Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

M17/M18 - Gort to Tuam [open to traffic]

Drove through Tuam tonight heading towards Galway, noticed how poorly lit the roadworks are where the M17 ends and meets the N17, really struggled to see the temporary traffic cones and follow the road even though I'm fairly familiar with the current layout from daytime driving (and my eyesight and car headlights are in good working order!!).
The lack of adequate lighting seems like an accident / incident of some sort waiting to happen. Anyone else think the same?

I agree, the traffic cones are all over the place, seems it was a result of the rally held in the area today I'm told

Direct Route won't do a partial opening because it's a PPP that includes maintenance of the whole scheme for 25 years after opening so it'll all be done in one go. TII already agreed to these terms when they awarded the contract.

A partial opening could occur if TII agree to pay the availability payments for the early opening. We know how reluctant DTTAS are to spend any money but political backlash locally could see it open early. The people of Tuam won't be too happy to see a traffic choked town for the summer with a dual carraigeway bypass lying idle beside the town.

That's if they actually have it finished by the summer. They could easily leave the a section unfinished until after the summer or decide to not put down the final wearing course until they're doing it on the rest of the scheme. Not saying they'll do this, but it is possible.

Have heard a phased opening is on the cards, talk among the crew of a late April bypass opening, not sure if this gives enough time to finish roundabout etc.

PPP...... Does that mean there's going to be a toll on the new road??

The old school method of hard tolling for PPPs (M1 Drogheda, M3 Clonee-Kells, M4 Enfield, M6 Ballinasloe, M7/M8, M8 Fermoy, N18 Limerick, N25 Waterford, M50 Westlink, Eastlink) has been replaced by a new model of availability payments where the government pays back the PPP concessionaire over a period of time in return for the construction and operation of the scheme. No hard toll on the road.

    This is being applied to:
N7/N11 PPP: N7 Newlands Cross and M11 Arklow-Rathnew. Concessionaire also takes M11 Ashford and Arklow/Gorey bypasses to maintain and operate
    M17/M18 Gort-Tuam
    M11 Gorey-Enniscorthy
    N25 New Ross Bypass
