Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi
We're travelling to Cork for the Brucie gig next week & like a pair of eejits have not organised accommodation, and (as you'd expect) the hotels seem to be booked up. I haven't been to Cork before, whats the public transport like down there? Are there towns outside/on the outskirts of the city which we could get a reasonably priced taxi or a bus to late at night? Or any suggestions of hotels with availability on 18th July?

Are ye staying the 17th?.He is playing on Thursday the 18th.Seems all hotels are booked out for that night including the three I gave you above.

Ye could stay in this hostel in Midleton(about 12 miles from city) for €18 each.Ye can get a train to/from Cork to Midleton after/before the gig or a taxi would cost around €30(one way).

    Hostel here.

if you were willing to stay in carrigaline (as suggested in one of the hotels listed above) then there is a very good b&b which i have used for guests who came over to us with work. its http://www.glenwoodguesthouse.com/ and the owners name is adrian and he is very helpful if you needed to sort out transport there and back.

No way would I stay as far out as Carrigaline. Plenty of closer options with availability for that night on booking.com. Id go to the Imperialm, Metropole, Issacs, Jurys or even the Rochestown Park Hotel (Not city centre but close to Douglas)

Carrigaline really isn't that far out. Its a 15/20 minute drive from the city and if needs must. Would be cheaper to get from carrigaline to the city than from a lot of other places outside of the city.

Try Blarney, lots of BnB's and 15mins from the city

If you search on a site like booking.com, you'll be able to check the availability at multiple hotels for the nights you want and you can also check the distance from the city center for individual hotels.

I've tried all the hotels & guesthouses named and they're all booked up! We're coming from Mayo so Carrigaline is the wrong side of the city for us really .. Blarney would be ideal but all booked up too :) Looks like we'll be staying on the dry and heading back up home again after the gig :)

I had been through all those websites but anything available was outside the city, and not being familiar with Cork my question was how easy it is to travel from outlying areas into and out of the city at night.

OH HELL NO!!! Only stay at the Shandon Bells if you really have no place else to go. I stayed there once. For one night only. The experience was horrific - didn't get a wink of sleep, and the place was FILTHY. The next day, I decamped to the Blarney Stone guest house across the road.

That's the reason why the Shandon Bells have rooms! ;)

Have you tried the Killarney B & B. It's across the road from the Shandon Bells. CALL them. Don't e-mail!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,411 ✭✭✭ABajaninCork

There's also B & B's at the bottom of Summerhill North (walking distance or a short taxi ride from the Marquee), and at the bottom of Cathedral Road, which also isn't far...I'll have a scout round.

We can. But it takes time to answer an e-mail, does it not? And you want rooms in a hurry don't you? It's FAR quicker to call, and you get an answer straight away....

Have yee any idea of any busses going down and going back up from Cork again after the concert? Anything would be much aprreciated :)

    Try air bnb
It is small scale rentals , so private rooms in peoples houses or small guesthouses
Never tried it in cork but have in other places and it can be good
There are a few spots showing up in the city
    For example
    https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/1278768

Saw him in Paris as cant make the Irish concerts due to work  anyway was eating near the George v hotel and came across a crowd waiting to see Bruce. We didn't stay as wanted to get to the queue but got me thinking as to what fancy hotels in cork and limerick might have mad fans to deal with this week. I doubt he will stay in his usual and helicopter it from Dublin. Any thoughts for the laugh?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,015 ✭✭✭Ludo

Fota? Or stay somewhere like adare and helicopter it to limerick and cork.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 855 ✭✭✭polydactyl

Paris one started at 730 as did others so I guess the same?

Are the seats in the covered stand in Cork as bad as the uncovered stand,i.e no legroom ?

Yes.Your chin will be resting on you knees.Absolute joke, unless they adjusted them in the last 12 months.

    Cheers ,I thought as much.
Shocking seats allright, last time I was at a match there I had to sit sideways at the end of the row and that was even uncomfortable.
Seats are like something designed for 10 year olds.
It was a wise decision to get standing tickets so .;)

Its a great venue acoustically, the bowl shape acts as a natural amphitheater so not all bad.

I've heard from some major Springsteen fans (i.e. ones that go to ALL his gigs when he comes to Ireland - and even the odd UK one) that they expect he'll start at around 7pm-7:30. Considering he can go for about 3 hours, this makes sense.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,657 ✭✭✭Milly33

Really that is very early for the gig. Fair deuce if he puts on a good show.. Culio should make it home in time before the madness starts make wonder down for a listen later

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,701 ✭✭✭Bacchus

I know, seems early to me too but 7:30 - 10:30 sounds about right... I imagine there is a cut off time of around 11pm for the gig. I'm aiming to get in at around 7 anyway, should be a nice sunny evening to chill out and have a drink :)

Is there going to be a "pit" for the early arrivals?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,701 ✭✭✭Bacchus

Was chatting to another Springsteen head at lunch there (going to all the Ireland gigs this year). He reckons 8pm start. I'm sticking with 7:30 to be on the safe side.

There's usually a pit at most gigs isn't there? Would be surprised if there wasn't for this.

8pm is a bit late no? I mean the gates are at 5pm so do people just hang around for 3 hours beforehand? That's if they want a good spot on the pitch I mean, you probably wouldnt show up that early if you had seats.

Yeah, personally I think 7:30 is more likely but I'm just going by what others, who go to a lot of his gigs, are saying. For all I know, he could start at 5:30 and go on a 5 hour session :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,015 ✭✭✭Ludo

Gates at 5 isn't it and due on stage at 7 officially. So probably 7.30ish. Wouldn't leave it until after 7 to enter though.

So excited for this. So so so much. Nebraska on repeat all day. 'Bout time we'd a gig like this again, good for the whole city.

I think I need to start selling camping spots in the garden!

They've got quite a few traffic restrictions-not letting residents through unless they have proof of address. Should be a good atmosphere though

Just wondering if any of ye know anything about parking or park and ride facilities? Lived in Cork for 4 years but never been to a concert in Páirc Uí Chaoimh and it's years since I've been to a match there so I don't know the area at all. Think I'll have to drive home (about 2 hours away!) after so just want to know where I can leave my auld jalopy safely during the concert!

    Thanks!

Don't know about Park and Ride but there is a special bus service from the city to the venue - goes from Lapps Quay - outside Connolly Hall presumably.

Buses running from 4 to 7pm - €2 for an adult single.
