Eh, firstly its not all vocals for Westlife, they had a full band backing them up, plus support acts, ok not the same as RHCP but hardly just vocals.

Secondly, they finished at 22.35 even though they could play until 11. Don't dismiss something as cack just because you don't agree with it, my statement was made on the basis of being informed of this by the event controller and Gardai, an escort was arranged for them as their flight was scheduled to leave from Dublin Airport.

You said Westlife went on past 11, that's what I said was cack because it's not true. And if it was then there would be consequences, like I said above. :) As for the flight thing, do you really think they'd book a flight in such a rush after the gig?

Flea also tweeted at around 3 in the morning saying some drunken idiot set off the fire alarm in his hotel. So either they got on the flight fairly swifty and got to the hotel in the country they were going to extremely quick or else they stayed in Dublin for the night. They definitely stayed in Dublin because, in what other country would you find some drunken idiot who sets off a hotel alarm at 3 in the morning? :pac:

Westlife finished at 11.05 on Friday and 11.20 on Saturday. Who says there wont be consequences. I pointed out RHCP finished 25 minutes before they had to.

As for the flight, maybe they changed plans, I stated what I was told. Anyway this is truely pointless. It was a bad gig, end of.

Was there last night . noel G was ok but a bit boring for most of it. peppers are legend. pity there was nearly 50 minutes in between noel and them. thought the sound was off myself. was out of sync with the big screens which fans were singing too, Anthony live was a few words ahead by sound over the picture . great to see Chad banging out Sunday bloody Sunday. Message for the wee ones , When you want a band to do one more shout out we want more or one more tune NOT FECKING OLE OLE OLE or WERE ALL PART OF JACKIES ARMY!
all in all was a good gig. But these boys need a park to play with no time limit etc. was a bit of a nanny concert. stewards were mostly highly strung.
    GO ON THE PEPPERS
ha there was a bunch of goons behind me trying to get fields of bloody athenry going..."cmon ...we're great lads"

who were the birds from cork that were standing on the pitch? you guys were great craic if you see this :p (guy with straw hat) excellent gig, shame they didnt play scar tissue!!should have played snow aswell!! was a great gig all the same!!

So, this was my 6th Chilis gig and 2nd on the I'm With You tour. I agree, they seem to have lost a slight bit of spark. I think the gig should be at least 2 hours with the amount of decent songs they have behind them. And I was seriously disappointed with the encore and final jam. Manchester in November the Jam went on way longer and was much better. They also seem to leave out one or two of their biggest hits on this tour. I wasn't impressed with no Scar tissue and Tell me Baby

BUT BUT BUT.... I am pregnant and I wanted to get into the back of the pit so I could be close to stage without getting squashed. Then I realised the left side of the stage was practically empty with empty toilets a short walk!

When we ventured into the tunnel for the toilets I spotted a man cycling towards us and wondered how the hell he got in with that cos they took my camping chair off me! Then I let out a scream (cos im so cool) and it was Flea with his 6 year old sitting on the back.:D:D:D He smiled, she laughed and we froze, as they glided past us. He cycled around for ages and we got a few pics then he went back into VIPS. The security guards were pissing themselves cos he got lost.

Needless to say it made my night... and my god knows how many years of being a huge fan and I finally (almost) met a pepper! :D

Did anyone else think they looked almost uninterested? Especially Anthony?

Thats pretty much his general demeanor, worst frontman for a big band ive seen hands down, ive never seen a frontman care less about performing for an audience,i have to wonder why he bothers since he doesnt need the money and doesnt appear to have any interest in playing anymore

I still love some of the old records though, namely "By The Way",id nearly go to see them again if they played "Dosed"

when did will ferrel start playing drums for RHCP ??? :D

    Chad Smith is his double.

if a RHCP movie is ever made i think Chads role is sorted

They would have got a great reaction from the crowd if they played this anyway, judging by the amount of times i heard people chanting it in between songs... http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=DZB1senl6eE

    savage gig i thought, btw

Savage gig? Jesus I didn't think that! Maybe you were in a sweet spot for good sound! For me, it was without doubt THE worst sounding gig I have ever been to

I think the sound was worst on the pitch from what I can gather
I was in the lower Hogan and it was grand there

Croke Park and also Aviva are never great when it comes to sound

The Chillis seem to have been phoning in performances for a bit now, not surprised this concert bombed. Horrible venue for a concert.

