Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I have that exact same TV stand in black. Planning on moving it though, it just takes up too much room where it is unfortunately:( I'll be sure to post a picture of my own setup when I upgrade to some surround sound.

Recently moved into my new house and inspired by other members setup's, I decided to set it up for AV, Audio and networking. I got the builder to run cat6 to every room, speaker cable for ceiling speakers which I plan to use for Multiroom Audio and Coax.

Everything is run back to a central location where I have a cabinet and patch panels. Some of the runs are short enough for hdmi-hdmi, where they're longer, I'll do it over cat6 with hdmi-cat6 baluns.

The builder had no experience of this so I pretty much planned it out but inevitably when I moved in, realised I put some of the cables in wrong locations. Overall though, I was pretty happy with the results.

I have a couple of MC's which I will use to play my media library using xbmc and going to use casatunes pci card with amp and wall controllers and iphone to control the multiroom audio.

Some pics below of my setup, all comments/suggestions welcome.

I've edited your post to remove the embedded pictures - these files are too large and are disrupting the loading of the page on the forum. I've left the links in place with a suitable warning so that people can click them if they want.

    HiYa oc8,
Just about to do the same, running a mac / media player and dvd, sat, tv etc. Thinking of the CAT 6 route with baluns do you have any tips? Do the baluns drop the quality versus a direct connection, did you do HDMI to cat 6 to HDMI or HDMI with repeaters?

    Thanks for any advice.

    tweeky,

This thread is really just for showing pictures etc, it's not fair to others to turn into a specific discussion - feel free to start a separate thread looking for advice about your query, there a re a number of threads about multi-room about which might help you.

    Thanks,

    Ritz,

Could you link threads as it's hard to find an Irish forum/thread that deals with all this, the forums are usually uk/us centic.

    Cheers

Only came across this thread looking for ideas for our new setup.

Heres the setup as it is now:

    DSC03704.jpg

    DSC03709.jpg

    Samsung UE46B600
    Sky HD
Pioneer VSX-D814 Receiver - Runs Wharfedale centre, JBL fronts and woofer and philips rears.
Pioneer DV-868AVi HDMI SD DVD player
Joytech Control Center 540C (only used as ethernet switch and optical switch)
    Xbox Super Elite + HD-DVD (i know, i know!)
PS3 160gb (+PS2 wired up in the drawer)
    Wii + 120gb HDD w/USB loader

The Sky box runs to a HDMI splitter to the bedroom but i'm adding a 4x2 matrix in the coming days along with our new units. All the other hardware works well so they aren't changing.

Just have this lot to work through now thanks to IKEA! Updated pics soon

    oc8,

I'm a little puzzled by your request, as there are currently three or four threads about multi-room on the front page of this forum (i.e. the Home Entertainment DIY forum). If you have a particular query which is not presently being discussed or you wish to give a detailed account of your own set up as a helpful gesture to other users, you'd be most welcome to open a new thread of your own in this (i.e. the DIY) forum.

    Cheers,

    Ritz.

    Hi guys,

Mounted my 50inch Samsung tv on the wall over the weekend and put in background lighting behind the tv. It looks much better in the flesh than in the photos. Also connected up my Sony 5.1 system which is on a shelf to the left of the tv.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 79 ✭✭Hifi Keith

Looks cool but I'm not sure I get the whole lighting behind the TV thing, think its awful on the ambilight tv's and not something I'd be recreating. Seen it on a drop down projector box and worked well though.

    Nice work though

  • Registered Users Posts: 317 ✭✭RTT

Ah its just something I messed around with, can always take them off. Its actually easier on the eyes when watching the tv in the dark. More of a novelty factor really though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 79 ✭✭Hifi Keith

Was going to ask about that alright, looks cool anyway so worth doing.

Had lighting all around my room in a hotel like that recently, was similar to a lutron system but less complex

Thanks, well the couch is 3 metres away from the tv so its grand when we're sitting down.

Nice job RTT. Where did you get the backlighting and how much do they cost? was looking at maybe doing something like this in the next few weeks. Thanks.

  • Registered Users Posts: 317 ✭✭RTT

Thanks opengoal. I bought the lights in Ikea. They are called dioder and I bought two sets of them. Heres the link. http://www.ikea.com/ie/en/catalog/products/30119408

I know they seem pricey but I think its worth it. I joined two sets together. One long strip of four along the top of the tv and joined two down either side. I also bought one of those remote control sockets to plug the lights into so I can turn them off without reaching in behind the tv. http://www.buy4now.ie/woodiesdiy/productdetail.aspx?pid=10597&loc=P&catid=7.12
They were handy for the Christmas lights too!

Wow, nice set up! You'd swear it was the control centre for some cctv company with all the screens! Is that 3 Xboxes you have there? And a ps3?

  • Registered Users Posts: 144 ✭✭Ricochet69

Thanks, yep well in total we have 4 xbox (if you dont include the 2 bricks holding the table up). Also have a pool table and darts in the other room. All we need is a bar in the corner and we will never need to go out again. Im living with 3 other lads so its a shared investment. MGS4 on the 55" screen in surround sound is savage.

  • Registered Users Posts: 144 ✭✭Ricochet69

BTW guys if you want to run media off your pc and have it hooked up to a tv i recommend XBMC. im currently using it to get all my media off our 4 TB nas and my god it is some lovely piece of software, also the new version can be put on apple tv/ipod/ipad if your an apple fanboy that is. :D

I see ye have the proper Rock Band drums too, nice! What speakers and amp are you using?

And why so many tellies? Why not just buy one top of the line one instead?

Well each of us own a tv and xbox before we moved in and its great for big lans of halo. The main reason was for playing Battlefield bad company 2 (only allows one person per console)

either way if someone wants to game and everyone else wants to watch tv there isnt any conflicts :P

yep gots me some real electronic drums and put the midi out to guitar hero drums to allow me to play them on the xbox.

boston sub, the rest of the speakers are just ones i got with the tv and other ones i picked up (need to get some good new ones) The amp is a ONKYO 7.1 its a lovely amp.

Sure that 55" Sony is really good i dont think i could get much better without going LED and your talking 3k plus for a good one that size

Correct me if im wrong but apple tv will not play AVI files, and most movies are downloaded in this file type.

I wanna pick up a apple tv myself to use as a source in my multiroom av system.
