Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

WIT Young Fine Gael brings you, in what promises to be a night to remember, "The Magic of Comedy" with special guests Simon O'Keffee, Robbie Bonhman, and Jack Wise.

Simon O’Keeffe - A top young Irish comedic talent, Simon has marked himself as a performer who is one to watch. A highly versatile act that is capable of playing to any type of audience with the number of his performances as headliner ever increasing.

Jack Wise - Jack is a Dublin based Magician who specialises in blending comedy with magic and we're definitely not talking spinning bow ties or rabbits in hats! He would delight his schoolmates by vanishing sweets in the face of a furious local shopkeeper! Often referred to as the "Magician to the Stars", it's his stunning close up magic, Jedi Mind Tricks and irreverent sense of humour that's made him the choice for celebrities such as Bono, Robbie Williams and the Corrs.

Robbie Bonham – Robbie plays regularly in the Laughter Lounge, the Capital Comedy Club, and various other Dublin gigs (in fact, anywhere with a microphone), and last year was voted the Capital Comedy Club's best support act. He was also in the final of the Bulmers Comedy festival for the second year running and has just attained the title of 98 FM's 'Dublin's Best Comedian'.

The event, is a comedy night in Revolution, John St., Waterford.

Tickets can be purchased at €8 in the Business Building (across from the Spar shop) on the Cork Rd. campus, outside the Canteen in the College St. campus, WIT Student Union offices and Revolution Bar Waterford. Alternatively, contact the branch secretary Steven Fitzpatrick - secretary@wityfg.ie for alternative ticket purchase arrangement.

On Saturday May 15th, Re:Publik are delighted to welcome back one of our favorite guests of the past 5 years, JT DONALDSON (Gallery, Usa) when he makes his Basement debut. Support on the night comes from Warren Sauvage. Doors open at 11pm & admission is 12 euro. Entry through Revolution Bar, John Street, Waterford.

    JT Biog:
With a love for the art of DJing and music production, JT Donaldson got his start in Dallas back in the mid 90's. Inspired by the house sounds of Chicago, Detroit and New York, he began collecting records and learning all he could from fellow Dallas house heads. JT released his first record on Fairpark Records back in 1996. Soon after he was commissioned to remix the legendary Chez Damier's "Close", an amazing starting point for the young producer. It was not long after that JT would relocate to Chicago and become part of the Chicago house music family. He started collaborations with Lance DeSardi, Tim Shumaker, DJ Heather, Diz, Colette and Cpen. He would go on to establish his own recording label, Gallery Music Group and release music from artists like Derrick Carter, Pty Ltd, Joshua, Vibezlect, Luke Solomon and Urban Jazz Naturals.

JT has travelled all across the globe over the last decade, playing music in some of the worlds best nightclubs and venues. His music is consistently changing and evolving, receiving support and recognition from top house dj's worldwide. He has released 3 mixed CD's to date and 2 full-length albums under the monikers 2nd Shift and Undercover Agency. With his productions in high demand he is frequently remixing other artists material as well as working on new projects. JT's DJ sets are as versatile as his record collection. Known as a house DJ first, he often drops sets of classic funk, soul, disco new wave and everything in between. You can catch JT at parties like the Do Over in Los Angeles as well as Lava Lounge in Chicago doing just that. With deep crates and a knack for studio production, JT promises to be around moving peoples feet for years to come.

    Citizen CPR
You don't have to do mouth-to-mouth to save a life

If you witness an adult suddenly collapse...Check, Call and Compress.

Today is the launch of a new nationwide campaign called "Citizen CPR" by PHECC (Pre Hospital Emergency Care Council - www.phecc.ie) to promote compression only CPR to the untrained members of the public who has never done a CPR course and who witnesses an adult collapse. "Citizen CPR" is not a course, it is a public information awareness campaign.

The more people that are aware of CPR and are willing to give CPR if they see someone collapse, the more lives will be saved. PHECC hope by
recommending simple compression-only CPR to untrained bystanders, the more people will intervene if they see somebody collapse.

If you see someone collapse who is then unpresonsive and not breathing,
they will still have oxygen in their blood. Permanent brain damage can
start to begin after only 4 minutes without oxygen. The quicker someone
acts the better chance of survival that person will have. Compression only
CPR helps circulate oxygen rich blood to the brain and other vital organs to help sustain life. This will buy precious minutes until trained
    emergency medical responders arrive.

