Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Just back from Turkey, didn't do much running, but when I did it was hilly and hot...and sometimes dusty. With some snakes.

Photos of snakes.... or it didn't happen...

Here's mine.. Nearly ran over this little fella, asleep in the middle of a trail in California. Harmless apparently, but I didn't know that, so had to turn back.

Just back from a bit of a holiday in Germany, bit warmer than here as was over 30C some of the days so was glad of tree covered hills around my friends place.

Came from over there, note the well placed beer garden mid-run but needless to say didn't partake :)

To the far left at the top of the lake the hotel I got married in last year.
To the far right at the bottom of the hill the hotel that I left the wife and child in as I went for a run up a hill.
To the far right behind the hotel the hill that I decided it would be a good workout to push a buggy up the day before. It was tough, and I was glad of the hand brake on the way back down. :D

Posted this on my log and meant to post it here previously also. It is the Godwin Swift Mausoleum located in Castlerickard Co Meath and is the second biggest pyramid in Ireland behind the one located in Kilbride Co Wicklow. It stands 18-20 feet off the ground and is made from huge granite blocks stacked diagonally. Not my photo though but I pass it once a week while out on my long run:

    SJ, you are a cruel b*stard :D

That's very different from the relatively tame first race in Annagh a few years back

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 27,833 ✭✭✭✭ThisRegard

The very first race from what I can remember was pretty tough too, it had its own a wall, albeit not as long as last week but pretty vertical. And there was a great descent back to the finish through some felled trees, I think Enduro manage to break something at that point too.

I can confirm that the first Annagh hill race was pretty hard-core! I remember being driven to the start by a fellow runner and seeing "the wall" of the first climb for the first time, and both thinking "oh sheeeyite". The first 2 Annagh hill races were my favourite ever IMRA races. And yes, broken leg on the first one.

2011 and 2012 both went up along the same wall in the photo. There was a lot more trees to the right of the wall at the time, as well as a grassy ridge run and some thick forest along the top (alas since felled). Return was via fireroad (for the views to Lug- always obscured in the mist!) and back down the same zig-zags in the photo- there's a bright green dot in the centre of the photo above which roughly marks "Enduro Falls" (sorry Eoin!).

2013 was a short 5km race up that stone wall, out and back along the ridge, and back for the best downhill finish I've ever seen in a race. Four lads hit the gate at the top of the hill at the same time, and raced a furious downhill along the wall, all picking separate paths, with a determined Bernard just outsprinting Jason, Brian, and Adrian to the finish. 10secs separated all four by the end, very exciting to watch!

Mick's 2016 course had a new steeper killer climb on the far side of the hill too- there's always something new and unique to offer on this small but perfectly formed hill :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,724 ✭✭✭Enduro

And here's the "Then" picture of my Gandalf impression whilst trying to get down the hill with a broken leg (which I didn't realise at the time, of course), before the high speed ambulance (The podium lads) came back up to carry me off.

I thought it might have been the same climb but I wasn't sure as looking at the recent pics I couldn't fit it with my memory of how it was when the trees were there.
