Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

This is easily one of my top favourite youtube channels as of quite recently. Really cool behind the scenes type footage.

Is there some sort of cafe/eatery on the road between Bohernabreena and Ballinascorney specialising in cyclists?

I saw a few signs beckoning in cyclists for "meals for wheels".

Good news: My new bib shorts arrived today, same as the old ones that have served me well.
Bad news: I have lost weight so while they are the "right" size, they are also not the "right" size. Height wise they are the right length, the size below are too short. Damn you generic sizing.

    Solution: Put on weight.

    Overall good news.

Had my first big spill off the bike today. Some idiot walked his bike out from the pavement and placed it side on into the cycle lane, I hit him at about 30 km/h. Went to A&E but luckily nothing is broken - still, this might put me out of the evil 200.
    Damn ;)

    Got a smack of a car (again) yesterday. My doctors solutions were;
Wear something bright and find a different way to get to work and definitely don't cycle through the Walkinstown roundabout anymore (it didn't even happen on the roundabout  )

This was 20 past 8 in the morning. Am I invisible in a black top in broad daylight on a big bike?

People will always not look or miss you, I would always look at what you could have done to spot their mistake and avoid the accident. I ride my bike as if i cant be seen, always assume people will put out in front of you etc.

Ah yeah thats how I do it. I expect something to happen every time I go out on the bike. Accidents are narrowly avoided every time. But come on, she was coming from the opposite direction and turning right, she had to drive through me to get to where she wanted to go. She had to look to where I was before moving.

A lot of drivers have a peculiar set of filters somewhere between their eyes and their brains. Unfortunately for cyclists, these are shaped like cars, buses and trucks. The only sure way of bypassing these filters is to establish eye contact with the driver while still being ready to brake hard. Unfortunately for RacoonQueen, this is easier done when the driver is pulling out from a side road!

Ditto, had to come in 6 hours early today. No ICL for me either and it looked nice and damp, ie point scoring country.

Does anyone know what the surface in the Corkagh cycle track park is made of? It's absolutely jaw dropping, even when a bit wet I was striking pedals in the corners and it felt like there is tons more grip. Even picking absolutely stupid lines makes for no drama whatsover.

My wife noted yesterday that she has Strava QoM's on a bunch of local roads, and a QoM on one particular stretch of road will link a number of them together. Finally my childhood ambition will be fulfilled - we'll build a small red hotel somewhere along one of the roads and charge people every time they pass by.

Quiet down there, there'll be no defiance unless I say there can be defiance ...in which case it wouldn't then be defiance and therefore I declare defiance extinct. Wow, power rocks!

I took my second bike (Ridley) out for a spin today. Coming down from Howth I could hear/feel a few unwelcome noises. Took it a bit handier to the bottom and noticed a few mm's of "play" in the fork/headset. When I got home I took it apart and reassembled it but the "play" is still there.

Would this be considered a serious matter or is there an easy solution to it? Thanks.

(PS - was I foolish to continue the descent and 80k ride?)

Got blanked by three cyclists who were each a few minutes apart on a relatively quiet road this morning (think they were from the same club but I've no idea why they were evenly spaced out). I was a little bemused until I got home and realised that I'd omitted to remove my raceblades before setting out, therefore breaking one of the sacred rules and am now officially a fred....

    2 things could be wrong.
Thing 1: Headset is cacked and will need replacing.

Thing 2: The whole set up had become loose (it happens..) and when you re-assembled it wasnt tight enough.

If you reassembed it properly and you are still getting rocking then the bearings are cooked.

I sorted it this morning after a brainwave! It was embarassingly easy. :o Looks like someone in my LBS tightened the stem prior to tightening the top compression bolt. It's fine now. Thanks.

Started following these guys on Facebook. Just saw the new jersey design (which personally I think sends out the wrong message...cyclists as mobile hazard signs? "Warning, cyclist here!") but some of the comments were odd. How can you expect to get equality and consideration between road users when you say things like "dark jerseys have no place on open public roads"? Again it is almost like placing the fault of a crash for not making the cyclist be as visible as a traffic cone, and any accident is surely the fault of the cyclist not bringing themselves to the attention of passing motorists and not through a lapse in their concentration.

    Poor, very poor.

I have dark jerseys. I find being lit at night, not cycling like a loon and signalling my attentions either directly or through assertive road positioning is all I need. Not dressing up like a hazardous bend sign.
