Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

If its camos and character skins then fcuk that, somethat actually adds to the game like a more enchanced theatre mode or more maps and guns or something then fine

I think that the video rendering will allow voice overlays, addition of some music, and other things of that nature. I feel they are gonna try to appeal to the COD commentary community and make everyone think they can be huge like woody. I'd pay for that just to have something to play around with really.

I also think video rendering will go up to 14 mins or so, so that people can incorporate their own artsy theater mode. Basically, I think it's gonna be like a Sony Vegas lite suite on your xBox/PS3/PC that only works with COD.

The price of this "elite status" better be low and preferrably buyable using Microsoft points rather than credit card.

The only real downside I see for it so far, is the community, you are gonna have alot of whiney 12 year olds who think they are brilliant because they have the COD-Elite symbol. Just like the kids who think they are great when they glitch to high prestiges.

No the real downside to this will be Kotec sitting back and thinking "Well jeez, looks like they ARE willing to pay a subscription based model on COD"... que all further iterations of the franchise then being subscription based. All because tools wanted to show off on youtube to kids. Congratulations to them.

The ONLY way that this would benefit the consumer would be if it was set up on micro transactions - for instance everyone with full access to a theater mode BUT you pay to upload per clip. 50c per 10 min clip or so. That way childish muppets who want to upload to youtube out of some need for subscribers stemming from terrible self esteem can get the virtual pat on the back they crave and then normal folks who dont give a ****e but would find it nice to be able upload the one or two clips in a blue moon of something funny happening can.... and not have to pay a subscription for that sparse use.

Now do you think Kotec HASNT thought of that????? Of coarse they have but they are counting on the immaturity of the COD community to take over and will slap "elite" on anything they can and the kids will lap it up thinking it actually means a dam... elite = net profit for Activision.
They are counting on this immaturity for people to blindly buy into something month after month that they simply would not get the value out of and that the game SHOULD have included from the get go.

It says a lot about what activision think of you and me.... they go year after year not even updating the ****ing engine and barely changing the standard COD formula but now they are willing to try new things and add something extra..... for a monthly price on top. So in short they see having a game series that never really attempts to change or add anything as NORMAL and that making sequel after sequel suddenly then trying to add something new or adding to the standard formula somehow deserves a cash increase to them? Im sorry but I was under the belief that adding something new to each sequel was pretty much how EVERYTHING works from movies to games. No for Kotec though... standard artistic practices are just an opportunity to charge more from the customer.

    Normal folks thought=

Make a product that sells well...
Make a sequel so you should add more and evolve the initial concept to keep people interested.

    Koticks thoughts =

Now charge more for the privilege.

I agree, only promotes camping, it doesnt suit the style of the game

Speculation, and hopefully it will stay that way.

But if they're talking about creating more destructable environments would'nt that counter it somehow?

ah true, I forgot about that, will see sure, hopefully that may 23rd date is official

As highly as I distrust the concept (slowing the game down, not quite COD-like outside of campaign, lack of room for controls, a cover system in a game where cover is penetrable....), the third person mode in MW2 was pretty pants as it was missing a cover system. I would welcome a cover system if and only if it was available in select gamemodes.

thats a really good point, a 3rd person viewpoint doesnt work with 1st person controls, but give it Gears style cover and 3rd person control system and it would. be a cool way to introduce a few new modes without dicking with the mechanics of the game too much

I really must be the only one here or who I know who enjoyed 3rd person mode in MW2 :D

But yeah I agree that when it comes to 3rd person mode a cover system must be implemented. Many of the great 3rd person shooters of the past have it afterall. If the gametype were to return in MW3 hopefully it will be.

I just hope MW3 doesn't turns into some messy hybrid of a game consisting of MW2, Rainbow 6 and Battlefield.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,127 ✭✭✭✭Leeg17

I'd agree with Ade that if a cover system were to be included (and if destructible environment was not) that it should be confined to 3rd person.

I quite enjoyed 3rd person the times I did play it in Mw2, loved throwing a c4 that way.

I think they definitely need to introduce maybe 1-3 new gametypes. Keep the comp playlist and the merc playlists oh and mosh pit. I'm not asking for much :P

Take MW2, remove commando, DC and last/final stand, unstackable killstreaks, slap in the blackbird as one, remove heartbeat sensors, new maps, same sound, polish the graphics up a tad, update the menus, new callsigns and emblems, no tac inserion in FFA, finish the Makarov storyline in SP, boom=MW3.

its weird because cheap perks only encourage people to play badly, anyone can spam the sh1t out of the map with grenades, takes decent playing skill to get good scores by running and gunning and outplaying the other team.
You'd think they'd want people to learn how to play the game properly, and by now you'd think they've realised the COD community is full of assholes who just want cheap victories instead of working for it, the amount of boosters and OMA fools shows that (OMA is great when its used properly though)

think its fake but will have to see, least its a cover that doesnt have the standard blue/orange colour scheme that EVERYTHING has these days:

    heartbeat sensor..noooo!

hey you might know AGB,where would I get a cheap tactical vest, like an airsoft one? I wanna go as Ghost for Halloween this year, have the balaclava, a hoody that would be perfect, get some headphones, combat pants and the tac vest and it should look ok

still think the all white top is too plain, unless theres something spoilerish as an image that going to go in behind him, like the cover of MW2 with the Capitol Hill building in flames

could be, the States invades Russia as a backlash from MW2, they hinted at a WWIII take on things, could be the makings of it. roll on the 23rd!

ah but guys you have to admit that cover is awesome even if it is fake it would be awesome as the picture for MW3

Really? I mean its pretty much the same as mw2 cover with a different colour pallet? It doesnt represent anything about the game other than you play as a soldier? I cant see whats awesome about it?

