Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Repair of an enterprise dingy

    Just acquired an enterprise dingy .three aspects of it need replacing, namely side plywood panelling at the front, batons that this panelling is fixed to and that piece of timber at the very front of the boat and which both side panels are joined to. Would appreciate infro on a good book, drawings , etc , which shows how to remove old wood and fabricate / join new stuff.

    Fergal, Tks for your helpful post. I have since googled everything to do with enterprise repairs . Dingy no is 22572. The woodwork around the bulkhead on the starboard side needs to be replaced and have the following questions before I start to do anything apart from having exposed a few points to inspect the extent of what needs repairing:-

    (1) ideal thickness of marine plywood to use

    (2) What type of timber to use for the two batons that go along side of hull

    (3)What type of timber to use to replace that timber at the very front of boat and which the plywood from both sides are glued to. This piece is straight for about one and half feet and curved for about one foot

    (4) is the timber in three above constructed from one piece timber or comprised from a number of pieces. The part of it which is bevelled so as to lay flat with the plywood sheets seems to be glued on to 3 above.

    (5) is epoxy the appropriate glue to use. What is current thinking? Saw somewhere that epoxy is not recommended if the boat is to be taken apart again in the future.

    (6) the most serious issue is where to scarf . All the timber pieces on the port side , ie two batons, two sheets plywood , need to be replaced back to the same point on the hull ie about 9in from the back wall of the sealed bulkhead. Would it be better to scatter the scarfing positions for each of the four joinings in order to increase the strength of the port side wall.

    (7) are there any plans / drawings available for the enterprise .

    In summary , if I can get answers to the above I expect to be in a position to ' 'go at it ' without having to be too much of a bother after that. Will post photos in a day or two. My son not available at the moment

    I don't know the enterprise but it might be worth your while sending Mr.Boots a PM http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056769959

    (1) At a guess I'd say it's 1/4 inch or 6mm.

    (2) Any of the hardwoods like iroko,oak, mahogany or teak will do.

    (3) Same as above.

    (4) Hard to tell without a photo.

    (5) I'd go with epoxy and hope you never have to take it apart again :)

    (6) If possable keep any joints back from the bow a where there is less stress or strain on it and you wont have to bend it. 1/4 will be hard to scarf but you can get away with just butting it together and use fibreglass or a pice of ply on the inside to give it strength, you can see how I did mine here on page 2 http://s753.photobucket.com/user/fergalbutler/library/crackerbox?sort=6&page=1&postlogin=true
