    Hi all

I'm looking to get married in Malta at the end of march early April 2013. Wanting a civil wedding with only about 15 people so not wanting to spend a fortune as will have a party back home to. Any ideas on venues and stuff would be fab. Thankyou

    Hi All,

I got married in Malta a couple of weeks ago, we organised it ourselves and it wasn't nearly as difficult as we anticipated. Yes there were about a million emails going back and forth but all the suppliers we dealt with were great and the service they gave was amazing on the day. I thought the paperwork would be a nightmare, there was a lot involved but once we got our heads around it we did fine. I would recommend a few days over in Malta about 3 months prior to the wedding, we went over in Feb and met most of our suppliers as well as doing our legal paperwork in the marraige registry. I know a lot of people go with wedding planners and we did initially but had a bad experience so with 6 months to go decided to do it ourselves and I'm really glad we did. If you want any information about suppliers we used or paperwork stuff I'll happily answer any questions and would have no problems recommending anybody we used so feel free to contact me.

Hi I got married in Malta in April and had our reception at villa Arrigo . I'd say go for it , the place is stunning , food is amazing , great professional service , the bar was cheap and it really is a fairy tale venue. We got married in palazzo Parisio (2mins from villa) but couldn't afford to feed our guests at palazzo ! Although looking back I'm so happy I couldn't as we wouldn't have experienced the villa. Im guessing the price you mentioned is for more than just food, are all the legal bits, cars etc included? I would definetly recomend using planners. They are just in the background just making sure things run perfectly and I really had a fantastic fairy tale wedding thanks to them ( not sure if I can mention the company but they are a husband and wife team ). You will not be disappointed with villa Arrigo and Malta in general . Wish I was there now. Best of luck with planning

Awhh thats brill, yeah we arer going with the husband and wife team also!! they seem so lovely and are just brilliant at emailing us back?? Did yee go visit the venue and sample the meals. We are hoping to get over soon to visit the venue and meet our planners. We have villa arrigo provisionally booked. How many guests were at your venue if u dont mind?? What photographer did you use or have you any recommendations at all for us. Would really appreciate them!!! Thanks so so much in advance x

Great decision ! We did visit the villa a year before the wedding but didn't sample the food. The food was exceptional . We had soup or salmon starter and a choice of fish, chicken & beef(think i may have paid a bit extra for 3rd option)we had 31 guests at villa and put money behind the bar for guests. When your in Malta and so close to the villa you should pop into palazzo parisio for a wonder. It's not to everyone's taste as its seriously ott but wow what a place! We had ruben as our photographer - he really made our day very special and was so enthusiastic and professional and not at all demanding. All the suppliers that are used by planners are top class and I recommend trusting them 100%. I tried to organise two things for some reason and they were potentially disastrous but planners were on hand to sort out my near mess. The night of the wedding we stayed in xara palace in mdina .oh the villa have really lovely silver candelabras that you can hire for centre of table and to display your wedding cake on: very elegant.

    Hey

I joined this forum a few months back sharing ideas about weddings abroad and photographers etc....well the wedding is over and done with and for anyone who is thinking about getting married abroad, think Malta!! I am not just saying this now but we are still waiting to wake up from a dream..even my dad said this morning he feels like it was all a dream the way it all ran so smoothly and how it was so romantic and magical...

I want to share our experience and hopefully get some more couples to experience the dream day without putting themselves under enormous financial strain.

To get married in Malta starts with getting your usual letter of freedom from your parish priest. There was no fuss about a pre-marriage course, it was entirely up to us. We are together since school so have ironed most things out at this stage. Anyway Malta is quite religious with a 97% attendance at mass but the whole pre-marriage course was deemed unnecessary.

For the legal side of things...We contacted the Marriage Registry Office in Valletta and they guided us through the whole process. Basically the forms were available online and they just needed to be stamped and signed by a commissioner for oaths. Then we sent them back with birth certs, copy of passports and witnesses copies of passports. A small fee and it was sorted.

For the religious side of things...we contacted the Archbishops Curia in Valletta and sent on our letters of freedom and communion and baptismal certs.

