Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Will seriously have to think about not buying a COD game again.

    Its a shambles

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,090 ✭✭✭jill_valentine

Definitely won't be buying it on release. Will wait and see.

I don't think they'll ever strike the neat gameplay balances of the first MW again. Now that they feel like they have to keep adding new gimmicks and fireworks, they can't really go back to the lean mean lethality of each and every gun in that game.

please dont make a campaign mode its a waste of time and disc space, id love a poll on how many people even look forward to campaign mode and even bother complete it, i played like 3 levels of it in black ops its just a waste tbh, bring on multiplayer only with tonssss of maps in the place of outdated single player modes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,090 ✭✭✭jill_valentine

If you've not played the Campaign mode, particularly in COD4, you're kinda missing out. Subsequent entries have been a lot lazier about it, but they've still got some neat touches.

And yeah, I don't play online at all anymore, so no campaign mode, no interest. MP may be where the money is, but disregarding it completely is a concession to greed and laziness IMHO.

Thats crazy talk, MW1 and 2 have great campaigns, some of the most polished gameplay of any fps in places. granted its just one big firefight moving you to the next sequence where you have to defend someplace or use some new weapon but they're worth playing through, I enjoyed some of Black Ops, the Nam stuff in particular

I know everything points to MW3 but you know these mags will do anything for a sale so it could end up being something else like Dirt3, Next cod will be revealed at E3 for sure.

I'd expect a teaser soon, probably just the logo with the nightvision goggle sound effect like the others

You'd be surprised. Sure, it's where most of the interest is, and with Live subscriptions multiplayer packs etc. they're quite a moneyspinner for all concerned. However - if I'm looking at a game, and I hear that it's got either no singleplayer, or a SP that lasts all of five hours, it screams of "cashcow". I am less likely to look into the Multiplayer if I get a sense the developers can't see past all those juicy, juicy MS points.

Modern Warfare 2 wasn't the fastest selling title ever etc. purely on the basis of the multiplayer. That's a large part of it sure - and it's the bit people talk about for years afterwards - but for the initial release, the single player can be quite important, particularly bearing in mind that the first few weeks of any big MP release is usually a horrifyingly unusable mess.

There were a few moments in the Modern Warfare campaigns which are still considered pretty iconic in terms of modern games; that's not something you can really get from multiplayer-only games, and it is the stuff that lures somebody into a series or genre that wouldn't otherwise play it. If I were a developer, I would be reluctant to give up the value of those little signature scenes and characters to my brand.

Sounds like you are far more principled than I.

Sure, I'd love to be able to say that I won't buckle and buy it on those grounds, but the fact of the matter is I will :(

I hope they stick with the mw2 menu layout, found black ops confusing when I first started playing it - too clustered.

Game could be announced later today at Activision's Conference
With Activision Blizzard's financial results and its quarterly conference call due to be revealed in just a few hours, rumors are flying that there will be major announcements from the publisher concerning its popular Call of Duty shooter franchise as well as Blizzard's long awaited action-RPG sequel Diablo III.

The financial results for the first calendar quarter of 2011 are scheduled to be revealed just a few minutes after 4 pm Eastern time. Activision Blizzard's financial conference call is scheduled to be held at 4:30 pm Eastern time. Activision execs are expected to give an update on the publisher's release schedule for the rest of 2011 while Blizzard's CEO is also expected to give an update on their line up of future games.

Much of the talk concerns the Call of Duty shooter franchise. Activision is expected to officially announce the next major game in the series, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3, any day now and its possible that today's financial results could be an excuse to make that announcement. Eurogamer claims that they have already learned the release date for the game (November 8, 2011). We may also get an update on Beachhead Studios, the so far mysterious new internal game development team that Activision revealed in its last conference call three months ago. So far all we know is that the team is working on "the development of an innovative new digital platform and special services for our Call of Duty community."

As far as the Blizzard part of Activision Blizzard, the rumors are that Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime might finally reveal more info about Diablo III, specifically when the long awaited game will finally launch its closed beta test, allowing people outside of Blizzard to play the game. While it's likely that Blizzard will offer up some kind of Diablo III development update during the conference call it may just be wishful thinking by Blizzard fans if they expect a specific beta launch date. Diablo III's final release date is officially "when it's done" although Blizzard team members have said in previous interviews this year that the goal is to get the game completed and shipped before the end of 2011.

For MW3 I want a perk that allows to go into a room of campers and do this from the 30 second mark onwards

I've tried doing it with dual wielding scorpions but never quite works as well...

