Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Registering a pleasure craft

    Anyone went trough the process of registering a pleasure craft in Ireland since 2014 when the ISA had to cease their registration? Basicly there is no small craft registration in Ireland (the government promised a solution by 2015, but that never happened). You have to register your boat in the full registery, requirments are for example: original building cert, all the bill of sales since the first etc. No examption of proof of VAT payment despite of EU rules...?

    It's because the DTTAS said they stepped beyond their mandate when they set it up without permission.

    Watereways Ireland have a registation process and this can stand up for legitimate transactions of small craft within the Irish waterways extending to near coastal.

    Also SI 921 of 2005 has the regs on pleasure craft ownership responsibilities

    You should also consult the local port authority of where your vessel is kept on their own registration policies and procedures

    This is all true, but it has very little to do with the registration of a yacht, intend to enter a non-EU port under Irish flag.

    Again for a pleasure boat that shouldn't be too much of an issue, the legislation only comes into mind when the vessel would be or could be commercially viable and then your talking commercial registration, loadline regulations, passenger ship safety certificates etc.
    I know the UK refers that the boat be registered with the port Authority to which it is primarily moored in. Same applies here only it may not be as stringently enforced as in a legal registration of ownership way?
    The ideas of ISA or RYA registration is principally so anyone who is club affiliated can use other clubs facilities under the mutual agreements of the ISAF, along with competitive racing handicap measuring etc. If a team or boat were to tour to different regattas.