To book the venue and the chapel I made a short trip over (2 days) and organised and booked the chapel, hotel, florist and photographer. This was a cheap ryanair flight last February and it made all the difference as you need to see a church/chapel and venue before booking anywhere you choose.

A small chapel in St. Pauls bay was chosen where the sacristan took care of the organist and the flowers for less than 100 euro. Contact was kept throughout the months leading up to the big day.

The Radisson in Golden Bay Malta was chosen and again the link person emailed with up to date menus, cake options and decoration ideas.

The florist was first class, he was recently involved in the flowers for the pope's visit to Malta..and even though he was used to doing flowers for weddings up to 1900 people, our group of 32 made no difference, we still got a great service and for 130 euros I got an orchid flowing bouquet, 6 orchid button holes and an orchid corsage for the bridesmaid...I dread to think what that would have cost me here...anyways....

The photographer specialises in Irish weddings in Malta and is also trying to break into the Irish market and set up an office in Dublin. My husband is a hobbyist photographer and still cannot get over the service we received and as for the photos, they are excellent....he has friends who are photographers and said the same service would have cost us 2,000 euros here when all we paid was 200 for 4 hours work and all our 300 photos on cd ...yes I know photographers differ but this guy was clever, he took photos without us knowing, his attention to detail was unbelievable...he was just a natural photographer and nothing was staged or fake looking.

The wedding car cost 30 euro, the wedding cake was 75 euro (100 cupcakes and a large top cake), corkage was 5.50, champagne corkage was 8.50, chapel flowers 30 euro..guests included a florist and a chef who both were shocked at the prices and what we got....

I am probably going into too much detail here but if you are 30 something and want an intimate, romantic wedding in a sunshine guaranteed location then I highly highly recommend Malta....we are both 35 and always said it would be abroad so 32 family members and friends joined us for the best day of our lives....in total we got married for less than 3000 and some guests think we paid at least 20,000 for what we got....a chapel in a fishing village, a five star silver service meal to die for and an evening of romance, fireworks and chinese lanterns....if anyone out there wants business names or finer details I would be more than happy to pass them on.....I mean it, I would not offer them unless I was 100% guaranteed they were reliable and good value for money.

Aside of the cost, absolutely nothing went wrong on the day, the food at the hotel was the best i have ever tasted, the staff were anticipating my needs all evening, the balcony was lit up with citronella candles as I told them about the irish and mosquitos!!! the bridal suite was fantastic and the whole experience will be with us forever.

    Hi Incy Wincy / Cheyni

We are still at the ideas stage for our wedding and haven’tmade any inquiries yet. If possible itwould be great if you have a breakdown of all your costs to send through includingany hire fees or admin fees your venues charged, what venues, menus and drink packages you went for and what theyincluded also did you stay In the hotel where your wedding was held or somewhereelse. We are thinking we would like to hold the ceremony outdoors on a terracewith a view then a sit down meal or buffet again out doors on a terrace. Also if you have any photographs that you dont mind sending that would be great no worries if you would prefer no to though.

Looking on the internet I’m finding it really hard to get atrue picture of how much the whole wedding might cost, I was initially thinkingGreece but having come across this page I have never been to Malta and lookslike it maybe just as nice but cheaper.

We are looking to have a small wedding with between 20 to 30guests. Anymore detailed information andtips you can provide me with would be great
    Thanks

    Hi,

We are looking into getting married abroad, and after reading this thread, Malta seems like a perfect location. But we really don't know where to start.

Could you please pm me the contacts (venue, church, makeup, photographer, florist, band, and how did you organise the firworks etc.) and finer details you have would be greatly appreciated as we have a very limited budget.

Look forward to hearing from you.

    Thanks,
    Cuddle cheeks

Anymore detailed information andtips you can provide me with would be great
    Thanks

    Hi, Incy Wincy/Cheyni:

I have nearly the exact same idea and questions as twinkle589. Do you mind pm me the details please?

Or twinkle589, if you have already received any details on this, do you mind pm too?

    Thanks everyone!