The “Citizen CPR” road show which will visit 29 towns throughout Ireland
this summer. Local volunteer CPR instructors will be on hand to show you how to can save a life by compression only CPR.

The roadshow will be visiting City Square Shopping Centre, Waterford City on Sat 26th June.

    THE BIONIC RATS

At the recent “First Of The Summer Wine” festival in Tramore, the Ska Stage was heaving from start to finish, and Dublin band “THE BIONIC RATS” made a huge impression with their first gig in the sunny South East. And now the lads are making a quick return trip to play their first Waterford venue show, Downstairs @ The Forum this Saturday 10th July. DJ Mick will be spinning the best of ska, reggae and punk til the early hours. Doors are at 11pm and admission is €5 before midnight and €10 after.

The Bionic Rats are a seven piece Ska/Reggae band with members from Ireland, Nigeria and Armenia. They write and perform their own material and last year they released their debut album 'Return Of The Bionic Rats'. They were invited to play at the Official Afterparty for The Specials re-union gigs at The Olympia last year, and count Neville Staple as one of their biggest fans. They have also played recent support sets with Madness, Gregory Isaacs and Lee “Scratch” Perry. The lads create a rock-steady beat that is a joy to listen to with plenty of horns and percussion in the mix. Joe Strummer inspired anthems like “Don’t Be Giving It All That” and “Bad Garda” have earned them an enviable live reputation on the cut-throat Dublin music scene. Their set also includes many classic Ska and reggae covers. Don’t miss !

    A TRIBUTE TO “THE BOSS”

Bruce Springsteen has a well earned reputation as the greatest live performer in rock & roll history. His legendary 3 hour shows with the E Street band have been entertaining millions of fans all over the world for 4 decades now. Bruce also continues to record and release albums of astonishing quality every few years, and in fact has recently hit a purple patch with “Magic” (2007) and “Working On A Dream” (2009), getting reviews every bit as good as earlier masterpieces like “Born To Run”, “The River” and “Born In The USA”. Springsteen has had a lot to live up to right from the beginning, when a review of an early gig by top rock journalist Jon Landau said” I saw the future of rock and roll tonight and it’s name is Bruce Springsteen”. Front covers on “Time” and “Newsweek” magazines hailed him as the new Bob Dylan and to be fair, by and large Bruce has always lived up to the hype and is still delivering concerts of amazing intensity and quality. The Springsteens celebrate a lifetime’s music of Bruce Springsteen with a 2 hour tribute concert, Downstairs @ The Forum on Sat 4th September commencing at 10pm sharp. Admission is just €5.

The Springsteens are a five piece band formed specifically to play the brilliant songs of Bruce Springsteen. The band are dedicated to enjoying and sharing the Boss's music in a Live setting. Like all Springsteen shows, the band play a great mix of rockers and ballads, from the big hits to the classic album tracks, so there is enough here to please everyone from the casual listener to the hard core fan. Set highlights include “Badlands”, “Born To Run”, “Wreck On The Highway”, “The River”, “Hungry Heart”, “Born In The USA”, “Glory Days”, “Dancing In The Dark”, “Better Days”, “Brilliant Disguise”, “Lucky Town”, “The Rising” and “Radio Nowhere”. Add in some stomping Seeger Sessions numbers and the result is a perfect gig for any venue. Having played all over Ireland, The Springteens make their hometown debut, Downstairs @ The Forum on Sat 4th Sept.

Down Syndrome Ireland Waterford Branch and Sportif Waterford CC are holding a Sportif on Saturday August 14th. Three distances are on offer. A 15-20k family spin from the City to Tramore and back. A 50k spin taking in some of the coast road, and a 100k spin up the coast road to Dungarvan and returning on the main N25.

All 3 events will start from John Roberts Square (which is city centre) at 10:45am. Sign on from 10am. 20euro entry fee all going to the charity.

More info on this spin can be found here, the 100km route is a very good route, and would be an excellent training spins for those doing either the 90km or the 160km in the up and coming Sean Kelly challenge.

As its for a very good cause, we hope to see as many as possible coming out to support this cause. The volunteers within Down Syndrome Waterford branch have put an awful lot of work into this spin and hopefully their efforts will be rewarded.

I would appeal to those in and around the South East of the country if you can indeed, please support this sportive.

With regards to parking facilities for the start of this event, we hope to be in a position to have details on this by tomorrow evening. We are hoping to be able to use the Waterford regional sports centre as this is where the cycle for all three route finish.

