When do the tickets go on sale for the double header in Croke Park on August 9th? Will they be available on ticketmaster or where is the best place to get them?

They are on sale through tickets.ie at the moment. I would imagine most clubs have already taken requests in.

On another note, the minors are playing Roscommon in the All Ireland Quarter Final this Saturday in Markievicz Park, Sligo. Throw in is at 3 and you can get tickets at the turnstile.

Roscommon bring fantastic support, and historically we do to. It would be great to see a big Donegal support for these lads this weekend.

In reality we all know the 'type' who'll be donning their new jerseys and cowboy hats ready for the big day out in Dublin having not been all year and who wouldn't go to this if it was on their doorstep.

    yea supervalue and centra also

i just got a couple yesterday and in the upper cusack near the goal, so must be selling well. wonder what the odds of a sell out are? all the teams on our side usually bring good support.

had been looking at the minor game alright, love Markievicz, was even trying to get a roscommon lad to go! think work and college may get the better of me unfortunately.

I'm flying in from the US in two weeks to see my first Donegal game in the flesh for 3 years (Dublin game 2011), timed the trip to perfection. Won't be a happy camper if a draw effs the whole thing up.

I'd read on here that if the Monaghan Kildare match ends in a draw our Q/F would go back a week, would be a double header with the last hurling S/F.

    Repeats?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,223 ✭✭✭overshoot

    Repeats?

no thankfully! Course just runs January to september, not fun balancing ft work in Donegal and part time college in Dublin though. Knew it would be tight going anyway and was one of the reasons for letting go of the season ticket. Just the one year of madness required!

should a match get postponed, how will that work with tickets i wonder. Id imagine, if affected, we would have to return ours in exchange for new ones to avoid doubling up of seats at the hurling. Then again if monaghan went out and the other match was a draw do both get postponed as an open draw may still be required? Still a lot of possibilities.

Aye, I was wondering when you said College in August alright. Brought back some dark memories. They didn't be long coming round from May!

Re: Tickets. Won't be an issue. They are barcoded and the original tickets should work.

i think i would prefer a repeat at this stage!

no i was just thinking the hurling tickets (i assume) are already on sale too, people would end up being allocated the same seats. unless they made the ground unreserved for a day

Sorry totally misread your post. good point, have they a precedent for that?

I'd be in favour of 'Shotgun' rules.

Cant see their logic for doing this. If either match ends up as a draw, both QF's would have to be put back a week so I'd imagine there'd just be a double header the following Saturday instead of squeezing one in before a hurling SF.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 43,311 ✭✭✭✭K-9

They'd probably just put back the Q/F that is affected.

Yeah sure there would be people with tickets for the same seats etc so a logistics issue no doubt.
I believe this is extremely poor planning by the GAA as the chances of a replay are quite high; if not this year then in the future if they plan to persist with this new pools system.
Alot of permutations mean (I think) both sames would have to be moved back a week and be a double header again (possibility of an open draw, seating, etc)
I really hope it doesn't as I'd hate to see the people travelling home miss out on the chance to see the team play.

I cannot see how they could do that if the open draw can still happen

True, they are leaving it tight so.

Could be way off the mark but I have earmarked Meath and Armagh to draw since the matches were finalised. Just cannot decide which will win. Very interesting then to see what happens but I'm praying a draw is not the case.

If you get a ticket for Donegal vs X are you allowed to stay and watch Dublin play Y? whatever about them, they are good to watch.

Only if we win. If we lose, you should be so sick that that thought of staying a minute longer in the stadium shouldn't enter your mind*

Disappointed that I won't make it to the Minor game in Sligo.

Hopefully someone will post up a report.

    Donegal are 2/9...

Hoping for a big support for the lads today. I'm working away so won't be getting but everyone else in our house is away up. They've been well reared!

McClenaghan is a doubt I think. I've been very impressed with him every time I've seen him.

The one thing also that's stood out is the keeper. He's excellent. We do seem to cough up a fair few goal chances and he's been equal to most of them. Armagh had some and even Antrim had a hatfull! That has to be qualified in relation to the scoring threat upfront though.

There's some really brilliant footballers on that squad, fingers crossed the get over the line today in is probably going to be a scrappy affair given the weather.

