Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Im wondering if someone can help me out with my Galaxy S II.
A few months ago I replaced the stock (Meteor) ROM with a few different custom mods. At the moment I am using Neatrom ICS 4.03 . It's all working fine but I would like to be able to revert it back to the stock rom seeing as ICS is now available on Meteor and to have it working on Kies if I ever need to sell it.

I came across some Links to the meteor stock ROM and Kernel on XDA but all links are broken. So my question is does anyone know where I could get these files? Am I right in thinking it should be straight forward to downgrade using Odin, then upgrade to the new stock ICS?

    Any help would be appreciated.

I really should have backed up the original stock ROM shouldnt I? :D:o

    Go to this on sammobile
    http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&t=1&o=1&m=GT-I9100&r=1#regiona

    Download this:
    I9100XWLP7 4.0.3 2012 April I9100METLP4 Ireland (Meteor)

    OR
here's the download link I have taken from sammobile
    http://www.hotfile.com/dl/154150952/81e8a54/I9100XWLP7_I9100METLP4_MET.zip.html

Flash it using Odin and you are sorted.

Maybe download Better Battery Stats and see if that tells you what app is causing wakelocks/hogging CPU.

I read on other fora that there appears to be a bug in the ICS WiFi system that causes a reboot followed by a high power mode when switching WiFi on. Hard to detect as the first symptom is an unresponsive phone requiring that the battery is removed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,579 ✭✭✭BopNiblets

BTW BopNiblets you do know you could have escaped that Boot-loop without reflash:
When you edited your build.prop file it changed the file permissions from the default so it's stuck in a boot-loop. To fix it, you need to install the Android SDK including the "platform-tools" which will give you a handy command-line app called adb.exe. Once you have that you can connect your phone to your pc via a usb cable and send instructions to it.

To reset the file permissions to default you need to issue this from your command prompt/shell/terminal/whatever:-

    adb shell chmod 644 /system/build.prop

or you could just boot into recovery and select "fix permissions"
    Too late now! :p
I had ADB installed and I was copying the file over but I wasn't changing the permissions, I think I did try that Fix Permissions thing though, good find for next time.

Yeah thought I may have been a bit late with that :)

I eventually did get it working on stock ICS Samsung rom as I just wanted to see what it was like.

Seems very much like standard Voice Talk application that's already on my samsung with a little more interaction (i like the alarm and calendar function) though essentially it's just an updated V-Lingo.

Going to try out the other apps from the SIII that are now working later.
You can get them from here or the updated TouchWiz UX Launcher from here.

Hmm, something like that happened me twice in the last few months, brought my phone downstairs (weak signal upstairs) and it froze (presumably after switching to wifi) and lost a whack of battery.

I am having an issue with the volume for the SGS2 is too low. Up to now I had been fixing this manually by going into the service mode and updating the audio settings myself to 100. However, now, probably since the last software update (ICS), the audio menu [5] is blocked. Using key input doesn't help either.

Anyone know how to access this menu? The in-call volume is frustratingly low!

    Thanks!

Can I root a phone that's network locked? Or do I have to unlock first then root?

    Either or.
    Or both.

You can unlock your phone (after root) using this app
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.sgs2simunlockcode&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImV1LmNoYWluZmlyZS5zZ3Myc2ltdW5sb2NrY29kZSJd

Never used it as I never had to unlock so don't know how effective it is. It does have some good ratings though

I'm having a few problems with mine so sending it back to get it fixed under warranty, so obviously it will get factory reset. If I back everything up in Kies and just plug in the phone when it returns will everything be exactly as I left it eg upgrade to ICS, all contacts, apps etc?

    Cheers

Used that app on both S2's that I've had. Worked perfect on my Meteor one and had it unlocked within minutes. It failed to work on my Vodafone one though so theres no guarantee of it working.

Doesn't work with newer firmwares. So you could try going to www.samfirmware.com, install an old firmware via Odin, and then run unlocker.

I have a Galaxy s2 for nearly a year now. Just today the phone won't charge. I plugged it in and after a few mins I checked it and the phone was v hot. It is not charging. I turned it off, took out the battery and let it cool down for a bit. Put it back in and recharged. 10 mins later I turned on the phone and it had recharged to 12%. However, v quickly the charge went down again. I have now turned off the phone completely and am just going to let it charge for a good bit.
However, I am fearing that the battery is in trouble and I will have to replace it. Am I still under warranty? I am on bill pay and have the phone less than a year.
Will I be given a replacement galaxy while phone is being fixed?
I never had this problem before. Very occasionally when I would turn off and then on the phone it would have lost its charge completely.
    Anyone else have these problems??

    Thanks

I had exactly the same issue and asked the same question in this forum (I think) about 4 weeks ago. The solution I was given has worked for me, so give it a try.