Just had confirmation about parking facilities

In relation to parking facilities, we have just had it confirmed that the Waterford regional sports centre will be open from 8am for those wishing to park there. The RSC is situated 2km out the cork road from the main quays in the city centre. It is hoped that particants park up at the RSC and then make there way in to the starting point of John Roberts Square.

I'll put in google maps reference points to both the starting location and the RSC in the next while.

As promoter at The Forum, I have to defend this one. If you paid €15, it would defintely have been for a one-off gig by a reasonably high profile band. We feel we have pretty good variety up here between our 2 spaces, the Venue and the Lounge. The weekly clubnights DECADES (Lounge) and TRAFFIK (Venue) are €5 entry before midnight and €10 after and for this you will get a quality live band and DJ. Check local press or www.forumwaterford.com for details each week.

DECADES will be the weekly Saturday club-night at the FORUM LOUNGE, launching this Saturday 18th September. As the name implies, the club will feature the very best music from the 80s, 90s and 00s, to get you up on the dance-floor and give you the most glamorous and fun-filled Saturday night out. The club will also feature top quality live acts and everyone’s favourite, THE JAM TARTS ORCHESTRA, play a special 80s set at the launch party. The fantastic SMASH HITS play week 2 of Decades (Sat 25th Sept), and over the coming weeks the likes of SPECIAL BREW, PUMP UP THE JAM, RUBBER SOUL and the FIZZ BOMBS will be playing great live sets, followed by the DECADES DJs who will keep you dancing till the early hours. DECADES doors open at 11pm each Saturday night and the admission charge is just €5 before midnight and €10 after.

The FORUM LOUNGE is also ideally suited to host intimate gigs by the country’s best live acts, and DECLAN O’ROURKE kicks things off this Friday 17th September (doors 8pm). Declan used to be one of Ireland’s best kept secrets, but rave reviews for his debut album ‘Since Kyabram’ and it’s follow up “Big Bad Beautiful World”, a growing international fanbase, and an enviable collection of eminent devotees, including Paul Weller, Snow Patrol and Jonathan Ross are rapidly changing that. Both albums went double-platinum in Ireland and Declan’s third album is recorded and ready for release later this year. At the Forum Lounge this Friday, fans can expect a preview of some of these songs alongside favourites from his first 2 albums, all sung in that velvet-tinged bartitone with a killer falsetto. Other live gigs on sale at the Forum Lounge include, Mick Flannery, Damien Dempsey, Jerry Fish, Jape, The Unthanks, Kieran Goss and John Spillane. Tickets are available at Next Door Forum Waterford and 051 87111.

SMASH HITS PLAY DECADES @ THE LOUNGE !

After a jam-packed glamorous launch party at the Forum Lounge last week, Decades Club welcomes the phenomenon known as SMASH HITS this Saturday (25th Sept). Smash Hits are the BIG success story on the Irish entertainment scene of the last 12 months, they really bring the FUN back to Saturday nights. The 6 piece band from Dublin only came together in 2009, and were immediately offered a monthly residency at Tripod (which they have sold out everytime). Their reputation was further cemented by crazy performances at the Oxygen and Electric Picnic festivals. After a brilliant sell-out show in May, SMASH HITS return to The Forum Lounge this Saturday for another high energy live show of 90s Club Classics at the Decades clubnight. The Forum Lounge is the most glamorous entertainment space in Waterford, and is the perfect venue for The Smash Hits formula which is very simple; fully decked out in 90s gear they perform a fun filled and high energy set of 90s dance, pop and R’n’B chart classics from Technotronic, N-Trance, Culture Beat, Dr. Alban, MC Hammer, Snap, C+C Music Factory, Vanilla Ice and many more. It’s a throwback to the FEELGOOD time of old skool nightclub DJs, all night raves and packed out dancefloors. Just take a look at their current set-list highlights… “U Can’t Touch This”, ”Rhythm Of The Night”, “Gangter’s Paradise”, “It’s My Life”, “Ice Ice Baby”, “Return Of The Mac”, “I Like To Move It”, “Mr Vain”, “Free From Desire”, “Jump Around”, “Ebeneezer Good”, “Summertime”, “Imsonia” and “Born Slippy”. So grab your bum bag, bleach the tips of your hair and totally check out Smash Hits, who play the FAB and totally Glam Decades Club at The Forum Lounge this Sat 25th September. The Decades DJ will be playing a high energy mix of 80s90s00s hits to round off the night. Doors are at 11pm and admission is just €5 before midnight and €10 after. Next up at Decades on Sat 2nd October is Ska tribute band Special Brew, who stole the show at the recent First Of The Summer Wine festival.

