I only went to Smithfield in Benburb St. The other comment was a a quote to someone else regarding Linders of smithfield.

Joe was there for many years. When Archers went he worked for a while in Traynors of Finglas doing warranty work. He was pushing 70 at the time.

You could try Tractamotors in Blanchardstown - only one of that era still around.

How old is that list ? i worked for Fiat Dealerships in the early 70's and very few of them ring a bell.
The one that really sticks out is Fitzgerald Motors in Kilmainham, I lived in Inchicore from the late 50's, where exactly were they, do you know ?

The entrance Callow's main work area was in Cumberland Street directly opposite Boyne street. It was right next to to rear entrance to Poole's & beside a shop owned by my godfather's parents.
Poole's then amalgamated with Booth's & moved to Islandbridge.
The commercial vehicle garage for Autocars was in Boyne Street where they also did the Fordson tractors.

Assemblers were not Fiat dealers. They serviced all makes but mainly BMC. I worked there as a mechanic from 1965 t0 1968. They closed down some years later.

Herberton Motors on Herberton Road were FIAT Dealers in the 70s as I bought a 128 there. They had a guy there who was a specialist on the 130 & its auto box & also the Fulvia.

Formerly occupied as a branch depot by Assemblers Garage of Lombard St. Did some car sales there and owned the petrol pumps

Assemblers at one stage imported Hudson and some Dodge cars from the States in FKD form and assembled them for sale in Ireland. They retained the Assemblers name after the importing stopped. Many of the imported cars were bought by funeral undertakers.

I was an apprentice motor mechanic in Assemblers from 1967 and served a five year apprenticeship there. I left in in 1973 qualified. In a reply to ben9195, Assemblers were indeed a Fiat dealer after giving up the BMC agency in 1970. We did however continue to service and repair all makes of vehicles. I am living in Australia right now but on a recent visit home I visited the old premises and I see it is a tyre outlet now. The proprieter kindly allowed me to wander around the old "homested" and as I looked I told him some of the lost history ---- much of it way back beyond my time! The garage, still intact, used to be the Church of St. James of Compostella and Marovitz Flats at the rear was an old leper coloney and graveyard hundreds of years ago, part of which is now under the garage. Some building excavation was proposed, sometime about 1969 - 70, after an old wall collapsed and crashed through the wash area roof and there was speculation that digging might unearth human remains.
I think that I scared the s**t out of the present occupier !!!!

Just realised that this thread has been running since 2011! The McCairines photos are really something, this was close to where my aunt used to live in Beaumont. Many a childhood journey was made that way as it as the main N1 (or T1 as it was). What has become of the place? Probably flats no doubt.

Dealers in Drogheda back in the day were ...

Lawson Motors (mentioned here already) did Morris in the '60s & Toyota in the early 70s before they went out of business.

Kennys Garage did Austin & we got our Austin 1300 there in 1970. Bought a 2nd hand Honda Civic there myself in '92 when they were a Renault dealer. They closed up sometime in the 2000s.

KMK Motors (an offshoot of Kennys) sold Crysler. We got a Hillman Hunter there in 1973.

Tara Motors in the '80s were Fiat dealers. We got a Fiat Ritmo from them in 1981. They ceased in the 80s.

Gilmore Motors up byond the Black Bull were Mercedes & Audi dealers in the 60s. They ceased in the early 70s.

Brendan Kierans did Renault in the 70s, & then Mitsubishi in the 80s in Tara Motors prior premises.

McGees Garage were Fiat dealers in the 60s. My Aunt won a Fiat 850 sometime around the late 60s. The car was provided by McGees.

Just ordered a replica of my badly faded 32 year olf fairlane sticker from a uk printer. They do any replica for £10.50 inc postage, just give them a photo of original.

that's crazy cheap. The artwork for that Fairlane one is pretty simple but an unusual one could take an hour or two to replicate, especially if there's no modern font available to match the text or is it has an obscure logo that isn't currently available as vector art.

I wonder would they still charge £10.50?

I believe 10.50 is standard charge, on their website they have samples of other more complicated stickers they have reproduced.

HB Dennis ( 'now part of Joe Duffy motors' ) used to have 777 in all their personal cars ( Jags /R Rovers ), the Dennis's lived on the Howth rd near Harry Byrnes.
