Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Does anyone know how far were they into the exam before this happened? I'd be well pissed if I was more than 1/2 way in and found I had to do it all again. Once is bad enough.

Not sure really but having exams at 4 on the friday before Christmas is a bit of a joke anyway.

Same. My time atm is 2% - Study and 98% - Anything but study

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,596 ✭✭✭✭siblers

Half an hour here and another half an hour there. Damn java is painful to study, could spend an hour trying to get an answer online for something that is worth 2 marks.

Wireless and Security 149 pages. From the looks of the past papers there's only 2 or 3 same type questions for VOIP. For example issues to be resolved, discuss the protocols (RTCP,H245,etc) and compare and contrast SIP/H323. Personality, I wouldn't touch wireless. Although L10+11 are pretty painful too :)

Yeah I,m leaning the same way, lesser of 2 evils

I don't see anything in the notes to answer the question to outline what you would do to incorporate VOIP into a LAN environment or am I missing it somewhere? I know about the issues to be resolved such as QOS,Security,Interoperability,Scalabilty. Will that also answer the question?

That probably does it there is also a VOICE VLAN type but it's barely mentioned

what have you guys been studying in relation to Threads for java? If she asks us about code i'm not really sure what i'll need to know?

That they implement runnable and have a run( ) method , know synchronized and a few bits about threads sleeping but there is not much code to ask

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,244 ✭✭✭AntiRip

I might skip threads altogether. Full question on LinkedList, binary search tree and graphs hopefully. Only problem would be if threads was to be half a question but maybe unlikely as it doesn't fit in with any of the other data structures. It was really done quickly at the end. We didn't even get to do a lab class in it, like 5 mins from the end of class.

The synchronization was covered a couple of times, may be asked if two threads were running why an inaccurate value may be displayed. She had trouble explaining that herself :). All we did was the bouncing ball and no previous questions to reference really.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,596 ✭✭✭✭siblers

I have it my head that graphs and threads will be put together. Definitly marks to be gained from graphs just threads is going to be a wildcard. I'm also pretty drunk :D

Why cant these things be 100% CA instead of these glorified ****ing memory tests. Examine what you can do, not what you can remember. Sigh

Edit: I'm tired, grouchy and seem to have lost the lost the ability to give **** any more. Perhaps sleep may help.

Exactly, most people had really good CA marks going into our final exams (apart from java ) and all that hard work is undone by 2 hours where any numerous things can go wrong. My average is going to take an awful nosedive despite having really high CA marks. I've finished exams and on the drive home i've had answers pop straight into my head that I couldn't remember earlier in the exam. Nonsense really.

Have ye started placement already? jez, I'm still on holidays :D:p

There is a ball of links here that might help - http://stackoverflow.com/a/5511507 - there will never be one comprehensive tutorial, you will probably end up mix and matching.

Also quick question, how is the work placement blog meant to work, wordpress is it? kinda missed that lecture

Yes a wordpress blog .. we got emailed a list of supervisors also and you should have gotten an email with details about the blog and a few other documents.

    Thanks for the link.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,760 ✭✭✭✭Encrypted Pigeon

Got an email alright but wasnt too specific on the blog part. So thought it was something that was covered in a lecturer. So Ill just set up a private wordpress.com site so?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,596 ✭✭✭✭siblers

Your supervisor has to have access to it to be able to view it each week so I guess you must make it public? Not really sure.

Exactly a private blog that only you and supervisor access , agree a day/time for weekly posts to be submitted by. You should have got an earlier email with links to details of content etc.

Here are the important parts for you

Please make sure you read through the following links. There are some important dates to remember. First up is the work placement plan - http://workplacement.ittdmc.net/semester-2/work-plan/

http://workplacement.ittdmc.net/semester-2/weekly-online-report/ - contains details on what to include in your blog.
SwDv and Games - yours will differ here in that you will be including code snippets. The digital content only refers to the MM side.

Please make sure you password protect the blog and always clear it with your employer if you are adding sensitive information.

Only your supervisor will be reviewing them. The blogs allow your supervisor to see that you are getting the required experience and will help you to write your report at the end of the placement.

You are expected to act in a professional manner at all times. If you encounter problems during your work placement please contact your academic supervisor or myself.

Your academic supervisors will be allocated shortly. Again, make sure you password protect and do not put any company private information on the blog.

How do you set it up so that only your supervisor can access it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,760 ✭✭✭✭Encrypted Pigeon

If you can get to your dashboard (god I ****ing hate wp) go to settings > reading and set "I would like my site to be private, visible only to users I choose". Below that once done (refreshed) there should be a button to "Invite viewers to your blog". Just be careful with the permissions, best to probably setup a dummy a/c to see if it works.

I think you can do private posts instead (if you want to mix public/private??? ) but hardly worth the hassle, this thing will be thrown away once done anyway id say.

open dashboard go to settings and then reading and make blog private , then either go to users and invite your supervisor as a visitor or else send them the address of your blog and your username and password

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,596 ✭✭✭✭siblers

My supervisor didn't want anything private, actually he didn't even understand what I was talking about so I left my blog open.
