Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Someone coming back today from the into west in group 3 had their boards gear.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 721 ✭✭✭Highway_To_Hell

That was TinyExplosion, Niceonetom and Me... we did look cool I have to say. Just came back 10 minutes ago from that spin.

Out for run along seapoint coast road and presumed I saw the 3 of you on your way home.

That would probably have been me. I hope I was obeying the rules of the road*

*I think I went through an amber light

Bad boy! Giving us boardsies a bad name... does no one know the rules: "anyone in board gear must remain a model cycling citizen at all times"

    :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,277 ✭✭✭kenmc

amber is fine, as long as the green is still warm :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,530 ✭✭✭dub_skav

There is a great deal of pressure to be law-abiding wearing that jersey.
Stopping at every red light actually gets you some odd looks though.

Gets you odd looks, but your overwhelming smugness at doing the right thing, and being law abiding is much greater :)

And if you really want to put an uber-positive spin on it, you can use the stopages as intervals and sprint back to top speed :)

I went down in group 3, but decided it was a bit slow, so came home with 4/5 (They decided to just go as one group on the way home)

First random spotting of boards.ie gear ! I was even thinking how disappointing it was that I hadn't seen anyone yet with the gear as I started on the way home.

I couldn't see if the sandals were being worn though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,995 ✭✭✭✭blorg

I had my first random spotting today too. Since acquiring a fixie I have developed a keen eye that checks out the rear hub area of any likely hipster. Coming down into Clonskeagh I saw a possible candidate on the other side of the road on this bright yellow monstrosity and sure enough, rear hub confirmed it- singlespeed. It was only after making this assessment that I looked up and noticed it- a boards jersey!

Finally spotted one - Rathgar Road just there, sandals and all.

Caroline.ie & a few others in Enniskerry today, then Blorg I think (recognised from photos on here!) heading fast down hill into Enniskerry village shortly after. I was sitting waiting for someone near the top of the hill in disco kit and gave you a wee wave :)

Had my first sighting yesterday morning on the coast road beside sandymount. The owner of the jersey was hot on the heals of another gentleman sporting a yellow jersey.

    'fess up!

My personal stalker knows my whereabouts better than I do myself. Yes, sounds like it was me, and yes, I do commute in my boards gear ...

Spotted a Boardsie earlier. It was a young lady cycling a black Giant Bowery (Caroline) going past Myos in Castleknock shortly after 2 o'clock. Sorry it was too late to give a beep or a shout out the window. She wasn't wearing any Boards attire though.

Happened to me the other day in Phibsbobo -was waiting at the lights and someone (who I didn't recognise!) shouted out "Tiny!"

I hope it wasn't a comment on me though....

You need a Boards sticker for your car, cos when a taxi beeps at me I assume it's not cos he likes me!

I was in a gym before and they checked what % of fat was in my body. It was a massive 1%. So I am infact a fatty.

Off-topic, but that's wrong, surely, or else I'm missing the joke. According to Wikipedia (yeah, I know)

"Certified personal trainers will suggest to male bodybuilders that they should aim for a body fat percentage between 2–4% by contest time.[6] Getting to this level usually requires a carefully planned and implemented exercise program, specific and carefully monitored variations in fluid consumption, energy intake and macronutrient ratios, sodium and potassium, and sometimes also use of ointments and alcohol".

    What can I tell ya...I'm a freak:eek:.

It was about 10years ago and I only weighed about 8 stone then. I didn't even know they could measure this. All I did was stand bare footed on some machine and it measured it. The instructor was a bit surprised also.

Actually, I think that was me. I was wandering down NCR and noticed your bike at the lights (obviously you were attached to it at the time). I knew that I'd seen it before but it took me a second to recall that you'd posted images of your rather beautiful single-speed Mercian on boards. It suddenly hit me that staring fixedly at a bloke on a bike might be miscontrued: hence my shout out. It is a lovely bike though...

Ah! Your arm ok? I noticed the sling...

It is indeed a tasty steed sir, thank you!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,001 ✭✭✭rflynnr

Thanks for asking: the arm is getting there. The sling has been largely unused for the past two days but, as I've torn a ligament in the shoulder, I'll be off the bike for another five weeks which is a bit of a killer. (Especially as I took delivery of a cargobike for moving around the kids last week - will post photos as soon as I get my sh*t together camera-wise.)
