Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

That's it for tonight, thought I'd stop this evening at Manson since most people thought he would win this when the final ten names came out.

    We are left with:

    Duncan Disorderly
    Justin Shape
    Omen
    Paddy Morrow
    Paul Tracey
    Sean "Maxer" Brennan

So who is going to take it?

Holy crap it really is a one promotion affair isnt it?!

Where could i find the podcast with manson and sheik?

Whoops, misunderstanding there! They weren't on podcast together, just that the Shiek is a favourite wrestler of the podcast and they both shared ring time together. Not wrestling though

Aye FFPW should be proud to see that top six right there. All six guys placed at either number 1,2 or 3 on most peoples lists, with the exceptions being very very few in between.

Ah. Dam my speed reading. :p

    Number 8

    Philly The Kid

Currently making a name for himself in FFPW, we have the dark horse of this list, Philly The Kid.

Philly is a man who I love to watch wrestler, because he makes wrestling fun. From the moment 5,6,7,8 comes through the soundsystem, you know you're in for a good time. The cowboy outfit just completes the whole thing.

He may not be everyones cup of tea, but part of that is because alot of people won't give him the chance he deserves, simply because of his gimmick. It's very easy to hate a cowboy who comes to the ring with Steps as his theme music, but if you look past it you'll find a very talented wrestler. Placing so high on this list is a strong testament to that fact. Philly also takes a gimmick that would cause most fans to boo him right out of the building, yet gets cheers from it. He knows that a gimmick can only do so much; if it's flat fans won't cheer for you. Philly gets a reaction every time he is in a match, and it's always the one he wants. Hopefully this year some fans will wise up and realise that under the hat is an extremely talented wrestler.

Besides, a cowboy is not that out of the ordinary, considering almost all of us love watching a zombie biker steal Wrestlemaina after Wrestlemania.

It seems that this write up kind of focuses on the fact that Phily The Kids gimmick should be given a chance. In reality the gimmick is loved by audiences young and old I haven't really heard any bad reports about it myself.
You also dont really mention that in his last guise 'Phil The Thrill' he is a former 2 time NWA Ireland Heavyweight Champion and a 2 time Irish Tag Team Champion. He is also one of the most travelled wrestlers from Ireland who has been all over the UK,France, Spain, Sweden, Canada, USA and I'm sure one or two other places Im leaving out. He's also the head trainer of Irelands most successful training school and has been invited abroad to host training seminars. Not too shabby for a happy cowboy from Cabra.
I just thought I'd add a bit more to his write up that maybe you might not have known. I hope this doesn't seem smart I just thought I'd help.

Nonono man by all means, if people want to add anything to these lists then fell free. I'm not a guru of Irish wrestling by any means, so any notes that others can add would be welcomed with open arms!

    All of them.

I have enough personalities to make up 6 men. My wit and charm were joint first.

I would think that Mr. Hurley is growing impatient, waiting for his rightful declaration as Irelands Greatest.

I think the reason the top six guys are there is pure exposure really. You can see a lot of people voting on this that dont actually follow Irish wrestling but would have attended an AWR event on the power of the american draws. The Irish lads pulled off some great matches on these shows with each other and the yanks (stealing the show some nights). The fact that they are working for AWR means they are , with maybe the exception of one, the standard to work for in Irish wrestling. It is great for the fight factory to claim that they have produced so much talent in the top 30. It's brilliant advertising for the training school.

So... any word on the final 6? Or is the tension going to keep building...?

Either way, the results speak volumes of the quality of training in the Fight Factory. The best of the best.

Not quite, this poll only served to motivate me to join. I had been meaning to for a while, I just never go around to it. I assure you it wasn't a case of me joining to vote for particulars. I voted for who I thought were the best in Ireland.

  • Registered Users Posts: 234 ✭✭Justin Ternet

Any tension has long since gone from this mr. I think maybe 5 months later and still no result is a bit too long. I know the boston crab didn't have to do this but i reckon the result should have been out before the new year. This thread has died a death due to lack of interest. I can only imagine TBC is holding out for his pod cast and he has done a great job with the write ups but maybe could have brought it together a bit swifter. This could have kept peoples attention and this thread might be more talked about now with discussions and the like but in fact interest has dwindled and unfortunately no one cares any more.

