Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Might shed some light on OnePlus .

"OnePlus was founded in December 2013 by Pete Lau, previously Vice President at OPPO."

Price is very good, the companies ethos is similar to HTC's which I can get behind. Will 've picking one up.

Seems good, but it's a software company crossing over to hardware so il sit back and watch how it develops.

Its actually not, they are former OPPO vice president and employees that have teamed up with CyanogenMod (Just like OPPO did)

There may be some bugs though

it seems to be their first handset anyway. its a serious price and is definitely winning me over the z2. ill wait for availability info before i make a decision though

Seems like a silly name for a phone.

If this delivers it has the potential to be an extremely disruptive device.

It says global LTE. Surely that means all frequencies for global coverage?

    This could be great!

I have to say, I think I'll end up buying one at those prices :D

That is one lovely looking device, and that spec for €299

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,215 ✭✭✭harney

I think some LTE bands are not supported for either Ireland or the UK. Let me see if I can find a link.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,215 ✭✭✭harney

    Supported bands
    LTE: Bands: 1/3/4/7/17/38/40
    http://www.androidcentral.com/oneplus-one-specs

It does not appear to support Eircom / Vodafone for LTE

    3 Ireland Ireland 3
    Eircom (Meteor & Emobile) 20
    Eircom (Meteor & Emobile) 3
    Vodafone Ireland Ireland 20

I'm in no hurry to change but this looks like it could be my next phone. I'll see how the early birds get on with it.

Going by the spec sheet, this has piqued my interest. How easy will it be to buy?
Were the Oppo phones easy to get here in Ireland?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 492 ✭✭The Cuban

Like all High spec chinese phones they will make very small numbers until the cost of the chipsets come down. It could be 6 months before youll be able to get this phone

The first lot will be available to buy by invite only, which I'm getting but I've no idea how that will work as they won't be for sale in Ireland. Will probably have to get it from the UK or Germany. No idea when either.

There is as already pointed out the issue with it not having band 20 but that shouldn't affect me on the Three network. I'm told you'll be able to send the phone off to the UK to have it modified for band 20 if you really want it. This should only affect the first run of phones and is expected to be fixed in the next.

Of course you always take a chance with a first run of phones that there's going to be bugs, hopefully there'll be no other hardware related ones.

How come Eircom have two separate LTE bands?

Some, if not all, of the bidders were awarded multiple bands. Vodafone do have licences for Bands 3 & 9 but have been getting 30 up and running first. Apparently they are starting to rollout band 3 next but don't know if they've started. I'm in the hunt for a new handset but don't want to leave Vodafone. Might just go for the Nexus 5 for now, could be waiting all year for this.

Love the look of the new one plus one phone! Just wondering if anyone knows, is it 4G ready and will it work with Irish networks when released?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,699 ✭✭✭advertsfox

Yup, we use 800, 900 and 1800 MHz here so it will work fine.

    2G Network GSM - 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
    3G Network HSDPA - 850 / 900 / 1700 / 1900 / 2100
    4G Network LTE - 700 / 1700 / 2600 / 2300 / 2100 / 1800

have had my eye on this for a while.
Looking forward to it being released.
I wonder if we will get it over here or have to order from UK or something.
If it delivers on what it promises it should be a cracking phone.

Definitely going to pick up one of these on the basis of this and other reviews. Glowing praise so far. If anyone gets an invite be sure to share here ;-)

You'll need to order it from the OnePlus site itself selecting the UK and using Parcel Motel for delivery to Ireland. This section of the site isn't set up yet and the first lots will require an invite.

First run of phones will NOT have band 20 which some carriers here use for 4G, so check that first. AFAIK it won't affect the Three network but may do some of the others.

Will see if I can arrange some invites for Boardsies, but don't hold me to it!

I think it won't support Vodafone on 4G, for the time being anyway.
Some good discussion on this thread about bands as well: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057195395

Been watching this phone release unfold closely in the hope of getting one when they finally start to ship them. Seems to tick all the right boxes.
I don't mind the invite system they are doing once it's not completely impossible to get them, which is my worry as demand seems really high!

Boards invites would be cool!! :-)

looks great. not willing to jump through hoops though. had enough of that with nexus 4 and 5. pity the 64 doesnt come in white. why would anyone order the 16?

16 is fine for me, I've lots of space left on my nexus 5, I mostly use the cloud

Was interested in this as it seems fantastic value but I think it'll be too big compared to my Nexus 5.

Unfortunately even if I can arrange some invites there would still be a few hoops to jump through. You can change the covers, there's some nice custom ones available and I'm sure more 3rd party ones will appear later. They are pushing production now more towards the 64 as they realise the demand for the 16 is low. Even if you think 16 will do you, I still think you should wait for the 64 as it will have a better re-sale value should you ever decide to sell it. Plus don't forget it can record up to 4K video which will take up a load of space!

Question! when these are available, will we be buying them from china? therefore liable for taxes and duties and whatnot?

I don't think so. I'd imagine they'll be delivered via a European warehouse to avoid additional charges.

I'm tempted to get rid of my Nexus 5 for this....

    Hmm....

Looks interesting alright, would like to see how it performs overall when its been out for a while. Not sure if I want to give up on the Nexus line just yet.

yeah, that doesnt really suit me. nothings confirmed though? i think the one plus will be half the price of those high end phones, and in fairness my nexus was creeping up in price. 350 sterling delivered.

No, the 32GB is €399 which works out at £325 sterling, Irish store is cheaper for both

yeah, i got the 32 on day of release. early adapter tax:D. great that they're finally selling them over here. it would suck if they stop the cheap nexus devices after we get the google store:mad:

its a good consolation that the likes of oneplus are selling phones like this though. it looks brilliant. i would buy one.
