sure how it's going to go, forgot to bring my little pumps with me, as I had forgotten it was Wednesday! Am wearing big boots, but sure if i'm down, i'm down and If i'm not I'll blame the boots! haha!

Lainy, you were talking about the WW mag...I buy it every month for the recipes but the last two editions have been really great since the revamp! This months stories were really inspiring, and that man that lost 19st...wow! Myself and OH were blown away just by his stats!

Re-starting C25k this evening. My best friend is home for the summer now, and we're determined to get fit. She wants to loose a bit of weight too. We had a good walk on monday and used this OAP outdoor gym, but really felt the benefits afterwards. Hopefully rain clears up later :)

I just want to be happy....at the moment my weight sadly i
fluences every bit of my life and I hate it...

I dont go out....cos I have nothing to wear...cant even wear nice high heels.
I'm not "my self" around people cos I know I'm a little quirky....weird even...i dont want to be the weird fat girl....want to be the quirky cute girls I'm the girl every guy wants to be FRIENDS with cos "omg she's so cool"...I want to be the "omg she's so cool, smart, funny and cute....wonder would she go out with me" girl! Cos face it....the majority of guys go on looks...looks are the first thing they notices...I want to have a nice figure..to attract them....so they can get to know me...looks are the bate....my personality is what'll keep them....I dont mind being ditched/dumped for my personality....its who i am....FAT is not who i am....its just bad packaging for who i am

I want a guy to like me...love me for who i am....but in order for him to get to know me....generally they have to like what they see to spark up that initial conversation

I want to get back horse riding so badly...and reconnect with my aunt...she's really into the horses...We used to be SOO close....but totally drifted apart when i stopped riding. I'm studying animal care in college, studying equine care next year....how can i possibly work with horses and be too fat ride...no one in the industry would take me serously....and I also have land...i have empty stables out the back garden....my life is designed already to have horses!

I also want to get HEALTHY....where I'm living has a horrendous level of cancer...i know so many people my age who have already nearly died (or have died) from cancer...and I'm only 24! I want to be healthy and strong....so that if I should ever get it...I can fight it with every cell of my body!

I'm doing it for me! I'm a good person...a good friend...but I've drifted away and loss touch with people because not wanting to go out and be the token fat friend...I dont blame them for leaving me behind...they prob think i dont want to see them, when its more like oh god....they always look so good when out, i dont want to be the frump next to them! plus....fat clothes are so expensive...i'd love to go into pennys and get a cute dress for 10 euro for a night out...

My skin also gotten better, brighter completion, less dark eyes, more energy from eating the right foods. I actually FEEEL healthier (when i'm doing it right)
What stops me going for the toast (toast is my dairymilk)....well this weeks its been....oh god this will have me feeling like **** in about 10 minutes....i'll hate my self for eating it....and it'll prob start a chain reaction of CRAP....and all my good energy vibes will be gone...tomorrow i'll feel crappy and bloated and depressed cos i just pissed all my hard work down the drain....Thats whats stopping me this week form hitting the toast of the chocolate cake....altho last week i did eat the chocolate cake....and felt AWFUL after it...mentally annoyed...but also actually unwell....all bloated and heavy and it was too rich, the 5 seconds of chocolate taste wasn't worth the week tail spin of crap eating the chocolate cake led too....

I've also noticed especially this week I'm eating the healthiest i have...in WEEKS....and I'm sleeping SO SO SO SO SO SO much better. Bad sleeping runs in the family....so i dont want to feck up my good sleeping....

Now that ladies and gentlemen is a LONG post.....what ye right are snippets compared to my rants

AND COME HERE! READ OTHER PEOPLES STORIES, EXPERIENCES,TIPS,

I come here when I'm doing my shopping list....I ask them what I should put on it! LOL You don't get that at meetings! We all swop notes on brands, aldi, lidl, tesco, centra, dunnes, supervalu, ect...

Losing weight is a personal adventure and you gotta sit down and figure out why you want to start the journey.....we all have a different tale to tell but I think it starts with wanting a change!!!