    Thats a little unfair.

Well it maybe harsh but you have to admit the thread isn't really over active these days.

No, but that is not from people caring or not caring,
thats down to the lack of an update on the top 6.

  • Registered Users Posts: 234 ✭✭Justin Ternet

Well maybe it was a bad choice of words but i stand by what i said. There is a lack of interest now and it really doesn't seem like there will be when the results come out. The only reason im keeping it up is because im an unapologetic shameless plugger of the fight factory.

Stop going on about it then.

The guy is doing it in his own time, so he'll post the results when he's good and ready.

  • Registered Users Posts: 234 ✭✭Justin Ternet

I did mention that what i know he didn't have to do it and it's appreciated that he is putting his time into it i just pointed out that there just isn't much interest in it now that so much time has elapsed. I dont mean to offend him or anyone else it's just my thoughts on the matter. I hope these last few posts actually spark interest again and get people talking.

You must appreciate the irony in your saying no one cares when you quite obviously do.

  • Registered Users Posts: 234 ✭✭Justin Ternet

I never said i didn't care. Its plain to see I do. I normally rip into someone who cant appreciate the irony in there own stupidity. If anything I would think its obvious that im actually trying to get some interest back into the thread. Im not trying to put pressure on TBC here i think the ship has sailed on the timing of this it would just be nice to see peoples thoughts on it. Like ' who do you think won?' or ' jesus Manson and Viper should be ahead of Omen and Shape'. But I cant see it happening now with the lengthy gaps between each set of names.

With the new job I have been super busy since Xmas and haven't even had much time to do anything with the website. Thankfully once the census is over my hours will come back to me and I can focus on other areas of my life, including the website.

It's a shame that this had to stop start stop start because of work but that's life. Since those who are still interested in who got where, I'll post the top 6 now without the write ups but with some of the comments that voters gave them. I'll come back to the writes ups in a week or two when I'll have the time to do all my research etc.

    6: Justin Shape
“Despite the gimmick, when it comes down to it, Shape can wrestle! He reminded me of that when he has a blinder with Shawn Maxer in Bray on 10/10/10”
“Funniest man in pro-wrestling, talent on the mic surpassed only by his wrestling ability. A tag team specialist, had a war with him and Butler for the Tag straps for at least 6 months, some of my best matches. Great singles gimmick too.”
“A solid wrestler who brings a lot of personality to his performances.”
“Good character guy, and can play a versatile role.”

    5: Omen
“Excellent gimmick, can wrestle or brawl with the best of them.”
“Great heel look and good in-ring.”
“He's the perfect big man is arsenal is immense and the omen thing is an excellent gimmick.”
“Great psychology for wrestling, can put the best matches together. Puts alot of time and effort into his gimmick and can do amazing things for a big guy.”
“Great look to him, both physique and gimmick-wise. Can fly about too which is rare in a guy his size.”
“Great look, with fine technical ability and power moves. One of the smartest guys on the Irish scene.”
“Has found a really impressive gimmick that stands out, but in truth, was a standout beforehand. The definition of a “good hand” in the ring.”
“Hulking physical specimen who has found new life as the demon Omen. Terrific look, bulked physique, and great at riling up a crowd. His in ring work can be hit and miss, but most certainly does the job.”
“Good gimmick, good reaction from crowd, good in ring, good physique”

    4:Duncan Disorderly
“The guys got the look, in ring talent if brilliant, can be a great heel or face. Has superstar written over him”
    “Great look and impressive in-ring.”
“He looks like a wrestler and has had some whopper matches”
    “Great look and constantly improving”
“Has it all, the look and the talent. Great wrestler, no doubt about it. Great as a heel, but shines as a babyface.”
“Great physique. Aesthetically, the best in Ireland right now.”
“A seasoned performer with a great look and a terrific varied arsenal of moves. Good as a heel, great as a face, has a bright future.”
“Has arguably the best look of any grappler in the country. Can deliver high-flying action, but combines it with a solid foundation and focus on storytelling. Come across as a star, as much as anyone around and has never looked out of place on AWR cards with former WWE stars.”
“Excellent physique, excellent in ring, gets well over with the crowd as a heel and is one of the few guys who can be a convincing super babyface. CANNOT have a bad match. Unmatched in Ireland.”
    “Great worker, versatile, filthy ride.”

