Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I've noticed it going up about 5 cent in the last 2 weeks. I suppose it will take a month before the low priced oil hits us but only 3 days when the high priced stuff does

I noticed the station closest to me dropped their prices by a cent today.

Was true to the rip off all my local stations went up on the Thursday midday before the first Bank holiday weekend and they have stayed the same since E152.9 Unleaded.

Give it a week or two for the garages that bought tanks full of fuel at the high price to get rid of it and fill up on low price.

It was what was always said to me when I worked in a petrol station. The garage could be done out of thousands if they filled their tanks on the wrong day if the price fluctuated.

Fuel prices are always seem to be faster to go up than down.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 338 ✭✭Straylight

The station beside me hiked the price up to 155.9 yesterday, which is the highest I've ever seen there. This evening it was back down to 153.9.

    Topic should read:

"Petrol station profits set to increase"

They know how much the market will bear, and have learned to charge as such.

Derv went down 2 cents last night.

Yeah the Quays station is usually regarded for its low prices of fuel.

The garages on the Naas road tend to be cheapish as well.

Well, they have to make a living somehow. Petrol station owners are on the breadline you know. Going week to week not knowing where their next meal is coming from.

Between them and the publicans, we're very privileged to be able to help them fight on for another day or two by giving them as much of our money as they can get their hands on.

Thats also the reason you see so few petrol stations and pubs in Ireland - just no money to be made in it.

Shall be keeping a lookout to see if they drop. Some of the local ones actually went up again yesterday :(

If you can read this, you're too close!

In Limerick - diesel has dropped to 140.9 in Chawkes while the rest are Topaz in Roxboro is 145.9, Amber is 143.9 (usually the cheapest), Groody Filling stations are both 144.9

Filled up the tank - happy out

Told the lad behind the counter they were cheapest for diesel (petrol is 150.9) and he said oh no, and i said why? and he said its going to get so busy!

Hi guys, check out Sky News "Gaddafi bombs oil tanks". It seemed he used crop spraying planes to drop bombs on oil storage tanks

guess that means fuels will be going up again!

Its 1.40-1.42 for diesel now around drumcondra/phibsboro, it was at 1.45 a couple of weeks ago. This is the first sustained decrease ive seen in a while!

That's more likely down to driving conditions than anything else. All petrol in ireland comes from the same place.

There isnt going to be a 30-40 km difference between filling stations. At most there woulld be a small % difference, due to storage of fuel in different conditions but not in any way substantial enough to justify 2c/litre extra

Some of the cheapest fuel i've seen recently is around blanch.

More likely to do with the inaccuracy of measurement used imo.

I'll link to a post i made previously on the topic. You cant measure by using money as the constant - the price varies.

The only way to measure fuel efficiency is to calculate MPG by brimming, zero the trip counter, then re-brim, and calculate the miles per gallon (4.54 litres) manually.

Only way of knowing is to fill tank till it clicks off, take note of mileage, fill till it clicks off again and work out your mpg.

Where does it come from, you will get longer mileage out of fuel with a higher calorific content. FOr example E5 from maxol lasts less that 100% petrol as the ethanol burns quicker.

Ok, all fuel with the same RON comes from the same place then, if you want to be pedantic about it.

Are you then saying all unleaded fuel is the same weather or not the brands additive is added?

Because i get petrol from many garages and i have noticed considerable differences in consumption between garages at times, even with a difference in power from the engine! back when i was driving a diesel i even noticed a difference at times!

And no, my driveing style doesnt change and i take note of the wind...

for sure there is a difference in fuel as it dos'nt all come out of the ground out of the same hole....is the crude oil from north sea not different from the crude oil from the middle east, i don't know but would think that it's not exeactly the same..

    ..
Brand additives dont give any meaningful difference, certainly not 30 miles extra out of 13.3 litres.

The basic ingredient, the fuel, is all the same, and comes from the same location.

This topic has been done to death in the past here.

petrol rated at 95 RON is always the same fuel. We dont produce petrol/crude here, it's all shipped in.

We *do* produce petrol here, Whitegate refinery produces about 40% of our needs.

Petrol sold as 95 can be anything from 95 up. Whitegate's "95" blend is 99.2, for instance.