For me its for my kids, I have two gorgeous, active little people and I am tired of watching from the sidelines cause I can't last more then 5 mins running around after them!!! I gotta stay healthy for them cause I want to see them grow up, I have a terrible sweet tooth and was heading down the diabetes route so it was time to sort myself out plus I didn't want to pass my bad food habits on to them!!! Now they eat healthy by default cause I cook healthy, they eat fruit and veg and enjoy their meals and I get to feel like a mom again!!!

and to be perfectly honest I do it for me :D I am sick and tired of being overweight, I got myself this way by indulging and I can get myself out of it by changing my ways!!! I want to look nice in my clothes and be able to wear the shoes I want not the icky sensible ones cause they are all that will fit......its vain I know but its the combination on things that gets me off the couch and on the treadmill......that helps me to say NO to chocolate and crisps (my DH works for a crisp company......but they stay in his van and not on my hips :D)

This thread is a great place to find help and be inspired, everyone here has been where you are, fallen off the wagon, got back on, had good and bad days but we will get there in the end......

my leader once said 'Losing weight is not a sprint its a marathon' it takes alot of hard work but I really believe its worth it in the end  hope that helps :D

Lainy, that is such an inspiring post - fair play to you for being so honest! :D

I'm also losing weight for me! I have spent the best part of the last year looking after everyone else in my family, extended family, friends and then the stress of my job on top of all that. Every Jan, I make a list of New Year's Resolutions and every year I put "Lose weight" done and this year, I just got sick of it. I got sick of looking in the mirror at all the wobbly bits, fed up of being bigger than my sister and my mam and all my cousins, fed up of not being happy with what I saw in the mirror!

So that is what motivates me to put the chocolate down and get out and do some running! :D

Lainy, that was such a well written and heartfelt post.

On paper, all our reasons for losing weight will probably be the same look better/feel better/health etc but we all have our individual stories behind those reasons.

Unwilling - YOU have to want to do it.

Like the others said, there is no magic formula.

My reason for joining WW - one of my boyfriends best friends, there is a big group of them that have been friends since school. All the girlfriends lined up to take a pic of the lads and then they took one of us because of the way we had lined up. I cldn't believe it when I seen the pictures I was three times the size of the rest of the girls who were all 8-10's. I was disgusted. The following wednesday I joined WW.

My commitment has wavered from time to time, especially over the last month. And although I could be doing a lot better, I'm proud of myself to have lost over 2 and a half stone.

There's always an excuse - weddings, birthday, bank holiday, sun shine, rain, time, family, work, tired - but at the end of the day you're only kidding yourself. For WW to be successful we have to stop using these things as an excuse.
I think the key is everything in moderation - i've ate badly for the last few days but now I'm getting the exercise bug and I have no excuses.

You can eat the ice-cream or birthday cake or dairy milk - but if you have it every day and don't exercise it's going to show on the scales.
I didn't eat great over the weekend and I feel like crap now - no energy and can't concentrate. That's my incentive to get back on the wagon and do better next week.

Great posts re the reasons we want to lose weight ladies.

I am 48, my sister died at 33, my husband at 41. Neither of these deaths were fat related but nonetheless I don't want to die just yet and that is why I am doing this - to get healthier. I am a type 2 diabetic (self inflicted to a degree I suppose due to bad eating habits) with high blood pressure (hereditary and the cause of a lot of premature deaths on my maternal side). Since starting WW 7 weeks ago I have seen a marked improvement in my health and my energy levels. I am (pre WW) the laziest lump known to man, now I feel a little cheated if I can't get out there and get a walk in, and I'm enjoying it.

Yes, I do want to be able to go into any shop and pick up what I like off the rails and not just the meagre selection they too often have in Size 18. I want to look good and not carry this lump of a stomach around with me!!!

You do have to have it in your head to do this and be in the mindset for it, Many years ago - 24 to be exact  I lost 3 stone with WW, and in the meantime I've put on that 3 stone and another 3 with it and lost them time and time again but this time I KNOW there will be no going back!!! I am determined! It does not mean I will adhere to the program religiously at all times but I will do my best most of the time.

I like the WW program and going to be weighed in, as for me I need that discipline. GTI's "Motivational thingy" is great too as is this thread and the people on it who are always there with some advice and a friendly ear.

There are a thousand excuses to go off the rails but at the end of the day NO ONE is standing over us with a gun to our head making us eat CRAP, that's our choice! And it's a choice I'm not going to make 99% of the time from now on.