Its just set to be as distinctive as possible (big contrast between white on black to catch your eye using the mw3 font then so that you can recognize its a MW game without even reading the title) - tis all simple marketing stuff which its grand for but I wouldnt consider it "awesome" ?

I would like to also comment on the rumoured box art.
It is interesting that the Call of Duty logo is so large on the box. Before the Infinity Ward incidents, there was a point where the CoD name was not even going to be on it, and that the MW logo itself was going to sell. Compare the size of the texts in the MW series and it seems to be going back and forth.

As for the B/W contrast, I hope it is done for the visual effect and not to tell us to brace ourselves for more snow maps.

I hope they sort out the interface in this and bring in party chat, a better player invitation system and game search options. It's just so far behind blackops' system it's prehistoric. Blackops isn't perfect as it takes ages to go from the multiplayer screen to online game type options, but in terms of easy usage it's streamlined better.

If they manage to get a smoother system in place with less of the things that ruin an otherwise enjoyable game.

    • noobtubes: should be either a perk or have their damage reduced or a suitable counter perk not equipment that further penalises a player like blast shield.
    • oma: just remove it or make it so it only replenished bullets
    • commando: sometimes it's irrelevant othertimes on a poorer connection, enemies walk through your bullets.
    • boosting: come down hard on anyone offering to do this. Warning then a week without message privileges. Next one is a month and you're docked a prestige.
    • Glitching: permanent kick from xbox live. Microsoft were right to ban how many people who hacked/manipulated the xbox before so the precedent is there to do it again.
    Perk selection
Made these up on the fly so I've no idea if these will work or if there is a weakness.
    Perk Tier 1
    • Bomb squad instead of OMA: like flak jacket, pro gives you the ability to see enemy equipment
    • Scavenger: pro gives you the ability to pick up any gun and for it to have full ammo (not noobtubes)
    • Bling:
    • Marathon:
    • Sleight of Hand:
    Perk Tier 2
    • Cold blooded:
    • Stopping power:
    • Ordnance instead of Danger Close: gives 2x noobtube, pro makes the grenades "detonate-able" in flight.
    • Hardline:
    • Lightweight:
    Perk Tier 3
    • Ninja:
    • Sitrep: No longer see explosives but pro gives a larger or detailed mini map or like tac mask pro, gives location of enemies hit with grenades.
    • Steady aim:
    • Scrambler:
    • Last stand:
    Killstreaks
Since blackops had the blackbird, I'd reckon they'll have some sort of satelite uplink in mw3. No nukes. Killstreaks kills don't count towards other killstreaks and can be sorted through and can be set up for individual classes.

    Deathstreaks
Painkiller is disgusting, if I put a full clip from a m4 or a scar into you then you should be dead.

Private games & alternative multiplayer campaign.
COD4 had arcade mode, bring it back for the campaign, MW2 had special ops, make it 4 player like zombies and give us loads of options for private games. Finally give us a multiplayer campaign, Halo did it and it's a laugh. You could set it up like gears of war so teammates revive you like last stand. Allow players to pick 2 other perks and away you go.

Keeping stopping power out = lots of coldblooded users. Theres always going to be one or 2 perks that are used by hte majority. I'd rather it be something like stopping power that doesnt frustrate a lot of people (Not that ghost anoys me).

I agree - keep stopping power out of the equation. If there are dedictated servers (please god let there be) then one fella's gun should be equal to the others.

Battlefield Bad Company 2 has dedicated servers and a stopping power analogue in magnum ammo. In that game it's also got a counter in ceramic armour. It's a powerful perk but it's equally powerful to all. Why shouldn't a .50 cal rip a hole in a human in one shot? A blast of shotgun buckshot likewise would incapacitate a combatant if not kill outright. You might complain about it but it's the truth.

In B:BC2 people bitched about it for being overpowered, overused and a COD clone but in COD it's effect is diluted whereby other powerful perks such as Cold blooded & Danger Close were negated in that you were sacrificing another very powerful perk. Juggernaught was hated in COD4 along with martydom but it made the game interesting as the perk combinations were key not the killstreaks which the later games have become focused on.

Snipers with it on were exposed to UAVs. So they're caught with either showing up on radar or losing out on greater likelihood of one-shot-kills. By having it in the same tier as other powerful perks it means that a silenced camper with cold blooded might not have as much of an advantage against a stopping power user even if they have the element of surprise.

The whole concept of dedicated servers is great providing there are no stupidly obvious gamebreaker perks like dangerclose/oma ripe for abuse. MW2 has a far better connection/hit detection system than blackops but black ops allows locale searches. Dedicated servers won't amount to much unless the rest of the game has been thoroughly play-tested.
