Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

It cost that for non premium tickets and the premium tickets cost €6.70.The Trilogy is only playing in the Odeon in Coolock.

    Nolan:
Nolan does have a point, particularly at a time when recreating a top-tier movie watching environment at home is within financial reach for many. And he points a finger toward smaller theaters and their tendency to show Blu-rays on the big screen. “One of the terrible things happening with independent distribution in the States is there is a level of Blu-Ray distribution that is going on,” Nolan said. “Theatre owners should be saying no to that. Exhibition shouldn’t work in such a way that you present the worse possible version of the film until someone in the audience complains. Exhibitors need to put their best foot forward and have standards. No cinema should be showing a consumer grade format to an audience. At least, they shouldn’t be doing it without saying to the public this is best we can get.”

    http://blogs.indiewire.com/theplaylist/christopher-nolan-praises-70mm-release-of-the-hateful-eight-warns-cinemas-are-becoming-an-empty-room-with-a-tv-in-it-20151012

Of course, when it comes to classic screenings, even DCPs can’t be trusted since distributors have been known to just slap the Blu-ray encode on them.

Why bother playing 2 of them in the other cinemas, why not the 3?

Coolock is miles away, from me that is :(

Yeah, Cineworld sounds the better choice as the other screens this is showing on are quite small.

Much prefer a midnight ending as opposed to a 1am one also.

Last time I seen BTTF II in the cinema, was in the Adelphi.

A full house for Brief Encounter at Lighthouse this afternoon... Brought my teenage daughter and her pal - whenever I can, I like to show em that a movie doesn't need to have vampires or werewolves or vampires AND werewolves to be entertaining... They loved it!

Great cinema experience, I love these Classic screenings...

It isn't a patch on the 18 hour Directors Cut.

Was my first time too. I had planned to watch it about a month or so ago when I just happened to notice that it was to be shown at the Lighthouse, some kind soul posted it here. So I held off to see it for the first time on the big screen. Very enjoyable movie.

Just noticed The Decline of Western Civilization Part II: The Metal Years is being shown tonight in the Lighthouse.

Scrooged on the same time though. Gremlins on at 5:30 today also.

Went to die hard last night with a friend. Better then 95% of the movies we have seen in the last few years. Even though I had seen it millions of times it felt like a completely different level of enjoyable movie.

Will definitely try and get to more of these golden oldies at the lighthouse.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,141 ✭✭✭Santi101

Yeah, went to Die Hard during the week. Fantastic, even better than I remember tbh.

Lighthouse is hands down the best cinema in Dublin.

Well that was an experience. Like a Netflix binge watch with 40 or so strangers that happened to be an obscure 1970s French film. :P

Is nowhere showing Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back And Jedi?

I know there was a Secret cinema screening a few months back of Empire but I just assumed they'd be shown on the run up to the release of The Force Awakens.

I'll more than likely watch them myself at home but I'd have preferred even a DVD screening in some cinema.. bit of atmosphere on the run up.

Own all of them across multiple formats. Will likely stil go to all of these screenings assuming the times are suitable. Shame Heat isn't being shown :(

Also wonder which edit of OUATIA is being shown. It says "recently restored Director's Cut" on the website but there's so many at this stage I've lost count!

Well it's billed as "De Niro vs Pacino Season - Round 1" so you'd never know, if we get a round 2 Heat would have to be in there i'd imagine.

For Once Upon a Time, i'm guessing it'll be the 2012 251 minute edit?

That's what I'd supspect alright but I hand it in my head there was a 268 min version shown somewhere in the last couple of years. Could be mistaken on that but have a vague recollection of reading it somewhere.

Yeah i read that Scorsese was trying to help Leone's family secure the rights to a further 25 odd minutes of footage(on top of the 2012 251min version), don't know if it's ever been screened anywhere though.

A new user who can't post links asked me to post this for them. We don't generally allow surveys here and we won't be making a habit of this, but I thought this one might be of interest:

Hi everyone I work at a cinema in dublin and I am currently trying to get older films to start being shown on a weekly basis.

I have made up a quick survey and I would appreciate it if yous could fill it out the more feedback the more likely it could happen.

I think it would be great to have films like alien, star wars, die hard.. Ect playing on the big screen again.

So fill out the survey and suggest your favorite films you'd like to see I'd love to hear them thanks everyone.

It should be noted that Disney/Lucasfilm generally don't allow public screenings of Star Wars as the Grand Social discovered last year.