Really great post ladies, very motivational!:)
The reason why I want to lose weight, is for me, I want to feel comfortable in myself, and i dont at the moment. Was finding it very hard the last weeks, dont think all the bank hol wkends, weddings and going away parties have help the last month, but i know that is no excuse, i shud be in control of what is going into my mouth, but sometimes, my willpower is just not strong enough!
This is it now tho, NO MORE EXCUSES! I have to do it for myself and not anybody else, im the only person who can do it for me. Would love to have 7lb gone by the end of July, so thats my focus for now!

Just finished making dinner for the next three nights! So I know i'll be good for the rest of the week before WI

made a HUUUUUGE Quorn lasagne! (serves 4) but i'm a piggy so I'm having 3 decent portions instead of having small portion with sides. (all within my dailies)

Have it devided up down to the gram on the scales in 3 equal lunch boxes! :D

    guys,

need some idea's for salads, not the bits with the salad, but the actual salad veg.

I tend to have lettuce, peppers, tomato, onion, gherkins, boiled egg, beetroot and some dressing(low fat vinegerette, relish, low fat mayo, ...)

    with any of the following:

salmon, tuna, ham, cheese, tuna&egg, boiled bacon, portion of meet from previous day's stirfry(diced pork/beef/turkey, ommeletes,....

its the salad veg that is starting to get a little bland, any idea's

Find salads can get boring too.

I sometimes use couscous/rice/ as a base and leave out the leaves

Have you tried chilli sauce maybe mixed with mayo or mayo with lime juice or lemon juice.

Melon is also great with salad and bulks it up.

    Hope this helps

Trying to find a non carb side for some minute steak to have to lunch tomorrow....i've reached my limit on eggs....cant look at another egg for a few days!

Trying not to have carbs for my lunch, been having chicken or ham last few days with scrambled egg for lunch...really filling....but dont want to be eating too many eggs.

so thinking lightly grilled minute streak on george foreman tomorrow for lunch....but it'll look kinda pathetic on its own... having alot of quorn this week...cos it just happens to be in the freezer....so kinda hanging for some MEAT haha ....any ideas....

non carb (or at least REALLY low)

Salad will not do it for me!

Very nice, I'm veggie too, can you post up the recipe and pp per portion?

    You're making me hungry:D

Trousers feeling looser today, feeling great about dieting today, can almost see my goal in the very, very, very far distance:D

Lainy you could well be my twin - well apart from the toast and the horses and ......well the age - enough to say am old enough to be your mother and then some. So girls be warned losing weight isnt easy at any age and the choice of clothes is much worse..........unless you want to look like a whales granny. Worse thing of all is your self confidence just goes throught the floor.

Am so well off really, have a great hubby who gives me great support and loves me regardless of size, but still hate the way I look.

Have lost almost 2 stone but have fallen off the wagon on holidays and today is the first day that Im back on track FOREVER this time.

Thanks to all for the posts they keep me going

thats the beauty! I'm not even veggie! I just like it cos its lower in pp and isnt actually that bad...once seasoned right

This recipe SHOULD serve 4 at 10pp each....but I have higher point allowance and i like big portions...so i have it devided into 3 portions at 14pp each.

Today while making it I added some extra paaasta, a second onion, and some finely diced baby carrots...cos i'm REALLY REALLY trying to get more fruit and veg into my diet...i'm uselss at eating veg! So as I'm takinga bigger portion I wont be spendng points on a side!

Its a recipe i tweaked and taylored to suit what i had in the press...stole bits of it from various lasagne recipes i'd seen online and read about on here :D

    Why lose weight
    1. Because I was so fat I nearly killed my children and anyone else near my car on that fatefull day....I fell asleep driving my car because I had undiagonised sleep apena and my weight was and still is a major contributing factor to it....To counter act this I now sleep with a Cpap machine which forces air in to my lungs ensuring a goodnight sleep I am at nearly 40 a medical version of Hannibal Lecter with my lovely mask... If i lose weight I may be may able to rid my self of it.
    2. I have two wonderfull children who need me and because one if not both is Autistic they will need me for longer....
    3. Because I am a woman and like to dress well and look good, Fat is just not in, especially in the quantites I have
    4. Diabetes runs in my familly I need to tackle my diet
    5. I want to play with my kids and run and swim with them....I lost weight on both my pregnancys so me being fat cant be blamed on them
I am fat because I have made poor choices with my diet over the last 20 years and did no exercise

I am getting skinner because I am making better choices with food and exercising more

