Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Over the moon you found Charlie, as a previous owner of a labrador I could feel your pain, watched the thread every day hoping that I would read news of him being found, it grew less and less likely and then this evening I checked my email and there it was! :) Cherish him now and I hope you never lose him again..

it's weird he never got picked up by the dog warden. i've just spent the last couple of weeks getting weight back onto an emaciated boxer bitch and i found a cup of puppy meal 3/4 times a day, mixed with either 2 scrambled eggs or tuna in sunflower oil really worked at filling her out

Thrilled for you! Like many other been following this without posting - and every day putting myself in your shoes and just feeling sick!
When I was a child the dog at home was missing for 3 or 4 whole days in horribly icy, snowy conditions. He was a terrible ramber and was often missing for a few hours - but this time he didn't come back and didn't come back and every evening I'd race out from school to my father to see if he was home - I still remember trying to run on the iced over path to get to the car as fast as possible. He was a collie and was always thin, so he wouldn't have much to survive on. He turned up late one night - can still remember my father calling me out to him. He was thinner than ever, but not starving thin.
Many, many months later I discovered a neighbour had brought him in and minded him for those days and was on about how thin he was etc - I sat next to the daughter for sewing and it came up in conversation one evening. I was aggrieved that they thought the dog wasn't fed properly, but at least we knew where he'd been!
I bet someday you'll find more out too!
That particular dog continued to go on his little forays for the rest of his life, but never again for longer than an hour or two.
And he's probably the reason I lose my own reason if either of my current 2 are out of sight for very long!!
    Enjoy!!

Charlie is one lucky dog, to have an owner who didn't give up hope and tried everything to get her beloved dog back. It must be like winning the lottery (only better):).

So pleased for you and Charlie! That's the best news, good on you for not giving up looking for him hopefully others who have lost their pets will see this thread and know that there's hope.

If not already make sure he has an id tag (a largeish one that's easy to read) on his coller just in casey, identitag are a great site and that he's microchipped (if not already).

So pleased he's home with you tucking in to some nice food and cosied up by the fire.

    I totally agree with you.

This is my forum of choice on boards but I don't post much as I am nowt but a humble dog servant of three years and not much of an expert.

Most people come here looking for advice and there are loads of people here to help.

However, this thread is a different story altogether and I feel like a bit of a stalker because I have posted on it so much. I just couldn't get Charlie out of my head and I hoped every day for the post saying he was home. I was delighted when it finally came.

It was a lovely thing to see though, everyone was willing him home and being positive and supportive to the OP.

So glad for the happy ending.

    :D

congratulations on getting your dog back!!

I was curious about the place where he was found, how far away was it from your house? I always thought that dogs and cats can usually find their way back home.
