Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Why would he be grinning? He hasn't put in the effort to get on the team. Would he really want all his teammates to fail?

He was in great form and had recently won the tour of California. It was widely expected that he would be in the tour team.

He wouldn't want all his team mates to fail - but perhaps just the one.

Sky made a major mistake IMO not bringing Wiggo.......it seems like the Gods were against them becasue everyone was saying 'what if Froome crashes' and he did

It's always sad to see a rider abandon any race, nevermind the biggest race in the world. What a pity. I was really looking forward to the Contador/Froome mountain stages.

If wiggo is fit, why wouldn't you bring him?

It makes no sense, unless he wasn't happy riding for froome

Froome did not want him, or that's the story anyway

How much is this down to Froome's alleged poor bike handling skills ?

Contador struggling or taking it handy?

He rides with his head down a bit too much, no doubt that has to lead to greater chances of crashing

Nibali's got a pretty good gap over Contador, he should capitalize

I would say it's heavily down to that. He couldn't have done anything about his crash yesterday which was also decisive, but I think a better bike-rider wouldn't have crashed the way he did today.

I'd say he's just ensuring he finishes the stage without issue.

Lotto and Astana going to come to blows if Astana continue to be lazy :P

So, how much time can Contador afford to lose to Nibali? The way its looking with five sections still to go, he could lose 5mins plus here.

Gap is growing, Sagan/Nibali group have about 45 seconds over Contador who now has 3 team-mates

This is absolute chaos, but Belkin are in an excellent position. Boom, Vanmarcke have just powered off the front of what was the yellow jersey group. Ten Dam and Mollema not too far behind.

About 45 seconds between Contador and Nibali. Nibali looking much more comfortable on the cobbles, but he has just had to put a foot on the ground when his team-mate fell down in front of him. Possibly the most difficult pave section up next, anything could happen

I think he isn't smart enough about where he places himself on the road & where he has his guys around him, so that they can shepard him around.

    Leaders -> VanMarcke/Boom (17 seconds) -> Nibali/Cancellara group (26 seconds) -> Contador group (1'19) (Peloton)

Best guess of the situation right now

Does he have much experience as a domestique?

Is it normal to bring a reserve team leader who isn't a noted domestique and doesn't like the team leader and isn't liked by the team leader?

He finished 32nd in Tour of Flanders and 9th in Paris Roubaix, before beating a second class field in California.

First Group with 18km to go: Nibali, Fuglsang, Westra (Astana), Sagan (Cannondale), Boom, Vanmarcke (Belkin), Kwiatkowski, Renshaw, Trentin (OPQS), Gallopin (Lotto), Cancellara (Trek), Lemoine (Cofidis), Clarke, Hayman and Keukeleire (Orica).

Have to think that with Froome out Contador won't mind shipping a minute to Nibali, unless Porte has his best form, all Contador has to do to win the tour is stay upright, you'd think!

Edit: Latest time check 1:53! 3 minutes would make it real interesting!

Shocking that Saxo and Movistar can't pull any time back and are losing so much time.