    Benfits
I am sleeping better.....I have better skin and hair I can now go in to Dunnes and pick up some clothes and know they will fit I have not bought clothes in Dunnes in about 15 years....I dont get a big spoty spot to announce to the world its my TOTM anymore.....my mood is better and I feel better I have lost 45.5 pounds I want to lose 101 in total

I will call my journey dieting 101 when I reflect on it

We all have our reasons and each and everyones is valid but we all will have days when we fail so we need to pick ourselves up and continue and look at the journey as a long time event and count our losses over the previous 4 weeks and if overall we are down good job if up we will then need to reasses because life and Mars bar cakes will happen:P

Well done everyone so far for the stories and keep it up

GT put a tablespoon of Bombay mix in your salad gives it a whole different texture, also some red grapes or pickled onions

Haven't been on boards for a few weeks so haven't posted any updated. Weight has been up and down, it's actually a lot harder than i thought to stick to it! I'd lost 5 pounds in total then was up 1 then missed a week and went to today and was down 3...so 7 in total. Still a good bit to go but getting there!

Need to get back in the habit of writing down my points again!

chicken salad, with crunched up ryvita as croutons,
we been talking about salads lately here, so instead of lettuce leaves....maybe rice, couscous, noodles,

I have a few recipes attached, they are from an old ww cookbook, but i have the conversion to pro points attached too for the recipes

you could always just have a smaller portion of one your favourite dinners for lunch.

    Mediterranean Style Fillet Steaks
    ProPoints Value: 6
    Servings: 2
    Preparation Time: 10 min
    Cooking Time: 10 min
    Level of Difficulty: Easy

These mouthwatering, juicy steaks are ideal for barbecue season. At only 6 ProPoints values per serving, you can put one on the barby without worrying!

    Ingredients
    300 g Beef, Fillet Steak, Lean, Raw, 2 x 150g fillets
5 spray(s) Cooking Spray, Calorie Controlled
    50 g Spinach, baby
    2 large Tomato, sliced
1 teaspoons Chilli, Green or Red, finely chopped, optional
    30 g Cheese, Feta, crumbled
    2 teaspoons balsamic vinegar
    1/8 teaspoons (ground) Pepper, Black

    Instructions
Heat a char-grill pan or heavy-based frying pan. Spray both sides of the steaks with calorie controlled cooking spray. (When char-grilling, always spray the food, not the pan). Place them in the pan and cook over a medium-high heat for 3-4 minutes on each side, depending on the thickness of the steaks and how you like them cooked. Test with a sharp knife, and cook for a little longer if preferred.

Meanwhile, mix the spinach, tomatoes and chilli (if using) together. Serve the steaks, topped with the spinach mixture. Sprinkle the feta cheese and balsamic vinegar on top and season with black pepper.

    __________________________________

I will tweak it slightly cos i dont have any feta or spinach in the house...but this will be the core idea of my lunch tomorrow!

thats the one thing i know nothing about....nor do i trust the points of chinese....I dont get take outs (cos i live in boggerville so none of them can find my hosue...and i dont drive...yet)

and i just find it impossible to believe that a chinese dish can be 9pp...the amount of oil used...and noodles...like we've all pointed noodles....they are insane!

I dont go to meetings...never been to a meeting on propoints cos i'm doing it online thru the uk site. best thing would be to ask your leader if she has an accurate point list for chinese....and to ask her the portions for those points...cos the portions vary massively from place to place

(i've been doing ww going on .....2 years this november)

Last year i was only kinda 50% doing it...but since january been giving it about 65% i was in college...just didnt have will power...but since finishing college/exams ect....been giving it 100% since start of june...feel like i'm starting ww all over again...and riding the buzz i'm on!

I'm working part time from home for the summer as a groomer....kinda 2 or 3 dogs a week...so i have loads of time to help others....and helping others...HELPS ME...I have the luxury of time...and trying to make the most of it.

with baby spuds...you gotta weigh them raw...point them the same as regular potatoes,

ah girl i'm only 24....i'm getting better at cooking...i'm living at home...but i do my own cooking....so if i want to eat nice food...I gotta get good at cooking!
My george forman and ovan bags are my best friends! its really only in the past week i've started REALLY cooking and using recipes properly!

I was so so so proud last week when i made a whole lasagne last week from scratch...my own white sauce...my own tomato sauce (gotta love passata) and it turned out GREAT! and it was Quorn! less points!