Leave the phone on & allow it to run out of power completely on its own.

    Then recharge it.

    Good luck.

That's used to drive me crazy on another rom. I'd go for my phone 2 or 3 times a day and it used to be switched off by itself.

Yesterday I had 70%+ charge on my phone and rebooted it as it froze on me. When I switched it on there was only 14% left. Lots of bugs on ICS still I'm afraid.

Yeah that's exactly what is happening my phone. I seem to be getting an awful dose of it recently. Really annoying me.

For some reason my phone number is showing up as private when I ring people, didnt change anything on the phone, it was fine yesterday, but just today its ringing on private. I went into settings and made sure the "show number" option was selected and it was.

Anyone else have this problem?? And how do I fix it?

    Thanks a mill :)

If you don't like TouchWiz, just install another launcher (examples: launcherpro, Go launcher). No rooting or modding required.

For the last few weeks, my phone screen seems to be getting quite hot when browsing (even after a few mins) and can be around 36c... not sure if that's normal...

    Apex launcher is pretty rad.

Is it just me or does the low battery warning beep, then turn the screen on and keep it on?!
Whose stupid idea was it to keep the screen on?

Take it back to wherever you bought it. They'll sort it for you.
Only have mine a short while. See a good lot of 'faults' reported on this thread. Only want mine to get me to the end of November so I can get the SGS 3

Ever try ssLauncher?? Most customisable one I've ever come across. All the others are basically the same with a different feature here or there.
ssLauncher is totally different. Give it a try.

I was debating that, but I've cleaned the contacts on the port and that seems to have helped. I presume sending it back will take a few weeks and I'd rather not lose my phone

It's your dock at the bottom of your home screen, your home screens and your interface for adding things to your homescreen and a skin for your app drawer, mostly.

The major ones are Apex, Go Launcher, ADW, SSlauncher and there's a few others, including the default one with your S2.

    Hi all,
I'm having some problems with my SG2 lately first the corner of the screen went a blueish colour(got the screen replaced by fonfix) and now I find that the phone is freezing alot and I'm getting about half a day with a full charge of the battery.
The freezing and battery problems have only happened since I got the screen replaced it's on android 4.0.3 this is my first android phone so I'm not upto speed on all things android,:oI think the sg2 is the biz as I was a nokia man for years and took to the sg2 straight away is this the norm with the sg2 to lose battery power so fast?

Anyone notice that the volume button on the side since the ICS update just controls call volume and not notifications? Is there some setting to change this? Annoying when I take the phone out and leave it on a table and lower the volume, but when I get a notification it's still full volume!
I'm pretty sure before the update volume control did everything

There is a setting in the sound menu to use the same volume level for incoming calls and notifications, it was there in Gingerbread too, make sure it is checked if you want the rocket to turn down notifications too.

Having serious problems with my S2, right before I head to Dublin for Forbidden Fruit, great timing!

I was changing battery yesterday and I think I yanked one out while it was shutting down. Anyway when I turn on it won't get network coverage or detect SIM. I try another SIM and that didn't work either. Then I did *#06# for the IMEI and it was blank! I knew I was in trouble then.

Turns out from reading online I probably have a corrupt /efs partition which holds all IMEI info and if I don't have a backup I was bricked. Low and behold I came cross /efs backup on my SD from when I originally rooted the phone. But I can't copy the old efs to the phone no matter what, Root Explorer won't mount /efs as read/write no matter what I try.

Anyway I'm still reading on xda-developers here, trying to fix this. To anyone else I suggest you backup your /efs NOW with this free app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.hellcat.droiddev.ktool&hl=en

As you can see with me, corrupt efs can happen even with the stock ROM and without a backup, you're basically screwed.

I have an annoying bug. I'm on ICS (UK).
If my phone is ringing and before I answer it try to adjust the ringing volume using the volume slider, it mutes the sound. Doesn't matter if I try to increase or decrease the sound, it just mutes.

Is that normal? Anyone else have this issue?

Having an issue with my S2. When the phone is locked, it randomly seems to activate itself. The screen turns on showing the lockscreen, before the screen turns off again. It's really annoying as I can see it turn on and off all the time, and it is draining my battery.

    Anybody had this issue before?

P.S. It has done it 4 times in space of me writing this

I doubt that's a bug?! I can't see why anyone would want to adjust the volume of their phone ringing while it is ringing, unless they wanted to mute it as quickly as possible (maybe no matter what button they pressed even if it was in their pocket)

I imagine that what you describe is there by design

Can't test it at the moment, add no one ever calls me :-(

Thats a feature, not a bug as far as I am aware. I have seen it on many non android phones also

Is this the warning triangle you get when you flash a custom kernel? If that's what you mean you can use triangle away. It's an app by chainfire on the market. There is a free version on xda.
