Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'm sure you all know the format.

Person A asks a question, person B answers. If correct person then gets to ask the next question.

Questions should relate to the Junior Certificate exams and the syllabii.

    What is hardening and tempering?

What is the definition of "climate"?
Isn't 35 years the definition for this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,851 ✭✭✭PurpleFistMixer

The definition I have is "the average weather conditions over a large area of land calculated over 35 years".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,376 ✭✭✭Squirrel

Its not definately 35 years so I was advised to say a long period of time, it would probably be better to put e.g: 35 years, after it though

Actually the question was "what is hardening and tempering?" but I think nobody was answering because nobody does metalwork, or something...

Well, whatever it is, I know neither answer. Is something like that likely to come up?

Emigration - leaving your country to live in another.
Immigration - coming in to a country to live in it.

Or something along those lines. I don't think I have an actual definition, in fancy, definitive words, so that will have to suffice.

    Question:
Name a play you have studied...

What a curious question. I'll give it a go...

Atticus Finch, with his egalitarian views, is a steady rock for all those around him, a shelter from the prejudice and narrow-mindedness of the times.

From a writing point of view, that is not a good sentence whatsoever, but it has the desired points included, so meh.

    Question:
(since I got this for homework recently, everyone might as well share the pain)
Give three reasons why Hitler's actions and foreign policy lead to the outrbreak of World War 2.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 78,493 ✭✭✭✭Victor

Give three reasons why Hitler's actions and foreign policy lead to the outrbreak of World War 2.
    (i) The Anschluss (annexation) of Austria, redrawing of the border with Czechoslovakia and the invasion of Poland led the UK, France and Poland (the original Allies) to the conclusion that Hitler's demand would get greater and greater.

(ii) The UK and France felt threatened by the expansion of fascism, in Germany, Spain, Italy and it's empire and less so by communism.

(iii) The historical legacy (loss of life, cost, disruption, loss of prestige) of WWI - and for France the Franco-Prussian War - led the UK and France to believe Germany needed to be defeated conclusively.

Thats exothermic PFM. Though burning coal is a perfect example of an exothermic reaction

Not a reaction as there is not chemical change.

Vinegar + baking soda in endothermic.

Iron oxide + charcoal (carbon) + heat = Iron + Carbon dioxide
Name four(4) methods of dating artifacts found
    Erm, historical record?

do we actually have to know that for the JC? I thought the periodic table was in the maths tables.
Yes, but you are meant to know the first twenty anyway. Its handy to know the next 10.

    Learn it by rhyme:

    "Hydrogen, Helium.
    Lithium, Beryllium.
    Boron, Carbon.
    Nitrogen, Oxygen, Flourine and Neon.

    Sodium, Magnesium, Silicon, ....."

Gah. Even after all these years I can get most of the way, so ye should be able to get most of the way there.

    Actually its:

    "Hydrogen, Helium.
    Lithium, Beryllium.
    Boron, Carbon.
    Nitrogen, Oxygen, Flourine and Neon.

    Sodium, Magnesium.
    Aluminium, Silicon.
    Sulphur, Chlorine, Argon.

    Potassium, Calcium....."

Woah you get an option to do history?

And is that question in referring to the creation of Northern Ireland, older plantations kind of Act of Union things, or more recent history that I've not done yet?

United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland

The fundamental 3 steps in going from four countries to one.

OK under the "Acts of Union" passed in 1536 and 1543 Wales and England joined to form Britain, Scotland under the Act of Union 1707 joined to form [edit]the (United Kingdom of) [/edit] Great Britain. Ireland under the Act of Union 1800 joined to form the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland.

When a man and a woman love each other very much.... =p

Seriously, the man releases semen which contains sperm and seminal fluid. The sperm enters the egg and fertilises it in the fallopean tubes. From there it travels down to the uterus and is implanted on the uterus wall (hopefully) it grows for 9 months, then comes out.

That's about the JC standard, I think. Open to the floor, cba thinking of a question

Take your pick. Yes I cheated blatantly, but what does this question have to do with the JC syllabus? O.o
Also that word site is really interesting... I now know plenty of useless trivia to ramble about in whatever exam I have next.

Now then, I've been contrary enough. Time to do music theory homework.
And if anyway wants a question...
    Eh...
Name 3 features of glacial erosion. Now there's an easy one for you.

well its antidisestablishmentarianism for any1 who cares, people who are against people who are against government

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,880 ✭✭✭Raphael

Actually, antidisestablishmentarianism refers specifically to people who were opposed to the seperation of church from state in britain

Newton is the unit of force, it can also be expressed as kg m s^-2. I can only assume you're referring to it in terms of weight, in which case 1 N weight = 0.1 kg

    Define erosion
