guys the first rapid wasn't rapid either with 1.3 engine and 60 hp underneath

i think that word "rapid" appeals to the look of the car not the performance as most of us may think

the back may look awful but it reminds me the old rapid and i think this was the case for skoda engineers

Now that's a handsome car. I'm deadly serious.

Wasn't it real wheel drive as well? Looks like a mini Capri.

It was rear wheel drive, the engine's in the back.

The old Rapid was the working unemployed mans Porsche 911, actually pondered buying one briefly in the early 90s (also thought about a Citroen GS so I was clearly thinking outside the box back then).

    Horrific looking thing.

Looks like a late 90s hatch IMO. It's not bad until you get to the rear when it seems smaller than it should be.

Also, the picture from the rear looks altered. Either that or the rear wheel has been changed for a bigger/wider model. In saying that I would like to see an rs model. If. The pricing was right it could work as a cheap city rocket.

Judging on how much a flop the last model Astra saloon was, they shouldn't bother.

Lol, one of my uncles bought one. New one isn't as ugly, more like a shrunken Insignia:

Spotted a few days ago by a fellow Briskodian in Vienna

Definatley needs the boot filled with something heavy

I agree, the angle is a bit high.

But the boot lines are quite nice none the less.

I'm liking the silver on black logo also.

    That's an awful looking yoke

    Looks well imo.

That said the interior needs work as it looks more set to compete with the Polo and it's own Fabia as opposed to the Golf which a lot of magazines claim.

    Just another pile of meh.

Not really ugly just impossibly mind numbingly bland.

  • Registered Users Posts: 51,141 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

Just as VAG want a Skoda to be.

They are the new badges across the range. Not sure when they started/will start using them.
Hopefully my one will have them

    This forum has gone mad.
Why is there a 4 page thread about a boring midrange Skoda?
When the hell did Skoda get such a fan base?

Ugly car, just like the rest of them.
    (Octi VRS is so so)

An opinions like an arsehole, everybody's got one:rolleyes:

Would you prefer they stuck a different badge on it to make it more acceptable to speak of it?

If skoda were a band, it would be Cold Play, bland, boring, but really popular amongst thirty something slightly boring people.

    I take that back,
I have been informed that the badges are only available on the citigo.
They can be ordered seperate as well in self fitted.

I love Nissan but I'd never start a thread about the Tiida or the latest Qashqui.
Somethings just don't need to be talked about in such detail.

    Or am I missing something?

I started the thread and agree with you TBH:o!

Ran away with myself a bit...the new Rapid just looks a bit better than I was expecting and I like the direction Skoda are going. I'd consider a next generation Octavia VRs if it offered bang-for-buck of the current model with more modern looks. It could be great everyday car but not worth going on and on and on about no...

I reckon you'd get bang per buck but not looks:)

Speak for yourself. You are getting all worked up about a thread on a new skoda. Is there a problem with skoda developing a fanbase?

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,519 ✭✭✭John_Rambo

Of course not. It's brilliant marketing by Owens DDB that such a mundane brand can attract a fanbase. Did you go to the Cold Play concert? :pac:

Each to their own. I have no problem with skodas or fans of them for that matter. You were going to buy a skoda if I remember correctly so maybe you are a bit bland and boring as you put it :D.

Until I had a proper butchers and drove one!!

Edit; Actually, I forgot about the Yeti! They are pretty cool.
