Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

She's running in the European elections in Midlands North West?

Just had a Sean Lyons car drive into our estate with a loud speaker blasting vote for him crap. It's almost 8pm on a school night and there are a lot of young kids in the estate, I'm not impressed!

You could call it anti-social media.

Amazed people still do that, makes me think of Back to the Future when Marty arrives back in 1955 for the first time and the mayor is touring around the town square touting for votes with a loud hailer on his car

Fancy, top quality colour leaflet just came through the letterbox from Fingal Co. Co. telling me where to vote on Friday.

I wonder how much these cost to print and distribute?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,687 ✭✭✭✭jack presley

This is an honest question and I'm not truing to have a dig at David McGuinness but I got a leaflet through the door from him earlier in the week where his point was that as he has formally raised 96 issues to Fingal CC over the past 14 months as opposed to Ruth Coppinger's 12, he has delivered more for Dublin West?

So does asking a question or raising an issue actually mean you are delivering? Out of the 96/12 issues raised by the 2 of them, how many were actually acted on or resolved to their satisfaction?

    It's also quality vs quantity...

Generally issues raised are no more than notifying the council of a broken streetlight!

That's what I was thinking. Is it too late for him to tell us how successful he was with the issues he raised then and the seriousness of them?

Apparently there's not a whole lot a councillor can actually do,

You can always try get in contact with him..

It's a meaningless statistic really. Especially when it comes to showing how good either candidate might be in the Dáil.

It looks like it's Coppingers for the taking now though. My first preference is Roderic, but I'm very torn on second preference.. I don't particularly want any of the 6 favourites, especially after that joke of a debate.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,463 ✭✭✭Kiwi_knock

It is not really a persuasive argument. The work he has done is more important than the issues he has raised. Would be more useful to highlight his voting record on issues.

Has there been an opinion poll published? I haven't seen anything at all so I'm really in the dark as to who's likely to get elected.

    Guesswork.

I just can't see disillusioned labour voters heading to Sinn Féin over the socialists (in our constituency!)

  • Registered Users, Subscribers, Registered Users 2 Posts: 47,336 ✭✭✭✭Zaph

Fair point. Actually it's pretty poor that there hasn't been any sort of opinion poll. Paddy Power are probably still the nearest thing we have to one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,463 ✭✭✭Kiwi_knock

Coppinger has to be the firm favourite. Nulty's vote was a left wing vote not a government vote so it should be going towards her. Dublin West has never been a SF area, so unless Donnelly can buck the trend, Coppinger will get the left wing vote.

Probably the most interesting thing is where will David Hall get his votes from, he will do well enough in the middle class areas but I am unsure if he can get votes in the working class areas.

Joan Burton popped around today, of course I was out but they've been the only canvasser's to drop in while either of us have been in.

Why on earth did they bother - the plain old black and white polling card has the necessary info.

David Hall called to the door last week. It's the first time a candidate has ever called to the door in all the time I've lived in D15. Complete spoofer, but he talks a good game which will get him votes in certain areas.

Eithne Loftus was in Riverwood, Carpenterstown this afternoon. I got a little flyer in the letter box but no knock on the door.

Ironically the flyer expressed her disappointment at not being able to meet as many people as she wanted. Eh, didn't even try!!

RTÉ are doing an exit poll for this. Official result in the morning, but I wonder if we could hear more late tonight?

Desperation tactics using delicious and healthy bribery!? :pac:

It'll be interesting to see the exit poll, but this bye-election will be won on transfers, so I'm not sure how relevant it will be?

Be interesting all right. Going by the odds in the bookies Ruth Coppinger is nailed on to get it. I presume they have access to polls for their odds.

Wait, that's an offence? One of my most detested political 'commentator's posted photos of his completed ballots. Ooooh.

I posted a pic of my ballot papers, but I didn't take the pic while in the polling booth.

There is a live tally by some on Twitter: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1qJodg_zyUXUoGoNy40EHugjBlAXV58ZxQEDACm179ZE/pubhtml

Coppinger in the lead, but Donnelly polling very strongly as well. McGuinness is doing well. Hall is still in contention. It is not looking good for Coghlan. 10% of the boxes have been counted so far.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,068 ✭✭✭LoonyLovegood

I'm just wondering where the transfers will go. I can't predict where the bulk of Coughlan or Mulligans will be. They also haven't opened any boxes from the Castleknock end.

I've been helping at the tally. The voting patterns are weird a lot of people just putting down number 1s

Green doing better than labour at the moment though for the bye election. Looks like coppinger but it's very early yet

Will be a disaster for FG if Coghlan ends up in 5th. At this stage transfers will be massive.

Living in d15 but not eligible to vote here... would love to see coughlan fail miserably. Had his people knocking on the car window at the lights in castleknock on the way to work yesterday, waved them off but they then started trying to put the flyer beteeen the glass and the door! Promptly rolled down the window and told them to fcuk off.
Would never vote fg anyway but the policy of parachuting names or faces in with no experience and clearly no idea what to do (tv3 appearance) really grates on me

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,463 ✭✭✭Kiwi_knock

Looks like a two horse race at the moment, McGuinness drifting away. Have any Castleknock boxes been opened yet?

I was talking to my Mam about that when we went in yesterday. She'll usually get to 5 or 6 on the list, she only got to 2.

Donnelly goes ahead with 10% of boxes left. Could a massive shock be on the cards.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,068 ✭✭✭LoonyLovegood

44 votes between Donnelly and Coppinger. Boyne, Kidd and Lyons to be eliminated. The Greens have beaten Labour on first preferences by almost 400!

RTE have the two of them neck and neck. I gave neither a preference but would rather Donnelly over Copinger.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 27,833 ✭✭✭✭ThisRegard

Donnolly ahead on the actual count. No one called that this morning. Who's more transfer friendly?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,463 ✭✭✭Kiwi_knock

Still would have Coppinger as favourite, but then no one thought Donnelly would do that well.
    Donnelly (SF) 6056
    Coppinger (SP) 5977
    McGuinness (FF) 5053
    Hall (Ind) 3803
    Coghlan (FG) 3715
    O’Gorman (Grn) 1856
    Mulligan (Lab) 1505