Loved MW2, disliked Black Ops. To say I am excited about this game is a rediculous understatement!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,951 ✭✭✭✭2smiggy

i did not dislike black ops, i find it fine really. but the lads i usually play with all traded it in and went back to mw2 and mw1 again. the most enjoyment i get is playing late at night with a few bottles and a few team games so not playing much black ops. (less again since the PSN went belly up)

i have high hopes for mw3 (or what ever it will be called) and battlefield 3 , plus with the PSN down i have finally started playing some games that i bought and only played for a few minutes.

the only problem i had with portal 2 is
there arent enough test chambers and too many bits where you're wandering around huge areas looking for the one wall you can portal onto, especially during the Cave Johnson segments.
that being said though I found it long enough where I didnt want it to end but wasnt at the "I just want to finish this now" feeling you get from some games.

It better not be that it gives you an advantage, stronger guns etc. Let the grizz wannabes buy extra camoes, personalised shít all they want. I don't wanna get mauled cos I'm not willing to cough up extra.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 470 ✭✭JoePie

I would be very surprised if that would be the case. Don't be silly.

Possibility of a monthly subscription to use dedicated servers? I would pay for that. I know Kotick was going on about sub fees last year for a while.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,207 ✭✭✭hightower1

"Moreover, it was confirmed that the new Call of Duty will be the first to offer players extra online options at a premium. "

I would safely bet that the extra service will include theater mode... technically its "new" to teh modern warefare serise so ca be seen as "extra" content. Seeing as that costs a fair bit in fiscal and bandwidth terms to maintain per user it'd be one of the first things they'd want to get on a subscription basis. Maybe dedicated servers if they are feeling nice.

Question is would I pay for dedicated servers? - Yup.
Would I pay for the ability to upload to youtube easily? -Nope, I dont give a **** who sees me play! I aint looking for "subscirbers" or fans, I play video games for a past time not to try and feed an ego for people who try to pass off a past time as some kind of skill or status of respect.

Cram it Activision. If it has the same features as MW2 out of the box that'll suit me grand.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,788 ✭✭✭✭krudler

I'd pay for dedicated servers as well, everyone on the same playing field would be great, no more of this host advantage sh1t.

theatre mode....ehh I dunno, if it has it in the game already then great, cos theres also something crazy that happens you wish you could see again but it would depend on how much it cost, a once off ting maybe, monthly fee? fcuk that

    lol.

I'd imagine it'll be like what valve did with portal 2, new char/gun skins / facepaints etc

I doubt that dedicated servers would be included, It would split the community too much. You wouldn't beable to play with friends on the dedicated servers unless they had it etc

But yeah.. i can see them charging for the use of theatre mode, this would be anoying... and i'd expect a big backlash tbh.

If it doesnt have some amazing features i can see this backfiring on them(more so if they take away things like theatre mode), especially with BF3 coming in all guns blazing at the same time.

Knowing Activision and what would appeal to the "leet" crowd we will defo know who has paid over the odds by way of some faggy clan tag / emblems / camos / skins.

Will be nice though to see one of them "leets" - snigger - :D running round thinking they are the dogs balls and getting buckshock spammed.

Definition of elite = qualatativly above the standard, better than the majority .

Definition of paying above the odds for the sake of badge of status = douche.

You know the type of player that will gobble this ****e up like a pronstar gobblin a mickey... teenager, thinks he is the top 10% in the world, usually the one talking about someones "mum" in the lobby, quits when is loosing etc. Ya know..... THAT guy.

If you were to step back and look at the development for Black Ops it is important to note that Bungie gave a large helping hand technology-wise in the new features that were implemented. Theatre mode, video rendering, detailed statistics and heatmaps, in game integration of the friends list and party chat, Fileshare and custom games are just a few of the new features which Halo Reach had under it's belt before the release of BOps.

If I were to make a reasonable guess at what the Elite service will provide, they would be based on what the Bungie Pro account does. Apllied to the Call of Duty series, I would expect to see:
    • Additional fileshare slots
    • Theatre mode post beta - video rendering larger than 30seconds
    • Better quality rendering

And I can see the potential for:
    • Greater character customisation
    • A larger selection of emblems and such
    • Extra class slots (not in favour of, and I think this was hinted before Black Ops)
    • Additional XP opportunities, either through more contracts-style challenges avalible, or just a bonus to XP earned (would not be in favour of)

That does sound interesting tbh, i really don't like the idea of a subscription based payment tho. It would be handy for those that don't have a HD PVR or a capture card. Maybe they could include like a map editor like you see with halo, that would be class...

It'd want to be soething very good on offer to sucker me into paying overthe odds but when i say good I mean extra weapons, maps etc which it wont be in a milllion years.

Aside from the appearing like a sucker in lobbies reason for not paying for "elite" I wouldnt buy it on the grounds that the greedy little trol faced Kotec will see it as a green light for full subscription based systems.

This is testing the water for the likes of him and I'm not going to give a freakin inch to it. Its not like games are cheap @ 60bucks then another 15for map packs?! Ancillery costs then of bb subscription per month, xbl subscription per month and yousee that someone with just a xbox who wants to play COD online ends up paying a massive amount for the pleasue.

Forget it Activision. Bog standard MW3 for me thanks.
