The Belfast train doesn't stop at Malahide, closest stop to Dublin is Drogheda

Journey planner suggests getting off at Drogheda onto a suburban train, and then changing again onto the DART at Malahide or Howth Junction. Which is nowhere close to the best route.

Well it is the shortest distance 'as the crow flies' to be fair but yes it is a horrible route to be suggesting time wise.

Not really, there is only 13 minutes in the difference. It makes more sense to stay till Dublin and the back one stop even if it means buying another ticket.

Is there ever a situation where the Belfast to Clontarf Road ticket is ever cheaper than the Belfast to Connolly ticket?

    No.