Yeah I'm raging that I'm missing both of these as it's my stag on Saturday. I'd urge anyone to go and see at least one of these shows. If you want a preview, they're on The Late Late Show tomorrow night.

Haha. No, there are two gigs. They're doing a free gig outside BPM on Saturday evening. I presume this will be five or six songs or whatever. Then, they're playing a full gig for the launch of their album in The Forum Saturday night which is where people will have to pay.

And their album has just been released tonight which also costs money! But if you want to hear them for free, you can check out The Late Late tomorrow night and/or head down to BPM Saturday afternoon.

    A SPECIAL BREW AT DECADES

DECADES, the new Saturday clubnight at the very glam Forum Lounge, has had a great reaction over the last 2 weeks with the Jam Tarts Orchestra playing a super live 80s set at the Launch Party, and Smash Hits rocking the joint with their 90s club set last week. With the Decades DJ playing the best of 80s90s00s music before and after the bands, it really is a brilliant Saturday night out. This week (Sat 2nd Oct) sees the return to Waterford of the stars of the recent First Of The Summer Wine festival, SPECIAL BREW. Doors are at 11pm with admission just €5 b4 midnight and €10 after.

Special Brew, a 7 piece Ska Tribute band from Dublin, contain all the essentials for providing a night of Two Tone madness, (keyboards, brass section, guitar, drums, bass and nutty vocalist). The lads have held down a monthly residency at the “ Late Night @ The Gaiety” in Dublin for the best part of a decade, and their set list is guaranteed to keep you on the dancefloor. It includes all the classics by Madness (One Step Beyond, Baggy Trousers, Our House, It Must Be Love), The Specials (A Message To You Rudi, Gangsters, Too Much Too Young, Rat Race), The Beat (Mirror In The Bathroom, Tears Of A Clown, Hand’s Off She’s Mine), Bad Manners (Special Brew, Lip Up Fatty, Lorraine) and other Ska classics like Too Much Pressure (The Selecter) and You Can Get It If You Really Want (Desmond Dekker). So for a night of top quality entertainment, get yourself down to Decades at the Forum Lounge this Saturday.

    O EMPEROR ALBUM LAUNCH

Local heroes O EMPEROR launch their highly anticipated debut album “Hither Thither” with a live show at the Forum Venue’s TRAFFIK club this Saturday, 2nd October. There is a huge amount of national interest in the band, and in fact last week’s News Of The World devoted a full page to O Emperor commenting “We have had a sneak preview of the album and it’s full of epic songs which echo classic acts such as Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Bob Dylan and The Beach Boys. It is surely going to go down as one of the great Irish albums.” High praise indeed, but despite all the national attention the lads are coming home to Waterford next Saturday to play it first at Traffik. Doors are 11pm and admission is €5 B4 midnight, €10 after. Support act is The Gorgeous Colours and the Traffik resident DJs kick in with their usual great mix of indie classics after O Emperor. It’s going to be Gig of the Year. Don’t miss !

It seems that O Emperor appeared to burst onto the scene with the release of their debut single “PO” in October 2009, a jangly mid paced song named “Single of the Fortnight” in Hot Press. In reality is it was the culmination of years of hard work. Renowned for their sumptuous live performances, O Emperor were already building a staunch fan base; in 2009 they headlined the New Band Stage at Oxegen and were considered to be the band of the moment at the Hard Working Class Heroes Festival.
This was followed by their signing to Universal and the release in May 2010, of a four track EP “Reverie” led by the sublime “Don’t Mind Me”. 2010 also saw O Emperor touring Ireland and the UK in their own right and as guests of Mumford and Sons. They also made their second appearance at Oxegen and Electric Picnic, and are currently on tour on Germany. We will leave the last word on the band to Jim Carroll (Irish Times’ respected music critic): "Gentle and delicate songs, guided by intricate urgently-picked guitars, grinding electric lines, expansive piano playing, and wonderfully harmonised vocals - there’s a straightforward sincerity to the music of Waterford band O Emperor. They haven’t even released an album yet and they’re already better than many decades-old bands I could mention..."

Yep the lads are doing a short acoustic set at BPM tomorrow and this is for free.

It's a full live electric show at The Forum with the lads taking the stage at midnight. Doors are 11pm with a good support band The Gorgeous Colours on at 11.15pm. Admission only €5 for what we reckon could well be Gig of the Year.