The sound at outdoor Irish gigs is generally muck

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,467 ✭✭✭Oasis_Dublin

The gig was ok. Noel was his usual excellent self and The Vaccines put on a good show, even despite the lack of atmosphere in the crowd. The headliners were grand but I wouldn't class them anywhere near as good as some of the big acts I've seen over the last few years.

Are they set to make more music? Will we ever see them in Dublin again?

enjoyed the gig but set list could have been far better, like come on no scar tissue,no snow,no zephyre song? enjoyed it but would have liked to hear some more songs, they could have stayed on for longer to be honest, and sound wasnt the best either particularly vocals and guitar

Apparently Josh was only learning to play zephyr and snow recently. I think the next show after dublin he played snow, so he must know it now.

This comment made me LOL :D

I've been following the Chilis for a loooong time now, cant remember the number of concerts I've seen them at now. This one was prolly near the bottom of the list. Sound wasn't great at all, it was similar to how the gig in the O2 started off, but at least the sound techs in the O2 corrected that after 3 or 4 songs. Slightly disappointed with the setlist, but they were never going to play the really old stuff, or much off BSSM (would have loved Sirpsychosexy! ;))

Most of the crowd around me (up near barrier to beginning of pit) didnt appear to know Higher Ground or Suck my Kiss. Kinda annoyed me because there was a great atmosphere during most of the other songs.

All said, it wasn't a brutally bad gig. Sound not great but that was what was expected in Croke Park. Wish they would play Slane again some day, great sound in there. Josh is getting up to speed, he's no JF but the band like him so that's good enough for me. Flea is still a DEMON bass player

Yeah was waiting for Sir Psycho Sexy, thought it was going to be after the encore. Usually they play 3 songs and then the Outro Jam but was only 2 :( But I'm glad they play Suck My Kiss. As much as I like Josh, I don't think the band will ever be the way it was with John. For me Frusciante made the band, flea is unbelievable, same goes for chad but anthony used to be like that. Recently its like he isn't bothered. Bring back the BSSM days :(

Yeah I was up near myself to the stage(so close that i couldn't see most of chads drum kit :P) In fairness I made it a priority to get as close to the stage after hearing comments about the poor sound in croker. Was almost sure they were gonna play Sir Psycho(best song off BSSM imo!) but still jumped around like crazy for Around The World, Higher Ground & Suck My Kiss. It still boggles the mind how a band as old as the Chilis still have a young fanbase. Was in the pit and felt very old very fast(and i'm only 23! :D)

Well yeah im only a casual fan,i only know them from BSSM on,always thought "By The Way" was their only start to finish consistent album,i got BSSM on the strength of "Under the Bridge" and "Give It Away" at the time, thought most of the rest of it was crap tbh.....and their recent output? ha ha you dont want to know;)

    *Ducks and runs*

P.S for what its worth i have a buddy who used to go see them regularly back in the 80s when they were playing clubs in the states, said they were amazing(he wont go anymore though)

Just came across this thread. Was at the show in the SFX in 1992 (aul' fella alert!). Amazing. Henry Rollins supported, plus whipping boy (may be wrong on whipping boy?). Hole though it is/was, its the perfect sized hall for RHCP.

Does it make sense to say they are too successful for their own good? The energy on stage was obvious, but didn't seem to translate beyond the stage. A great band, but maybe not an arena band?

    Just my musings....

the setlist they did in holland just after croker was much better: http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/red-hot-chili-peppers/2012/goffertpark-nijmegen-netherlands-3df79c7.html

    so annoying

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,071 ✭✭✭TheStook

Did anyone else notice the amount of people sitting in the higher stand at the very far corner of the stadium? Like surely they would have just walked down nearer to the stage and sat there, the seating area was empty for the most part, I looked up like halfway during the concert and it surprised the hell outta me

In case anyone is interested the recording of the gig is now available over on the Chili Peppers site (for 9 dollars) :)

    http://livechilipeppers.com/

No sound issues at all in the recording, the mix has been sorted out too (plenty more of Josh's guitar) so well worth the download.