Better now. Oisin's not great but he is at least 1000000 times better than Comack.

It's interesting that Martin McHugh is co-commentator...

    Sounds like we're struggling.

Hard for kids to know what to do when there's a packed defence like what the Rossies are doing here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,333 ✭✭✭Redsoxfan

Seems Ros didn't set up like this in the Connacht Final so I guess it's a surprise to Declan and Co.

We have more wides than scores which is concerning.

Sounds like snapshots and desperation more than anything.

Wee bit of cuteness now will go down a treat. Recycle the ball, work your score.

I'm intrigued with how it sounds like Roscommon have set up. Be interesting [(C) MCM Liquers] to hear how the next 30 goes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,333 ✭✭✭Redsoxfan

Aye, I'd love to see it. Martin saying he's never seen anything like it!

    *Exhales.

Well that was uncomfortable! Doesn't matter now, fantastic result and the minors march on to Croke Park.

Now for the seniors to follow suit next week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,333 ✭✭✭Redsoxfan

Man, that sounded like it was much harder than it needed to be for Donegal. Still, good to go through to the semi final on 31 August. Hopefully the Seniors will be there on the same day.

    Donegal played just as defensively.

Just watchin Armagh-I know Im Mr Negative but they look decent in bad conditions. Could be tricky

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 43,311 ✭✭✭✭K-9

Could be an open draw yet. I think we'd have too much for Armagh but it would be a tough, physical battle. The ideal for us would be the Dubs getting Kildare and not getting tested again.

    Absolutely.

It'd be a nightmare if they got Monaghan.

    1) It'd be a good test for them going into a possible semi final with ourselves.
    2) If Monaghan beat them I'd hate to have them in a semi final!

They did not. Roscommon had their flashy new bus in the car park and their defensive bus parked on the field. 2 sweepers at all times and no one straying outside their 45. It was only during additional time in the 2nd half when they were ordered forward.

Donegal showed some inexperience and a worrying lack of guile. They persisted in trying to drive the ball right through the middle of the Ross defence rather than spreading the ball wide, switching the play and being patient.

Wet and miserable day in Sligo but a win is a win. Cian Mulligan impressive for Donegal. Lorcan Connor bottled up well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,333 ✭✭✭Redsoxfan

On the minors, the worrying thing is that in every game I have seen them play in, they have let the opposition back into the game, except maybe Antrim.

On the seniors, looking very likely there is going to be a draw for the quarter finals. Monaghan are looking even worse than they were in the Ulster Final.

The draw will be on RTE (radio) at around 5.30pm tomorrow (Sunday).

Colm Kelly at number 4 sounded to have a great game. MMH mentioned him in his summary. I mentioned him a few months back I saw him tie up Jigger in a championship game last summer and he looked impressive. Similarly, looked very good against Armagh.

I know it's only minors but I really do think there are more than a few on that squad who could make a significant contribution to the senior time in a few years.

So, Armagh then. Been a while......

usually all for the ulster teams, but for selfish reasons didnt want dublin to play a blanket defence before us.

i hope we batter them! i couldnt take another defeat on a big stage :(

It's two different teams and the noughties are a long time gone. But I really, really fúcking hate Armagh. I'm trying to be indifferent and mature about this but It's not happening.

Those two thugs on the line too.

A cricket score next week please Jim. If we lose I think I may actually self combust.

Yes. The match was a pitched battle but sure what do I know, I was only at the game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,223 ✭✭✭overshoot

yea my thoughts exactly.... monaghan may also be a bogey team for us but armagh just seemed to consistently do us at the big one.
the one time we did edge them tyrone thrashed us in the next game... almost made it worse!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,497 ✭✭✭ArnoldJRimmer

Delighted all is going ahead next weekend as planned. I know it will be tough, but I don't mind playing Armagh. We owe them one, and I reckon we'll have enough for them. It will be interesting to see if Monaghan end up feeling the effects of such a tough game today. Either way, I think Dublin will look after them easy enough

Aye. Funny though that your account (Donegal were just as defensive) is wholly different that the numerous people who I've spoken to since the game, the description in play, the subsequent media reporting etc etc.

    It's a strange one.