    3:Paul Tracey
“Excellent wrestler, travelling all over the world at the minute with his lord manor gimmick, Brilliant on the mic.”
“Excellent technical wrestler. ‘Lord of the manor’ character has definitely added to his whole package.”
“He has honed his skills worldwide and is flawless on the mic.”
“His "lord of the manor" gimmick has given him the confidence he needed to bring himself up the highest standard. His work in the ring is a about as solid as they come.”
“The consummate Pro Wrestler. Great on the mic, unmatched technical wrestling knowledge and ability. Greatest flaw is his desire to help others succeed rather than focus entirely on his own career. My favourite opponent.”
“Fergal Devitt's old tag-team partner and running buddy is one of the most under-rated talents in the world today. Outstanding technical wrestler.”
“Offers something different from most on the scene, and is probably the best character in Ireland. Consistently delivers, and will be really crucial in helping others develop too.”
“Since taking up the Lord of the Manor gimmick, Tracey has found a new lease of life - written off as bland and boring previously, he is as hated a heel as anyone on the Irish scene and his matches have gotten much better as a result. Added to this is his large size and decent physique, and he looks the real deal.”
“Decent in ring, decent size, personality of a wet brick”

    2: Paddy Morrow
“The most technically gifted wrestler still in this country. He is Devitts student through and through. He is gifted at provoking an emotional reaction from the audience.”
“Just the best plain and simple”
“If Paddy had a little more of a "look" he'd be un-stoppable.”
“Greatest bumper in Irish wrestling history, unbelievable high flyer, easiest person in the world to wrestle, could make anyone look a million bucks. Legitimately never seen him have a bad match in 8 years.”
“The longest reigning NWA-I champion ever and one-time IWJ Wrestler of the Year. Consistently delivers near flawless action night in night out, pound for pound the best wrestler on the Irish circuit.”
“Sometimes overlooked, but one of the most exciting, durable athletes on the scene. Has had some classic high-flying battles in the past.”
“Amazing in ring, amazing at working a crowd, his only drawback is his physique which detracts until he gets in the ring. Once in, he changes the mind of every crowd. be it as a heel or as a face.”

Which means that every bit of congratulations belongs to who Boards and The Boston Crab voted as Irelands best wrestler:

    Sean "Maxer" Brennan!!!

“Easily one of the best wrestlers in the country right now, got a great look too boot”
“Definitely one of the best in the country.”
“Shawn's dedication to being the best he can be is amazing. He trains constantly, hits the gym 5 times a week and eats right. Always knew he was good, but I never knew how good he was until I watched him face RVD and Sabu in a 3 Way and he looked like a star in with those guys.”
“League of his own, great physique, great attitude, crisp worker. Loves wrestling and it's shown when you watch him in the ring. Had my best matches with him.”
“An outstanding worker, one to watch.”
“Great high-flier, but underrated doing the subtle stuff as well. Has gained ridiculous experience working with an assortment of opponents on tours, and should do nothing but improve.”
“Excellent physique, and awesome in-ring skills. His only drawback is his lack of charisma, but he makes up for this with terrific technical skills and exciting, agile wrestling.”
“Not great in personality stakes but great in ring. Makes a good heel”
““He does what he does so well. He is in great shape and has wrestled some household names with AWR and stood toe to toe with them.”

Sean was miles ahead of everyone from the get go, but numbrs 3-4 were so close it was unreal.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 19 Good2beGlam

Well done to Sean! Glad to se Sean and Paddy taking the 1 and 2 spots! ya could argue between who's one and 2 but at the end of the day these 2 lads are light years ahead of the rest of the pack!

Surprised that Philly The Kid wasn't much higher in the list, he and Justin Shape are the next in line after Paddy and Maxer for my money!

  • Registered Users Posts: 234 ✭✭Justin Ternet

I nearly missed this. Congratulations to Maxer its well deserved he puts in the hard work and it shows. I cant really argue with that top 5, the best of the best.

I sent TBC a private mail but again Im sorry if it seemed like I was being a d**khead it wasn't my intention to force your hand and rush the result. Keep up the great work.

From the bits I've seen of Maxer he is class so I'm not suprised with this at all. Fair play to all involved

I'll start a new thread later today when my hangover had subsided
