Don't think either team will be particularly confident, but home advantage would probably have Ulster as slight favourites? What are the odds?

We'll see what sort of Ulster team shorn of all confidence limps onto the field first, but I would be surprised if we even got a LBP to be honest.

We'll announce a big signing on Wednesday, team announced on Thursday and then we'll be all fired up on Friday.

Yea, bilstons scenario is more likely. :(

I'm sure that your mate is trolling you...BUT... the nature of our set up leaves us open to that kind of accusation.

Did your mate happen to mention the 37-34 scoreline between Glasgow and Edinburgh at the weekend, in which Glasgow sauntered to a bonus point win to secure second spot, but then managed to gift two losing bonus points to Edinburgh with two tries in the last two minutes, thus lifting Edinburgh over Cardiff into seventh?

Ulster 5 and Leinster 2 would be the only way that would make any sense. Never going to happen though.

I'll be disappointed if Leinster don't win this given what's going on up in Ulster at the moment. It's a terrible shame how their season is falling apart all of a sudden - this year was an important one for them to win silverware I think and they may yet miss out on the playoffs.

I realise this is all hokum anyway, but does 7th position even matter? Treviso are getting the 7th spot in Europe.

No, but the Scots are mad for their national pride.

Definitely no Ferris or Wilson this week.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/rugby-union/27204592

"Ulster have indicated that forwards Stephen Ferris and Roger Wilson will see specialists this week ahead of the interprovincial derby with Leinster.
Wilson sustained a broken thumb in the Heineken Cup quarter-final defeat by Saracens, while Ferris's latest setback saw him injure an ankle in training.
Irish international Ferris is also having a knee problem assessed."

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,258 ✭✭✭✭Buer

I really don't know how Ferris keeps playing. A year out of the game and, after only 2 starts and 2 sub appearances, it looks like his season is over again.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 18,217 Mod ✭✭✭✭CatFromHue

    Black and Payne back.

Luke Fitz and Reddan trained this week too.

    Worrying for Ferris.

Worrying for Ulster that we have no Ferris or Wilson.

I see nothing positive going into this match for Ulster.

We need the win more and obviously it's the opening night of the ground but that will only get us so far.

    (15-9): R Andrew, A Trimble, J Payne, L Marshall, T Bowe, P Jackson, P Marshall; (1-8); T Court, R Herring, A Warwick, J Muller (captain), I Henderson, R Wilson, C Henry, N Williams; Replacements (16-23): N Annett, C Black, A Macklin, D Tuohy, S Doyle, M Heaney, J McKinney, D Cave.

I am unbelievably confused by this selection. Why not start Cave?

    Yep. Crazy stuff.

Warwick at tight head. FFS. Things can't get any worse.

    And where is Gilroy.

Who is our wing cover? Andrew?

I thought there was a chance that Payne may play 13 in this game presumably up against BOD.

Since this is shyt or bust for Ulster, why in the name of Darwin would you start Payne at 13 instead of 15, have Cave on the bench instead of 13 and what on Earth is going through the head of a coach that gives a loose head his second start....at tight head against a top class set of loose heads? It looks like one of McLaughlin's Ouija Board selections.

    It actually is incomprehensible.

Our best 13 is on the bench and our best 15 is being played out of position.

Warwick is likely to get marched backwards. What is Warwick - a LH or a TH? He covered LH against Glasgow!

We may just pray that there are no scrums at all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,808 ✭✭✭✭bilston

I'm not saying its the right call but maybe Anscombe is rewarding Andrew for good form. Cave hasn't been wonderful in the last couple of games I've seen. Either way the selections of Bowe and now Payne at 13 recently suggest DC is very much out of favour.

Still you pick your best team to give yourself the best chance and I don't think Anacombe has done that here. I don't think we have a hope in hell now.

Leinster will gladly take Cave. And as Rory is his best mate, will Rory support Leinster then? :D

Saw that, Ulster need just one point from two games to finish in the top 4. Fair Play Zebre !

Ha is that casual sexual harassment going on when the guy hops in the revolving door portion with your one?

Either I should start drink Harp, seemingly it gets you the ladies!

That's why it used to have scantily clad ladies on the cans.

Harp would be the ideal sponsor for Leinster, the colours match perfectly!

Trimble sweeps up the Ulster player of the season awards.

Muller, Jackson and McCloskey get the other significant male awards.

    All good choices.

    Why?

When PJ isn't around, the standard move is RP to 10 and PM to 9.

With IH back, I would think that we'll see IH to 10 and RP to remain at 9 just as it was before IH departed.

  • Administrators Posts: 54,090 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

Pienaar is wasted at 10, I actually hate the sight of him there.

Good to see iHumph back, gives us better cover at 10 than McKinney anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,076 ✭✭✭✭vienne86

Delighted for Ian - good move by Ulster, with Jackson going to be away with Ireland a lot until the end of 2015.

  • Registered Users Posts: 691 ✭✭✭$ausage$

Two years away he better have learnt to tackle! I don't agree with this, would far rather look to the future and nurture a 10 than take a step back. If he was not good enough 2 years ago why is he now. I just cant get away from the bring the bro home attitude.

This is not a signing that will win us games, surely no one can argue against that.

    Plus Hogg'ers can play 10 ;)

because he has lost the ego and is willing to be a backup.

McKinney has proved worthy of release so unless you move Olding or Marshall back to 10 then there is no real backup to Jackson.

If Jackson is (and I think he is) the second best 10 in the country Ulster will be missing him for a big chunk next season. There needs to be someone in as cover.

  • Registered Users Posts: 691 ✭✭✭$ausage$

In the whole of the ulster league there is no one who we can bring up? Jackson wasent that hot either when he first came about dont forget, and his first few irish calls.

Maybe Ego is gone but why would we take him back. would rather have someone else. God this just pisses me off.
The west got Muliaina! and who do we get London Irish's second string 10!? Come on do the math.

We have just had a shocking transfer period and I can not see room for more of this "quality"

  • Administrators Posts: 54,090 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

iHumph is about as good a second choice 10 as you can hope for.

Top players are not going to come to Ulster to sit on the bench. That's reality. And we are not going to sign someone so good that they displace Jackson - that will not be allowed and rightly so.
