    Or. Getting over it.

    Fight your battles. Nobody cares. Plenty care about schooling etc. Bells are bells. They mark time. It may have originated in Roman Catholicism but now it's a mark of the afternoon sliding into the evening with slide show of pictures.

    Bells in this country are very much linked to church's.... Specifically Catholic Church, so to claim it's not a big deal and to in anyway claim it is no longer Catholic is utter nonsense.

    Fine, if people want a slide show of pictures and a moment of silence or remembrance then let's do exactly that. All they have to do is remove the bells and faith specific symbols from the vt.

    Otherwise they need to alternate the bells with other faiths and none faiths, this means Muslims will have a call to prayer etc.

    It's only fair and right in our multicultural society.

    Of course the better and less expensive option is to scrap the entire thing.

    Leaving aside it is embarrassing and stupid, the angelus is also a waste of money and air time. It costs RTE to produce, it cuts into advertisement time and it also means that the RTE News has to be shorter, meaning less time for discussion of actual events.

    What more would anyone want to get rid of it?

    Embarrassing? Compared to what? The UK has bishops in the upper house. The Queen is head of state. The BBC has a prayer for the day. This is a mere video of nice pictures and bells.

    So you're logic is because another country is even more silly when it comes to religion Ireland shouldn't bother moving forward?

    There's plenty of country's still using dirt roads and/or have awful Road networks... That doesn't mean Ireland shouldn't improve its Road network. Failing to do so means Ireland would still be an embarrassment

    RTE can't afford to lose anything, they are a national broadcaster, a non-profit. It is just waste at the tax payers expense, for literally no purpose.

    What RTE should do is cancel the Angelus and while right wing Catholic Ireland is making an un-Godly hullabaloo about it, we sneak in abortion choice and marriage equality while they are distracted.
