Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I dose myself with Lemsip and carry on as normal.

You mean taking a bite of turf doesnt cure it?

Keep yourself very well hydrated. Use paracetamol to manage your temperature and ibuprofen if you get a pain in your head. Pseudoephidrine is great for a clogged nose but may stop you sleeping.

Vitamin c, ecinachea, garlic are all bull**** and have been proven so. Don't waste your money.

Ask your pharmacist, describing your symptoms in detail and they'll point you in the right direction, referring you if required.

    Paracetamol & lemsip ???

There's paracetamol in lemsip already. If you're taking them together or in a short space of time its a paracetamol overdose. Its too much work on your liver and you may end up dying.

My post was not clear actually.
I don't actually take them everything together at the same time.
    Thanks for your advise.

I havent had a cold for years, but anytime I do feel the very start of something coming on I just drink hot water and lemon and it doesn't get a hold. Prevention is better than cure with these things, everyone always wants a magic cure once they are ill.

Sweat it out. Only works for some people mind, but for those who do it's a pancea.

I've had the cold/flu/cough that's going around for the passed 2 weeks.... nothing has worked- tried paracetamol, lemsip, cough bottles, flu tablets, vitamins.... and I still have it :-(

You know those words I've bolded aren't interchangeable terms right?

Day nurse and night nurse are my pharmaceuticals of choice. Day nurse if I've stuff to do. Its only covering up symptoms but gives an hour or 2 of relief to get me out of my self pity pit. Night nurse makes you sleepy but also decongests and suppresses cough. Again only covering up symptoms but I think getting a good unbroken nights sleep is half the battle of recovering quickly

Currently have the makings of a sore throat developing. Tried the honey and lemon Strepsils and they do sweet FA so I made up a proper hot drink of sliced lemon and a bigass dollop of squeezy honey in a mug of boiling water. Much more effective and tastier!
I also stocked up on Sudafed tablets as my sinuses were playing up and so far, I feel reasonably good.

If I have a really congested / blocked nose, i.e. if it feels like I have concrete up my nose, I find that Sudofed Nasal Spray is amazing. It instantly clears my nose. I find that pseudoephedrine tablets don't have any effect on me.

Currently have a cough and a bit of a cold. Mostly complaining about that fact, but I take the Panadol berry drink, and peach and raspberry Hall Soothers and have been snacking on lots of bananas and berries. Usually I can ward off the beginning of a cold and be fine, but it's completely got me this time :(

Also everytime I get a cold or the flu I get very melodramatic and always think "oh no, what it never leaves and I'll always feel this way" :p

Last cold I had which was 2 weeks ago I treated it like any cold I get a slice of lemon in hot water and that's it. And I always make sure my hands are always washed.

Climb Howth or Bray head as quickly as I can on foot. Sweat it out of me. Works 9 times out of 10.

paracetamol at first sign of a sniffle, antihistamine to dry up the snots, medicated mouth wash for the sore throat, more paracetamol as required. Its very important to buy the soft tissues for your nose, the ones with aloe vera are great, the ones with menthol vapors are extra nice too. Bed rest and keep very warm, warm enough to raise temperature to fever level. I love fevers, firstly they are excellently trippy but also they serve a purpose by encouraging your body to fight.

Lemsip and my inhaler at the first sign of a cold. The majority of the time, I end up with a chest infection and on antibiotics if I let a cold develop, so I start on the Lemsip or panadol at the first sign.

Haven't had even a sniffle since I quit smoking 6 weeks ago, though, so maybe my days of chest infections are behind me :)

I bitch and whine and moan and complain and analyse every twinge and cough and sneeze, occasionally try to convince myself it's much more serious, pop a few pills, get bored of all the self-obsession, then get over it. Same as most people really.

I went through two boxes of uniflu and it had no effect.

The boxes themselves don't have much an effect on colds

I've always believed in the adage that a cold is best fed, while a flu should be starved.

My partner is part Jewish, and knocks up a lovely hearty chicken soup. Mix that with a glass of Scotch, an early night, and a steam shower, and I'm usually on the way to recovery.

Curse the person dumb enough to hack their lungs out while walking by me, without covering their mouth, on one of the busiest streets in the country.

Once you've got a cold, there is pretty much nothing that is scientifically shown to help - just stay hydrated and let it take its course.
