Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Protein shakes and not working out

    If you were in a rush or just for handiness sake would you ever just take a protein shake?

    Everyone needs protein, even the couch potato...it's an efficient way to get protein in so why not?

    Because a general daily diet that has any bit of meat or lentils in it is more than enough.
    I wouldn't be a fan of random protein shakes, or even protein shakes for lighter work The idea that you can eat whatever amount of protein is false and unless you have a very very bad diet or have a condition that inhibits protein digestion, you should get enough protein through food.

    If they had porridge or cereal or toast for breakfast and a ham sandwich for lunch and didn't have time for dinner, then they wouldn't have had much protein at all that day
    A shake is going to have ~20g protein in it, it's not like they're adding 50-100+

    If it is good quality yes. But most shakes contain artificial sweeteners which make you hungry very quickly. That is okay if you want to gain mass but counterproductive if you want to lose weight.

    The quantity of sweeteners in a scoop of most shakes, e.g. MyProtein, isn't high enough to cause wiild changes in insulin.

    myprotein would be one of (if not the) cheapest places to get whey from and their breakdown is :

    Per 25g:
    Energy: 98.3Kcal
    Protein (as-is): 19.6g
    Fat: 1.7g
    Carbohydrates: 1.5g

    The mass gainers, on the other hand, would be absolutely laced with sweeteners/sugars.

    Would sometimes have one late in the evening when feeling peckish but too tired to make anything, does the job for me!

    Therefore protein shakes are a benefit here.