Oh i come on here when I'm making my shopping list...i've also started using tesco online! best thing i ever did....i can take my time....compare products, and really think about what i'm putting into my basket...i get all my recipes sheets and books out and open and see what i need.

I've been buying WAY WAY WAY WAY less junk since using tesco online! Tesco light choices do alot of nice bars and snacks.

I'm trying loads of new "tricks" this week.

    -cutting back on coffee,
-cutting back on potatoes (I LOVE SPUDS..but i was eating WAAAAY too much of them...nearly every night...cos they are effortless)
    - cutting carbs from my lunch
    - scheduling snacks (i eat six times a day this week, 3 meals, 3 snacks)
    - started eating ryvita for the first time ever this week (I LOVE THEM NOW)

dont get me started on doggies being my babies...i got a new puppy few weeks ago...he's my baby! Rua...a red setter. he's my non food reward and also a project for the summer. I'm spending way more time out in the garden watching less tv. getting him ready for shows for when he's 6 months.

So doing basic training and signing up to doggie classes soon with him :) and once im in classes...i'll be doing the "homework" every day...he'll be top dog!

yeah dunnes are the main irish stockist for ww (oh hell i know WAAAAY too much about ww) The only ww products i always use are the dessert style yoghurts....oh they are YUMMY in my readbrek :) I love there bagels...but i'll eat like the pack of 5 in like a day! toasted with with flora light....YUM...but such a waste of points really

    Online
you get an online tracker, and database of foods and recipes. lots of interesting articles about how and why ww works, and how to survive different events like parties, eating out holidays, its way cheaper too. like 12 euro a month. you weight in at home on your scales (you need a decent digital scales) And enter it to the computer, dont have anyone giving you feedback...its really down to the person to be honest about what there eating and drinking. I went to meetings for about a year but switched to online when i started college cos i just didnt have time for meetings.

Online just suits me...cos im always at the computer, so have a huge datebase of foods...i can never use the excuse of "ah i'll just guess" specific brands are point to so i can choose the best brand to suit my points. I use this thread as my support and encouragment

(sorry if i'm posting too much....everyone must be so so sick of me)

Lady Lainy - your on a roll today girl, love reading your posts, you alone are a motivation to stick at it (& i've even reached goal) The white sauce for your lasagne, can you post up just the receipe for the sauce,if you get a chance, looking at this on phone so can't download your word document - sorry.

Very inspirational reading on here today - good luck to you all, if you want it bad enough you'll get there, take it from me - it takes time but its so worth it.

Thanks to you all for the info on the Passata - gonna give it a shot at the weekend.

awwww thanks! that is SO nice of you to say, I REALLY appreciate it. I only use passata for the first time last week too...had a carton if it in the press for weeks...trying to find a way to use it!

ooooh yeah making that lasgane into three portions was the right direction for me...just had my dinner portion...and dear god 14pp im STUFFED!

Baked apple later on....or maybe i'll grill some of the tinned pears...

    White Sauce:
    300ml Skimmed Milk
    1 tablespoon of Flora light
2 - 3 table spoons of White flour
30g Dubliner Light FINELY GRATED YOUR SELF

Pretty much what your doing is making a roux with the milk, flora and flour..

Add everything EXCEPT the cheese to a NON STICK saucepan. and whisk to your arm falls fall...do not leave it for one second wisk wisk wisk wisk...for the sauce alone its worth buying a whisk in the poundshop!

keep on the heat until its all blended into a runny slightly thick white sauce

Take off the heat. add the finely greated cheese and whisk whisk whisk....until the cheese is melted into sauce. finely greated melts better and faster...less clumpy. season with herbs/black pepper if you want..

I never ever buy grated cheese anymore too easy to just go "ahh i'll add more cheese" to cheese.

Great thanks Lady - the whisking will be great for the arms, lol. You'll be fit to kill me but whats the PP in the sauce alone, no clue when it comes to pointing flour, the rest I'll work out . Sorry thanks.

its about 2pp per table spoon, the more flour you use, the thicker it will be. so depends how you like it.

the whole sauce makes about 270ml sauce for 11pp for whole recipe

For people looking for a white sauce recipe, i made a lasange last week and made my own white sauce too. But just heated up milk and added cronflour to thicken it, didnt bother with cheese, and you wud never know the difference in the lasagne. Jus a little way to save some pp so thought id share!
Def back on the ww wagon, feel so much better for it, went spinning this eve, was hard but feel so much better when i have exercised!
